"Are you enjoying the music" YES!!!!!! The most important question! Thank you for asking it. PS: Really appreciate all you do. I trust your ears, and you've led me to some great headphones. I hope you won't be completely MIA from the internet during your hiatus.
Thanks again everyone for understanding. No ads on this video on purpose. Please watch the entire video. Recommended channels are in the description. Where I live now: twitter.com/metal571 GitHub of EQ profiles: github.com/metal571/metal571-eq
Metal pleease give us all the eq settings hehe. Dang I'm gonna miss your reviews because really who else is not biased, gives reviews with preparation, uses actual reasoning?
@@metal571 You absolutely do though. You're not Tyll, but ultimately we came here for Metal, not Tyll. You will be missed in your own right, not only as a detailed reviewer, but as a person. Your reviews helped quite a bit and though I'll check out the channels you mentioned and keep up with your other social media, there will be a Metal571 shaped hole in all of our subscriptions. Thanks for everything.
Of all the audio reviewers that exist, only a rarefied few reach the point where the quality of their work and their contribution to the hobby can be reasonably compared to what Tyll has done for the community. We're losing legends left and right...we'll miss you metal!
Woke up to find my sub count bumped considerably and was happy and surprised. I saw why when I saw this video and was sad again. Thanks for the shoutout and thanks for the years of entertainment, insight, education and inspiration. There are some wise words in this video, ultimately this hobby is about the music and if you enjoy the music on your headphones then your headphones are the right headphones for you. A reviewers job is to evaluate and compare and give opinions so that others can make the right decision with their hard-earned money to find that product that works for them. Sadly there are some who see any criticism as an attack or any praise as shilling. But that's on them and not you. Needing a break is understandable, I hope your hiatus isn't permanent though, you'll be missed. If/when you come back in whatever format you decide to go forward with, we'll be there. Don't be a stranger on Twitter.
Metal is the most talented headphone reviewer I have ever known, and a rare and genuinely kind, generous and overall great human being. You have carried forward and elevated this hobby to great places with your amazing talent for critical listening and your gift for making an extraordinarily complex task look easy: masterfully translating your headphone audio experience into words. Can’t say I am not saddened to hear you will no longer be doing reviews but really respect your decision. Thank you for all you have done for the hobby and for being such an incredible inspiration. I am going to miss you and your reviews a lot my friend!
I had just the same feelings a couple months ago when I sold all my high end audio gear (Stax L700, Andromeda iems, amps, etc..) after being invested in the hobby for some time. I just remembered myself as a kid and having a blast listening to my favorite bands with crappy headphones. I realized that you do not need high end audio gear to really enjoy the music you love. What makes you happy is what you listen, not how or with what you listen.
Don't blame your for getting out of it for the most part, it is a toxic environment at the moment I agree. Hopefully that will pass but who knows? Social media is making everyone insane. Thanks for all your videos, I always found you to be the most informative reviewer. Thanks for talking a lot about upper mids all the time as that often gets left out from reviews! Good luck and hope you can go back to just enjoying the hobby again!
I remember back years ago when I subscribed to your channel, one of the reasons was that you had a very unbiased and analytical way of making your reviews while simultaneously sharing all your hard-earned knowledge. And you could see that you had fun making these videos because I know you would have done all the listening and testing regardless whether you were planning to make a video or not. But if the format isn't working for you anymore, change it up! It is your channel and you should make videos because you want to and not because somebody else forces you to. So, regardless where your journey takes you, I'll be watching because I know it’s going to be interesting :) Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!
Thank you so much. Not only have your reviews helped me buy the best headphones for me and saved me time and money, but you have also answered every one of my specific questions in the comments! Truly an incredible reviewer Edit: an incredible reviewer and person
Whatever makes you feel good, That's all that matters. You've been a great help finding the sound signature of my preference which pretty much made me move on from this hobby. Thanks for all the hard work you've done for the community.
Thank you for your contribution to the headphone community! I've really enjoyed hearing your thoughts/waiting to hear your thoughts on various headphones. I'm not sure if this is something you may be interested in in the future, but it'd be neat if you were to start a blog of sorts.
I always admired your objectivity and genuineness. Thank you for your contribution to our audio hobby. Enjoy your holidays and I hope the best for your future. :)
Thanks so much for being so objective and so goddamn honest. You've made me think of a realistic approach to audio! Can't wait to see what you do next outiside of audio!
I'm such a late arrival to your channel. Have played music for decades and only just decided to buy decent reference headphones. Within not too long, I realised I find your reviews so god damn good that I go straight to your channel. Sorry the haters ruined it for you, haters are everywhere and, so, fk em. Love your insights! .. as do many.
Damn dude. Somehow I knew this was coming. You’ve been a big help to this community so thanks for your contributions. I’d like to see you come back and do something on the channel...Music reviews, the occasional headphone, who knows? Best of luck to you my friend!!
Aww, was hoping to see the Atticus owners perspective. Edit: How silly of me, I already own and adore the Atticus. You had a great run as a reviewer and I have learned a LOT from your content. Good luck on your endeavors, metal.
I only just started watching your reviews, and man I was missing out! You get what you want to get across with clarity and detail, without being overly complex. Sucks that you stopped uploading, but know you've atleast got one more person who's gonna go through your videos
Thank you for the great reviews, and all the help in finding what I was looking for in headphones. I get the reasons and the intoxication... and taking a break from all this is probably the best and healthiest thing for you to do. I respect you for not compromising and not selling out. I'll continue watching your "unformal" input :) Have fun!
Thanks for the reviews and everything you have done. I have also been guilty of being obsessed with the gear when it's the music that really counts. Good luck and hope I see you around!
Thanks again Metal for all the honest reviews you contributed to the hobby. You did in fact inspire to start reviewing and I am grateful for that. I also agree that the hobby is getting way too toxic and I admit that I have certainly taken place in some of this toxicity. We all need to chill out, it’s just Audio. I do also agree that it can be quite unfun making reviews sometimes. It seems that a large portion of the online headphone community is not okay with negative reviews of any kind. This is the sad reality of the hobby that people don’t like negative feedback of a product that they like. You have to remember that we as reviewers should not be giving purchase validation. We are here to present the product how we hear it be it good or bad. Sadly not every product ends up being good in our opinions and people need to accept that. Sadly most people cannot and releasing a review that is negative will always get you a lot of dislikes and hate on Reddit, Head-Fi, etc... But alas I will keep on reviewing and hopefully I can fill your shoes at least somewhat. Thanks again man, enjoy your retirement from reviewing.
A big problem is that we all get sucked into being toxic people when spending enough time around that negative energy the community seems to give off. It spreads easily and we're all guilty of it, but that shall never stop honest reviewers. Please don't stop making reviews, as your ability to evaluate audio is exemplary and rare. There's a reason I mentioned you first in the list of important channels for people to follow.
"It seems that a large portion of the online headphone community is not okay with negative reviews of any kind. This is the sad reality of the hobby that people don’t like negative feedback of a product that they like." See: any negative Grado review
Amen! Not all audiophiles fall into that toxicity camp. I appreciate you both and have loved your reviews. All I’ve ever asked of a reviewer is to be honest, and you both have that in spades. Much respect.
Thanks for the time you put into the channel, I was always entertained and learned a lot. The Max Settings PortaPro video has had me in tears on more than one occasion, comedy gold.
Damn I love this goddamn channel. I would love to see more reviews from you for sure. I know that audio is all about preference but reviewers who often compare headphones to others are undeniably helpful when evaluating a headphones. If someone says one headphone is brighter than the other, there is a good chance it's true. It might not necessarily mean that you will like/hate a headphone more, but it gives us a fair comparison in terms of frequency response, and the description of the soundstage/representation is always something that you can't really get from anyone but a reviewer who had firsthand experience. There are two reviewers in the community right now that I always watch and that's you and resolve reviews (now the headphone show). You two go into more detail in your reviews than anyone else in the community imo, and that's why I watch your reviews. I would love to see some Final Audio product reviews from you. I loved the D8000 when I got a chance to audition it. The Sonorous VI were also really good. I would love to see a review of a Sonorous X as well haha.
I feel like crying, I'll miss you and your reviews a lot! You've helped me a lot and have brought a lot to the community. See ya on Twitter an other Socials!
Ugh, that was a gut punch!!! First Mr. Hertsens, then you!!! Hmmm, that’s tough!!! Thanks for all that you’ve contributed to the audiophile community!!! I certainly appreciate your efforts!!! If it’s no longer fun for you and it feels more like work, then it’s best to venture into something new!!! Take care, happy holidays, and have a great new year!!! ☮️🖖🏽
I always appreciated your honest approach and insight. Your advice has been very helpful to me personally and the community in general. Good luck to your future endeavors and hope to hear from you again. Thanks for everything, bud!
thank you for your excellent output, will checkout your recommendations on reviewers,to be honest I don't know any of them.So I am very interested in them.Good luck with what ever you decided to do.
You helped me immensely when I was upgrading from my 'gaming headsets' and I guess that's true for alot of 'non-audiophile' dudes that were fishing for a good deal while improving their audio quality. Thanks alot, dude, take your time.
Thanks for all the hard work, and sharing your impressions with us and I’m glad to see you sharing impressions on Twitter. Lots of stuff to do in life and no reason for you to do anything that becomes grueling, just enjoy the hobby as you were before and when you like, share impressions with fellow headphone geeks. 🙌🏽
I really respect your opinion and reviews the most, best audio channel ou there in my opinion. I really hope you find the motivation to keep reviewing headphones in the future because people need your perspective because you are the only reviewer out here that talks about EQ. Best of luck :)
Mate we are gonna miss you dearly. How I ended up on your channel I don't know , but since then I have acquired a dozen of headphones mostly by your recommendation. You are a big inspiration to all of us!
Thanks to you i was able to find the sound and type of headphones i really enjoy. Without your'e reviews i would have had to buy and returned allot of headphones i would mostly have been disappointed with, saving me from allot of frustration. I really want thank you for that! I wouldn't want you to continue with these videos if you don't like the process of doing them any more. Do whats best for you!
Deepest respect to you for your honesty and input to the audio community - you will be missed but that isn't the important thing as you mentioned - if it's not fun then it's not worth doing, hell we have a job for that ;) Have a great Christmas and enjoy the break from FR - hopefully whatever you decide to do in future, it will result in some shared output we can enjoy. Peace out.
I bought a Senheisser hd599 few years back after listening to your review. I absolutely love it. Thank you! I’ll miss your reviews. Have a great time ahead.
Thank you for all your hard work over the years Metal. I saw a comment you made that said work was more fun than this at the moment. I completely understand that, been there as well, this is the right choice. I hope you share with us what is “fun” for you, be it cars, guitar playing, or travel. Just like Tyll, we are sad to see you go, but grateful for your work, and genuinely glad to know you will be happier because of it. All the best my friend!
Even though my videos are essentially shitposts, I want you to know that just having a decent reviewer putting out RU-vid videos was definitely inspiration to try my hand at making audiophile RU-vid content. Good luck with future endeavors man.
Love the videos dude, they're a fantastic resource for people getting into the hobby. Anything you post is greatly appreciated (even on reddit haha), so i can't say I'm not sad to hear you won't be posting videos for a while. Stay positive and keep having fun :)
Everything is better off RU-vid. I think it says it all that I am enjoying living on reddit and even Twitter of all things far more than reading any YT comments section regularly
Hey Metal, thanks for all your great review in the past, always found your channel great! Good luck in the future and whatever direction you choose to take
Thank you for all the wonderful videos! I've considered your perspectives and technical info highly reliable. Best wishes for success in whatever your do.
Got in to audio recently. I am so sad I missed the heyday of channel. I bought a pair of k371s based on your recommendation. Best of luck in your new ventures.
I'll just say this, no long ago I owned zero headphones; I now own five pairs, and it all started with me bumping into your channel, then into others, then always getting back to yours for a resolution. I like your down to earth style, it's trustable and enjoyable. I've watched more metal571 stuff than Netflix and surely learned a thing or two. Thanks and make sure you come back at least with a q&a from time to time. That hey't'supguysmetal571here has made the headphone world a better place I guess.
Thanks Metal! I've enjoyed your perspectives and have learned a lot from your videos. If you make non-formal videos post-hiatus down the road I'll be watching for them. Keep enjoying the music!
Totally get it as a consumer. Having spent $1ks over the years, I have reflected and am extracting from the community. I like the headphones I own and the music that passes though them. Thanks man, I enjoyed your reviews while we had them.
I am definitely going to miss your reviews and your calm voice Metal571. I understand what you are talking about and the burnout that the social media and the community brings. Happy break and happy listening.
I've known your channel Just recently and i've been watching almost all of your videos, and I liked them so much. Sorry for your decision but at the same time I can understand your state of mind. Hoping you might change your decision, have a Happy Christmas. ciao.
I think your review of akg k371 was highly valuable and important it possibly could change the closed headphone section forever. Definitely a landmark headphone. There will always be differences in opinions. I appreciate the content you have provided over the years I hope you do choose to continue when you feel ready. It just the nature of the internet that for every 100 people that love what you do you will always get a few that hate it. Ride your own wave stop worrying about what others think.
Hey man, I saw your HD 599 video which made me buy one and I even left an update on the video! Sad to see you lose motivation, I understand losing motivation and the need to take a break which is good. Hope to see you soon with whatever direction you decide to take the channel. It's never really over, just move on to something else that you find enjoyment in and are willing to share with us.
I like the live stream idea, maybe super chats, about reviewing headphones along with the audience. Tbh, I like watching you more than Zeos. He's entertaining, but when you talk about the technology in such a matter of fact way, I didn't get that anywhere else but from you. That's why I watch you both equally. But you do what YOU want and it will be better for your audience when you're into it. Thanks, I will check out these reviewers too. GL and Happy Holidays!
Hey man thanks! Bought several cans based on your feedback (I like a less-than-bright profile also). One of the most real people on RU-vid IMO within and beyond the audio community. Hope to see more content from you, and good luck!
I've been thinking about why I have enjoyed your reviews. What is different, unique, valuable about Metal571 in a sea of other reviewers?. I think it's your rare combination of experience, technical and verbal skills and honest humility. Usually with a reviewer, it's "pick one of the above", but the magic of Metal571 is that all of your experience and technical delivery is wrapped in approachable, honest humility. Expressing opinion without pride is super rare and And THAT combination is what I looked forward to in every Metal571 review. That said, I can understand to your choice to take a step back from formal reviews. When the things we want to do become the things we should/have to do it's hard to bring our heart to the effort. So, Metal, do what you love and share it if you want, I'll watch and listen and learn and smile with you, wherever and whenever that may be.
Have fun and always be yourself doing what you love. I'm a subscriber for some time, subbed on your recommendations and following you also on Twitter for almost a year. Be well, listen to great music and everything will keep on rolling as they should ;-) Greetings from Greece, Cheers!
Everything has been said already. I'm just happy to see this beautiful community altogether waving at one of his most recognizable face. I wish i could give everyone here a deserved highfive ✋ Until next time Metal!
i literally just watched your review on the 770 pro 80ohm from 2014 and subscribed right away just to come to your channel and see this :( i hope you are doing fine a year over stoping with youtube. Kinda unfortunate that you felt youtube wasnt working for you but don't feel bad about it, there are just so many youtubers on the subject it gets really competitive and hard to maintain a base community, it is clearly not your fault. Great job and hope you are doing great!
Thank you, Metal. I subscribed to your channel recently. Your videos calm me down from my other stuff. No regrets. Looking forward to whatever you want to show us next.
Your open-mindedness and balanced opinions with regards to audio are unique and refreshing. Thanks for all of your efforts helping people make more informed decisions :)
This is really helping me to not buy any more audio equipment. It's all just a money sink. I should just focus on finding more music that I really enjoy. I recently put a pair of KSC75Xs on a Parts Express headband with Yaxi pads, and I realize that I enjoy music on those just as much as with most of my other much more expensive headphones. Good luck with choosing the direction of the channel. I'm already following your Twitter, so I'll be watching for your decision.
Found this channel a bit too late, but still thank you, it was very helpful. I totally agree it's not worth continuing something that once was exciting but then starts to feel routine and even exhausting. We, humans, are always evolving, finding new ways to express ourselves. I hope you're enjoying whatever you are doing now.
Appreciate the honesty! You are a great reviewer but also a great youtuber! Could i get your top 3 headphones to buy considering all aspects? Nothing in particular just the best headphones for the price type of thing :)
Wow, that's a bummer. Your reviews are one of the best if not the best. All the detailed sound description that you "produce" that helps to imagine how the headphones sound is so helpful. I don't care what community says. There are trolls there and aggressive people. I always thought youtubers have to stop get involved in negative or rude comments, otherwise it will draw their energy. So many reviewers say only 2-3 sentences about sound and they call it done. I remember your Sennheiser 380 pro review, when you said something like midrange is somewhat (slightly) coloured or weird (I might be inacurate here with exactly what you said - something like this), and I instantly thought to myself - wow this is what I found as well but nobody else than you would mention that. And even if this was not truth: this is your opinion and your ears that subjectively hear sounds. Any review is only to help. Anyway, keep strong, I hope you will resume at some point. Thanks for everything.
Totally agree! I quit specifications and measurements! Then I started to love music again....now I just choose with the power of my ears and emotions!!!! my enjoyment level. I don’t care what the politics are and the stats! Sound joy is subjective and personal and what ticks my boxes are solely in line with my personal signature tastes ....I’ve learnt to be confident in my feelings about it and no one else’s! but you’ve been a massive navigational library of support and passion and honest reviewing! Not to mention your voice is gorgeousness 👍🏼
