And now, we honor that fallen Guardian: Nerissa. An impressive villain in her own right. She kinda reminds me of another villain that Greg Weisman wrote. ;)
From what I understand, contributing factors were (eh hem) : competition a la winx club, lack of sales via merchandise, a bad first season (sadly Greg weisman couldn't fix that with the second), the original comic books also did not sell as well as they should have, aaaaand more than likely no one working on the show 1st or 2nd show seemed to have any understanding or familiarity with making a magical girl series. That last is much more a guess on my part tbh. And yes, I would apply it to weisman also. The 2nd season is great of course, its just having watched it I feel like the girls are more magical green lanterns with captain planet flare, as opposed to something similar to sailor moon. Although, I've never done an in depth comparison of the two, heck, not even sure how many magical girl tropes W. I. T. C. H even has. Anyway, thank you for reading this rant, if you got this far, please be careful there is a leprechaun with a shotgun behind you. 😉
@@yoemeuunitoful W.I.T.C.H. Is not a typical mahou shoujo anime and it was never intended to be. It’s not that cliché, it’s a lot darker and it’s sticking to one main storyline unlike most of those shows. That is what makes it unique and great
@@yzma9959 good point. Now that I think about it, the comic could get pretty dark at times... Albeit, I'm pretty sure it was in a more suspenseful way.
@ Holy crap! That would've been crazy! Heck the pony's have a similar thing with their elements of harmony, but emotions are way more fundamental. Daym... Food for thought, indeed.
My favourite episode with Nerissa is the one where she tempts Cassidy to want to live. She knew all the right buttons to push to get what she wanted like a true villain.
i don't really understand why Winx was more popular, Witch was a much better anime in my opinion... not some fancy barbie doll that need a upgrade every season to sell said dolls.
I think you answered your own question.... The dolls funded Winx Club, but the toy/merch sales weren't there for W.I.T.C.H. (Possibly because they didn't have toys? I don't remember seeing any anyways.... Shame really if they went the action figure route perhaps with some cool playsets and monster figures for them to fight things might have been differant....
@@giovannirafael5351 I have to admit that at first, i liked it. But that was too... sparkly, the girls were weird looking with their too long legs and their odd hourglass shape. But the real problem was that every season has the same theme: a new evil arise, the winx are overwhelmed by this evil, hear of a new, more powerful form of fairy, a quest follows to master this power, defeat evil and the cycle begins again. it quickly becomes tiring.
@@minnion2871W.I.T.C.H. had it's own share of toys (I owned a lot of the dolls back in the day). I also had Winx dolls. The W.I.T.C.H. dolls were made by Giochi Preziosi, the same doll company also made Winx dolls. Yet those Winx dolls were mostly sold in Italy. Winx had the advantage of getting dolls made by Mattel which was a way more popular and global toy brand. That's why W.I.T.C.H. didn't succeed in marketing and toys. I'm unsure in which parts of the world outside of Italy and Finland sold those dolls.

@@oscara8454 I vase saying that I'd be nice if we could go back in time before all this Bullshit. I mean RU-vid seriously become a daycare?
@ the bullshit has been around since before the early 2000s. I remember some slasher movie where Santa was the killer was protested by stupid boomers in the 80s. The apex of "why won't anyone think of the children." I know sjw are terrible but they by no means invented censorship. This clip wouldn't even rile them up.
@ "This is what happens when *freedom of speech* is implored" I assumed "implored" was a typo. When talking about something ignoring freedom of speech it is called censorship.
To me when comparing the animated W.I.T.C.H to the comic (yes it is a comic or YA not a manga) I feel the animated version did more for the characters and side characters than the comic and actually flesh out a bit more in terms for the villains and heroes.
this was my whole childhood! i‘ve always had a huge crush on caleb and nerissa was such a badass villain. i‘m 21 now but if there‘s ever going to be a revival or season 3 i‘m so up for this :)
what I like about second season ending is Cassidy not turning back to a ghost despite all the other old Guardians and Yan Lin clone turned old again best Nerissa's line in this video: tell me the truth do you find me attractive?
It sucks that Nerissa lost to a someone like Phobos who In my opinion was kind of a boring villain. Its a shame W.I.T.C.H only lasted 2 seasons because I really liked it and they pretty much left it open at the end of season 2. I guess its just the way it is, the good shows with potential get cancelled and we get left with the dreams of what could have been while crappy more "popular" shows endure.
I don't think that's right the others had some kind of thing happen to them to show us that they were turning so maybe her turning to stone is to show us she was fully in Narissa's control
You know what I've always wondered? Why did the Heart of Kandrakar - that Nerissa first possessed and was then given to Cassidy - look like the Heart of Meridian?
I think that's what the Heart of Kandrakar looked like in Nerissa's hands when she became the leader of the guardians. And then she made the Heart of Meridian jewel to look like her previous heart for nostalgia?? Or it could be an animation error.
I know your comment is 1 year old, but i will answer your question if you still happen to wonder. The reason why Nerissa looks older is because she constantly uses her old Guardian power, and because she is no Guardian anymore, the power she uses takes her lifeforce, making her older and older every time she uses her power
The Krillmaster Yeah looking at the clips towards the end of the video, I agree with you. Old Nerissa didn't yell when things didn't go her way, rather she was constantly calm and collected. And wasn't arrogant. In fact Young Nerissa had no reason to yell when things went wrong, she could have just used her power to subjugate people.
Axel that's the thing, she couldn't subjugate people like she used to because of her arrogance, which is ironic because thats the exact same way she possessed kadma, kadma was arrogant and that was key for nerissa to take her over, younger nerissa may be more powerfull but if she was to battle her old self she would lose simply because the old one would outsmart her just like phobos did when he turned into napolion.
That's one hell of a villain here no need for sad backstories you just someone unforgivably evil and ill intented to actually make it entertaining to watch
But they killed a lot of the momentum Nerissa had as a villain with the Phobbos crap. They pulled a Highjacked by Ganon right out of their ass in the end when it really should of failed in order to reinforce Nerissa's power and inteligence.
I know its 10 years old but okay. The whole point of that is to show that nerissa threw away her cunning ways for power. She got power crazy and became exactly like kadma . Believing no power no matter how awesome is beyond her control. And it became her downfall.
I really never liked how her powers were never fully explained. She had so many powers that were beyond those of an ordinary guardian. Feeding elyon false memories, casting spells and incantations, mind control and resurrecting cassidy? WTF!
I think in the comics they mentioned that Guardians can perform magic like a witch/magician,but it's never actually utilized by any of them. They solely focus on their element. Nerissa on the other hand, as a Guardian could learn magic (as mentioned). While posing as the Mage she had all the time+spellbooks to dig into other aspects of her powers, that didn't revolve around her element/transformation, but her potential in general. As for the resurrection of Cassidy it's quite simple. Quintessence (the 5th element) is life energy in the form of electricity. So she can kill/bring spirits back. But to give them fless she must have a power source (a Heart). She could've revived Cassidy in "M is for Mercy", but that would've drained a lot of the Heart's power and would've left her a few days/weeks out of her schedule to conquer the universe before the Heart was fully charged. Would've still won against the Guardians, but she most certainly wouldn't be able to do the whole "glamour spells to trick the Council, feeding Halinor's fear into Tridart long-distance, later infiltrating Zamballa and confronting Kadma".
I "love" the logic here. She was beating them 5vs1 without a heart and was letting them live for plot purposes. Then was equal to them while she got MORE power from 1 heart.Once she got 2 freaking hearts and her old friends as an army she was losing to them.In the end she got beaten while having 2 hearts and being a quinto-guardian(controller of all 5 elements)by Phobos, even though the powers of the Heart of Meridian (Ellyon) were given to her willingly so they shouldn't have been taken away...like why does it matter that he's an heir?....Makes me wonder how more power makes you weaker (and yes I know that she was more arrogant each time she got a boost, but still....she should've been able to one-shot them in her quinto-guardian form;if not while having 2 hearts but still only Quintessence...she almost one-shoted them in O is for Obedience while having 1 heart)...Anyway,it still remains my favourite series throughout the years, but I have some unanswered questions that will probably remain like that forever. ❤W.i.t.c.h. power💧🔥🌱💨⚡
well you make a decent point but one thing to note is that they were relatively inexperienced at the start of the second season she pushed them to evolve more than the first season, she may have also left them alive so that more competent guardians don't take their place until she could take it. Lastly, perhaps the heart of kandrekar was more powerful than the other ones seeing as it was meant to protect all the balance between worlds.
@@dejanlaurent3075 As logical as your last sentence sounds,I can't help but think that they're all equal in terms of power, though not in abilities. For example the Heart of Zamballa alone can grant you geokinetic abilities (much like the Element of Earth),while the Heart of Kandrakar alone can not,and would require your connection to the auramere of Earth.Another example is the Heart of Meridian that can control all elements (at a lesser extent than a Guardian, since they focus on other ma magical abilities as well and not just elemental ones)where the Heart of Kandrakar again requires a connection to the aurameres.Although now both the hearts of Meridian and Kandrakar can create portals, having an extra skill than the rest. Also I think that it seems as the strongest heart because of two reasons: a)It's the main heart in both comics and series,so it's natural to consider it more important as we explore the story of the girls revolving around this specific heart and it's powers b)Everyone wants it both because a heart is an infinite supply of magical energy and it's the closest heart they can get. They cause trouble, the girls fight them, they are close to each other and so they want to get this one first,as it's faster to achieve it and not powerwise superior to the others.
Something else to consider is that a hearts magic is more effective on its home world quite literally home turf adventage Cornelia demonstrated significant power even at the start of the season. Not too mention her sister.
@@dejanlaurent3075 That's a fact!👌 Also Cornelia was the only one doing damage to the enemies. The others where more effective for crowd control like typical mages or supports, which is sad, considering how much I love them all👄❤ and how each element has so spectacular and unique features(my love for Will is lesser than the rest😂 oop-).

yes, but if she knew what a brat he would she could have been thinking years in advance or she just a one night stand and was being overly smart about it...he was the first heir to the throne.
Actually she's in her late 50s if not early 60s. All the former Guardians were around the same age as the current ones when they got their powers approximately 40 years ago. So early-mid teens (12-17+a few years as Guardians+40 years of being disbanded). She just looks undead and way older than her previous team members because all those 40 years of being independent and not in the group, she was severed of her connection to an auramere, and any magic she used drained her life force. And we know she posed as the Mage+used magic for about 17 years. 4 years later she adopted a new persona, that of Trill and for the remaining 13 years she worked douple glamour spells (Mage, Trill) and would probably teletransport and have other spells active.
It came before Winx Club, so the opposite could be said only if we were to compare the 2 different shows. That Winx is the brighter/more glittery form or W.i.t.c.h.
@ForceInsanity22 I wouldnt go as far as to hate humanity because after all there is always some good out there.
