And now, we honor the evil clone himself, the bastard son of Goliath, Anton Sevarius and David Xanatos: Thailog. But which daddy does he take after more? Hee hee, Thailog has three daddies.
Just being an evil clone of Goliath who's smarter than him is scary enough, but he also shacks up with Goliath's ex, makes bedroom eyes at his daughter, and creates a sex slave from the DNA of two women he loved. Thailog is one of those nostalgic villains that becomes even creepier upon revisiting the show as an adult.
Who's the 2nd woman he loves I thought he had eyes for Demona plus Thailog doesn't really love anyone. I can see him becoming infatuated with Elisa because when she told Goliath how he shouldn't take his anger out on him. Thailog sees that someone did show some compassion towards him someone who didn't manipulate or use him.
@@catspaw3092 I was referring to two women Goliath loved, not Thailog. Demona and Elisa. The fact that Delilah is a subservient clone of both of them combined is both a twisted sight for Goliath to behold and an interesting insight into Thailog and how he feels about Demona and Elisa.
+TheAdorkableRJ What do you mean by creates a sex slave from the DNA of two women he loved? It's a kids show, but for little older one's, Elisa says oh my gosh, not god and I don't think Thailog had sex with Goliath's Angel of the Night, because he seemed to be a half cyborg now and lost his malehood I think it's called and has no sex I guess, it's twisting to show Demona being into Goliath's clone and it's like incest of Goliath's clone son to do that right, but no kissing at all?
"They grew him from a piece of you, like a cutting from a plant", that's got to be the most efficient and effective way of explaining clones. 3 seconds
I know. On 2 levels of “fuck you.” First is the fact that she’s a mix of Demona and Elisa, twisted kind of love and created her to be obedient. 2nd is that it’s Gargoyle DNA mixed with Human DNA, we all know how much Demona HATES Humans.
“You mean that creature is still out there; it has the money, it's as powerful as Goliath… and it's smarter than you?” “Owen... I think I’ve created a monster.” You know you’re bad when *Xanatos* of all people outright admits that _he fucked up_ when he created you.
Xanatos is pretty much the Lex Luthor of NY until Goliath saved his son from being taken from him & his wife Fox only then did Xanatos change for the better.
I know they say he’s smarter than Xanatos, but I’m not sure I really believe it. Thailog was clever, sure, but I’m not sure his feats of wit really match David Xanatos.
"Maybe on your terms, not mine. Did you really expect me to spend my life being your stooge and the doctor's private guinea pig? You two did not go through all of this trouble just to raise a fool." Love that line.
Indeed and in a way the day she lost another piece of hers. She thought she could finally be with "her love" and when she couldn't have the original she thought she could with his clone (whom she considered sharing the same goal as her) but she realized one more time that her hopes were in vain. "Her love" was just a scoundrel who used her, once again the "same human" took her place and her own daughter rejected her in anger like Goliath had done before. I think that was indeed the last stroke to her series of misfortunes and misery half of it she brought upon herself and the other half was fate itself! The more I watched the show the more Demona climbed at being my favorite character or at least one of the favorites!
katerinaaqu Don’t forget after this altercation there were a few other times she showed up, The last one being a ruse with a hired gun pretending to be hurt to get in close with Goliath and win the plan went pear-shaped (as it always does) her daughter completely rejected her and the last thing the show of her is you’re crying because she realize just what she has lost.
Honestly, I get kind of annoyed whenever they pull the "Oh no, Demona is going to die!" crap like they did here. She's immortal. You know this. It's been brought up DOZENS of times before. She could grab Thailog and jump into a volcano with him and be fine as long as MacBeth didn't push her.
@@katerinaaqu The sad irony was that the real Goliath actually loved Demona and was willing to work things out with her if only for the sake of their daughter while Thailog never actually cared for her. Demona fell for Thailog because he was what she wanted Goliath to be.
@@Elly3981 Yes and no. What I got was that his affection for her was of course real but when they woke up and saw how filled with hatred she was, he took a step back from her. He even commented that she had changed. I believe this was the final stroke for Demona, the people whom she hoped would understand her (or better she hoped that now they shared her hatred because of what had happened) felt questionable or hostile against her and that drove her insane indeed. Well with Angela Goliath for a while was not willing to "work things out" because of his Gargoyle culture. Angela was not just his child with Demona but everyone's child. As he grew more and more affectionate towards his daughter he did hope that Demona would put some of her hatred aside for the sakes of their daughter but I doubt that at that point he would be willing to work things out with her. They both knew that whatever existed between them was lost in the course of time. At least that is what I got from the show. I remember reading somewhere that Greg Weisman had indeed thought the possibility of Goliath making some sort of truce with Demona for the sakes of their daughter but never to actually be one thing again. But yeah with Thailog it was clear that she fell for him because he had Goliath's shape but she believed that Thailog was exactly what she wanted Goliath to be. Unfortunately for her though Thailog was way beyond her expectations to that
I think every voice actor enjoys playing their character's evil twin (or good twin in some rare cases) cause it allows them to take the character they've played and twist it in a new way, it's interesting to say the least
Hearing Ketih David voice a bad guy is impressive. He's usually playing honorable types like Goliath and Halo's Arbiter, but as a villain voice, he's surprisingly charismatic.
His interpretation os Spawn is also absolutely killer. Specially when the character is dealing with scumbags. You can just FEEL the joy Keith David is having in the voice acting!
Thailog is basically a sociopath, which is really surprising given he's a Disney cartoon villain from the 1990s. I mean, Megatron was pretty evil in his own right, but he had a cause and an ideology driving a lot of what he did, and he was constantly making overtures to Optimus Prime to join him. Thailog uses and manipulates everyone around him and doesn't care who he hurts as long as he ends up on top- in many ways he out Xanatoses David Xanatos himself (who at least loves, in his singular way, Fox, as well as his son).
Thailog was intended to be the antagonist and rival to Goliath and the other gargoyles in season 3 after Xanatos makes peace with them and becomes their benefactor. Malicious and cruel just for the sake of being so, Thailog is more dangerous than Xanatos ever was because there are lines even the latter won't cross.
@@Elly3981 So true. Xanatos, while a bit of a sociopath, at least realizes that people around him do have some value, even if he almost always prioritizes himself above all others (it would have been interesting to see if this continued in that third season that never happened); he had a father who by all signs loved him. Thailog is a sadist and a monster who has never known love; Xanatos just has little use for it.
@@Elly3981 The power and skill of Goliath, a mind to match Xanatos's own, and a complete lack of a conscience. Xanatos is absolutely right to fear Thailog.

@@tkbnguyen If I'm not mistaken, Lexington was based on Lexington Avenue in New York. Broadway is also the longest(?) street in New York rather than a borough. There's also Bronx that's the gargoyle dog. It's all New York vs California.
I love Thailog because of how he administers karmic manipulation towards those like David Xanatos, Sevarius, and Demona who themselves manipulate people for their own selfish ends. He's incarnate punishment towards the arrogant and haughty, and a reflection of their own tactics.
***** Xanatos is part of the trickster archetype. Thailog is part of the bastard archetype. I don't think Thailog and Hobgoblin have much in common. I don't recall Hobgoblin punishing anyone.
Not saying there isn't any overlap... but Thailog is, in a way, defined by his relationship with his three fathers and his desire to be their superior. That's the bastard archetype. His mating with Demona, creating Delilah (who is a combo of Demona and Elisa) also adds an Oedipal element, again... bastard.
GregXB3 So how he tricks Demona and those around him into doing his dirty work would still place him under the bastard archetype as opposed to being a trickster?
Lots of characters trick other characters. It doesn't make them archetypal tricksters. Phaeton on ExoSquad manipulated the Exo-Fleet into leaving Earth vulnerable so he could conquer it, that doesn't make him an archetypal trickster. Demona tricked Xanatos into allowing her to turn everyone in Manhattan to stone. That does not make her a trickster. Her archetype is largely the fury. Xanatos's archetype is the trickster... a human trickster like Odysseus. Thailog's archetype is not the trickster, it's the bastard.
7:55 Demona really cares Angela, and she admits Angela is she and Goliath's daughter. Even though she turns into evil, she still wants to protect someone. When Angela said she hated Demona, Demona really broke her heart. PS: Demona is a crazy and amazing villain. Maybe Disney can make a new series about her story for 1000 years.
Yeah, so? She gets no sympathy from me. I don’t blame Angela for calling the bitch out as Demona had been stringing her along just to manipulate her own daughter to her side. What made me respect Angela more was that she doesn’t accept Demona’s flimsy excuses for what she’s done.
@@nekohybrid7610 Demona is a true Shakespearean character. Everything she does backfires on her and rather than admit her mistakes she constantly blames humans for her mistakes thus continuing the cycle of revenge. She is her own worst enemy. I mean, it's saying something when her past self told her future self she didn't want to be her.
Thailog to me was a very underrated villain. In the episodes he appears in he always manages to tip the scales in his favor. He always managed to not be counted out and he always managed to bring the other villains down a peg. Really wished we saw more of him
Let's not forget that Demona cast a spell that turned all human beings into stone at night, and rampages through the streets blasting and smashing innocent people to bits.
I wouldn't say Demona is evil she's just fed up with thehumans treating her kind like garbage & in a way she's right about humanity even though not all humans are evil. Anything that's different from them they get either, angry, bitter, resentful or jealous or worse they want to destroy it to prove themselves the top dogs in the food chain. She showed that to Brooklyn but where she failed was to use a magic spell to control & enslave Goliath to do her bidding & see her way of thinking that's where she messed up. The only good thing in her life was meeting Angela & finding out she is her daughter Demona goes to great lengths to keep Angela safe even Goliath sees that.
Xanatos always thought he was the smartest guy in any room, that he'd planned for everything, that nothing was beyond his control. With that attitude it was inevitable that he'd overreach himself.
@@marcopineda9507 Gargoyle culture views childrearing as much more of a collectivist task, so there's not really any "one mother, one father." But Demona's isolation and trauma from having her clan destroyed might make her more prone to clinging onto Angela. Ex. Something she can love and consider hers. So, it's maternal, in a way, but also possessiveness.
@@EclecticallyEccentricThe gargoyles lay eggs and their eggs are randomly positioned in the rookery. When the eggs hatch no one knows who’s egg is who’s. So there is an ambiguity to parenthood amongst the gargoyles. Demona, by contrast, knows EXACTLY who her offspring is.
"In a _way,_ he's _almost_ your _son."_ 🤔 Pardon me for nitpicking your understanding of genetics, Elisa, but I would say it's _more_ accurate to call him Goliath's _brother._
GregXB3 But every time she supposedly died, they were still surprised to see her alive and well a few weeks later. Though, with Puck's "gift", there is the question of how she keeps healing herself after situations like this. Do her injuries vanish when she becomes human, or do they carry over?
Every time? Let's see. Awakening Part One, they thought she was massacred with the rest of the clan. Awakening Part Five, they thought she fell to her death. "The Reckoning", they thought she may have died in a fire but Goliath wasn't sure. Did she "fake die" in any other episodes. Survey says... no! Nice job exaggerating, thanks for playing
+ztslovebird I think part of the magic is due to her immortality, of course she feels pain but she can't really be hurt seriously unless MacBeth inflicts the damage to her since they are both connected. Overall Demona will heal cause of magic of her immortality, she does not need to turn into stone and I doubt if she sleeps even as a human. Demona is every much a child of Avalon with her magical abilities.
Imagine someone as smart as Littlefinger while being as strong as Gregor Clegane, and as proud as Tywin Lannister. Thailog puts most modern villains to shame.
@@shanehudson3995 Thailog wants them both dead. He wants Macbeth to die so Demona inherits his estate, and he wants Demona to die so that everything she owns passes to him.
What I just realized is Eliza acted as Goliath's voice of reason the same way Goliath acted as Demona. Both had flaring anger in their situations but someone was there to talk them through it. It just goes to show what happens when someone acts in unfiltered hatred
I loved seeing Thailog as a kid, still do. the dude is a combination of Goliath's power, the brains of Xanatos and the cunning of Sevarius. and when I saw his death, I was soooo mad and sad at the same time when I saw that episode for the first time
I actually like this. I never really realized how great Xanatos is, not just as a villain, but a character. He has moments like the one at the end that separate him from the whole simple "I'm the bad guy" trope
Xanatos was a great example of an antagonist. He had his own machinations which pit him against our heroes, but was never doing things for the sake of being evil. As the show went on we also saw he had layers and had actually grown through his relationship with Fox and repeated encounters with Goliath and Elisa's morals. He never became a patron saint, but he became a better person. If you consider hunters moon part 3 the canonical ending (as you should) he has quite the arc.
Had a roommate that walked by my room and being surprised I was girl into a show like Gargoyles, asked me what I dug about it. I then asked him if he was losing his hearing.
Sean Maguire The "kill the clones" episode was such a cop-out for The Goliath Chronicles. The comics took advantage of their story possibilities better.
Kherubhm Castaway and the Quarry Men COULD have been interesting if they had been handled well. I think there was a fanfiction suggesting that Castaway was the younger Kenmore brother, adopting a new persona with help from the Illuminati.
I always loved how their eyes would glow like for example the men gargoyles glow white, the female gargoyles like Demona would glow red. How do they switch the off or on? fascinating isn't it?
It's any strong negative emotion that makes their eyes glow...It's truly interesting how the females' eyes glow red while the males' glow white, and it even holds true for the "dogs".
Dude, I never saw their eyes glow when they're happy. Or sad. Not ANY STRONG EMOTION. Either anger, raging-fury... or when they first wake up in the evening...

The interesting quality about Thailog, is that he truly wanted a relationship with Goliath. (at least i think so). He wanted to share the 20 Million in the first Episode, and in his second, he wanted to share is Sanctuary. I'm open to discussion tho.
You're very true about that. However, Thailog never had a true parental influence to teach him the ways of right and wrong. The only ones who even bothered to teach him anything were practically psciopaths.
Yep, i would agree with that. Do you remember when he remarked in his first episode "I can hardly wait to see three of my proud fathers go up in a fiery blaze of smoke". two of which were Psychos.
What are you both talking about, Thailog didn't die. He's still alive, well, running Nightstone Unlimited, and plotting new schemes. I even showed as much at the end of the video.
"Time for me to be going. I've got plans of my own, and twenty million dollars to carry them through." "So how are you going to spend it? Stroll into a bank and open a checking account?" "I'll find a way to make it work for me. I set all this up, didn't I?"
So if he's Goliath's "son", and ican'trememberhername is the daughter of Goliath and Demona, that means Thailog considered banging his sister and daughter of his (former) lover. This incest makes me question the writers' browser history
You _do_ realize sociopathic shitheads will say something and act certain ways just to further mindfuck those present if it suits their purposes to do so right? I doubt he would actually go through with it though; rape doesn't seem to be in even _his_ tastes.
Couple things you forget, 1 He might not have known yet. 2 Gargoyles aren't human, given their regenerative abilities, maybe there was no need for them to evolve an instinct to shy from incest like we have. 3 Remember Goliath said that there is no concept of parents in Gargoyl society. All hatchlings belong to the entire clan. That means NO gargoyle has any clue who sired them. That means Demona and Goliath could be siblings. It's even possible some of The Manhattan clan minus Hudson could be potentially one of Demona's or Goliath's. We don't even know if their monogamous. Goliath is the Clan leader. He might have mating rights.
That's the one thing about Keith David's who voices Goliath and Thailog. When he does a villain you just love him even more but when he plays a hero it's awesome so far I haven't come across a character he has played that I did not dislike yet! Keyword yet.
7:21 Even Goliath's clone wants Elisa, though I'm very uncomfortable with how Delilah is programmed to obey him, that's very creepy. 4:34 is also very creepy they're related, and even if they weren't the way he said it so gross.
well less creepy and more like sad, he is so paranoid that he has to program people to obey him because he is so afraid of them turning their back on him or betraying him.
The Gargoyle was a bad ass. The funny thing is, his main objective is money, but he doesn't need money to survive, and he never mentions what he wants the money or what he plans to do it.
+Vector Vent I know Gargoyle operate under different laws of biology and cultural norms than humans, but Thailog checking out Angela, the daughter of his progenitor as well as momentary business etc. partner- EEWWWWWWW
+CRocketSlim yep, and he knows it. according to the man who man gargs they can smell who is sibling and not to stop siblings from breeding. I was on gargwiki and someone asked
CRocketSlim: To be fair, we don't know what delibrate tinkering was done to his DNA, nor do we know what random errors happened ( remember he's on borrowed time). He might be genetically different enough not to register as a close relative to her.
thailog is thailog, he is neither like goliath, xanatos, or sevarius, because he was secretly cheationg on demona, goliath would never cheat, xanatos would never cheat on fox, and sevarius unsure
*Michelle Lincoln* His affection for Eliza and his love/hate relationship with Demona was probably imprinted into Thailog's dna. Then it transitioned into a perverted need for a combination of both...
After 0:40 in the episode where Goliath meets Thailog is where my profile pic comes from. The first season of Gargoyles is truly amazing and I love how you can tell Keith David is enjoying playing Thailog
Thailog wanted to prove his worth to the three men created him. Xanatos by becoming more rich than him. The scientist by making Superior clones. And Goliath by taking those that he loved.

Smarta*s like him need to know basic one on one when facing an enemy NEVER create a clone!!! For two reasons... One: They maybe become smarter than their creator And very important number 2: It's like creating your own WORST enemy.
Xanatos never "turned good". He's on much better terms with the gargoyles, and invited them back to the castle, but he's still a manipulative schemer who will use them to his own ends. Just as we saw in the Greg Weisman-written comic books (that are the actual canonical third season, not the Chronicles).
Well yes, sorry my mistake. They had a third season where yes it was like an extra but still he is somewhat good now. But better than what he was before.
I'm honestly curious what his end game was with Thailog. What possible reason could Xanatos have for creating a creature like Thailog and educated him the way Xanatos did.

Just looking at Thailog creeps me out just seeing his red eyes and a voice like Goliath's he is what Goliath could be if Goliath allowed his dark side to take over.
