Unfortunately I didn't get around to testing those but I do want to hear them. I still use my 770 a lot for work calls from home just because of the comfort, and still have my K371
@metal571 I see. Thanks for replying. Love the sound, but my AKG K371 pads are worn out so much that they are starting to fall off. That's why I was eyeing something more comfy and durable. By the way, since you still have your AKG K371, you must have replaced the pads. Which pads would you recommend?
I haven't because I don't use it all that much so they haven't worn out. OEM pads are always the best but as far as I know they are not available. I'd still ask AKG support just in case they can be bought, and remind Sean Olive on Twitter that we still need those pads to be widely available. Ridiculous that they aren't
I'm alright. Much better since returning only to my day job of a pro senior software engineer. Doing this on top of that was not giving me enough time to unwind
Great review, after all this years, do you think this headphone in 2024 this headphone is still relevant among the top? Is it still one of your favorites,? Personally I love it. Thank you!
It's my very late recent discovery and I am blown away with how good they perform! I bought them used for 💲20 changed ear pads for... leather (I know, not usual choice for open backs) random cushions I had left and to be honest I prefer them more then X2HR (too muddy with harsh 5,5kHz and no air) Actually I find their soundstage not bad at all comparing to HD560S (maybe because of pads) I am surprised that I enjoy listening to music on them more then other hp that are 3-4 times pricier. They kind of remind me of SHR440 wich to me are very underrated close backs. I treat them with Sonarworks ID and they (Shure) have enormous capacity of low bass reproduction when EQ properly. All the best for all hp geeks out there 🎧 🫠
It's a pitty you missed Sporta Pro, same family but huge difference in sound signature vs Porta Pro. I use to like Porta but they are very uncomfortable for me and I can't stand this 150Hz bump that goes to low midrange and makes sound muddy. Also they are very dark, not so much details in high frequencies, apart from 5,5 kHz not so welcome peak there is no upper treble at all. Anyway sometimes I like to watch your channel.
I know I definitely still want to try sporta pro and there's the KPH40 now as well. The Yaxi pads for these models help with the upper treble but they also introduce a bit more of that 5k peak too. You can see that on oratory1990's graphs
An added coiled cable and velour pads in addition to what the Studio comes with, plus different colorway. I have an Austrian made MK II right now and it otherwise sounds the same as the Studio
I just had comparison of SHP9500, AKG K371, and Sennheiser HD58X several weeks ago. SHP9500 is good value, but no comparison to the other 2, other than the sound stage. Upper-mid is recesesed, and with elevated upper-bass(almost 15db difference in FR chart), that resulted in a V-shaped preception(more high & bass than mid). K371 has the best timber, but I cannot stand the narrow sound stage. 58X is the most neutral, even, and sound stage is reasonably good to differentiate the details. Eventually I chose HD58X cuz I also used it for playing my synth, which cannot be EQ'd as the laptop can.
What Are you takling about,,,of the sennhezer 380 pro was freq hz wise all over the map,,why do many studio's use the. When mixing the sound from the raw Tracks?? I play el guitar and Are in the teckno Rock segment ,and I have never had better headfone sound from my efeckts simulator stuff,, And they Are if anything maybe to lagt to drive so one high valmue, and were the pioner amp Are not of the best qualty then the sennhezer 380 punish the listene very notesebly,,,
I know, I've seen that. Take a look at their methodology page for how their "soundstage" is calculated. From talking to industry experts, that number is a highly experimental metric. Ask Andrew from the Headphone Show or Dr. Sean Olive on Twitter about it
does anyone know where to get a cable thats coiled right next to the xlr, i am afraid of it getting ripped out! or xlr and then right away a female 3.5 mm? god i shouldnt have bought these
im a 6'7" tall guy and i been using sennheiser momentum 2 (over ear) for year and i been trying to find a pair of headphones for those warm summer nights of gaming. how big do you feel the largest setting is on these?
I found that the sound staging on the PM3’s is a lot better with a good dac/headphone pre-amp. I enjoy the lack of colour and the great separation from these headphones.
I own a pair of high end Canton speakers from Germany, they love their highest end detail for sure, they also expect you to be using all warm tube amps Like a 20k McIntosh!!!!!!
I kind of want to but these for use as in ears for my drumming. The “in ear bud style” ones just hurt my ears and i don’t find them comfortable for long periods of time or short for that matter. Do you think these are a good option for a small acoustic room playing drums? Great video bro nice review!
The 280 is a classic right alongside other highly popular studio monitor headphones like the MDR-7506. The Sennheiser clamps fairly hard but it's necessary for as much passive isolation as I've heard from a closed back headphone. At least they are fully over-ear so nothing like an IEM
@@metal571im trying to get the best fit possible and noise isolating or canceling whatever lol I already have tinnitus from the military days. I appreciate your feedback very much. I’ll check those out too! I already like that the 280s are only 100 bucks. Senheiser is reliable from what i can tell so far
Thanks for this, much appreciated. The spatiality & mids are fantastic. It has good upper & mid bass quantity once it’s powered properly, pad rolling also helps. It does have minor sub bass roll off & it isn’t the most slammy. It’s a special headphone, no doubt about that.
Do not listen to him he is talking bs he doesn't like anything from audio technica this headphones are the best no idea what he hear in his head and not just that even mire cheaper like ath m 50x bt2 that's what i have are good one and i can tell you i have no problem with mixing all is alright when i compared to speakers..
I'm such a late arrival to your channel. Have played music for decades and only just decided to buy decent reference headphones. Within not too long, I realised I find your reviews so god damn good that I go straight to your channel. Sorry the haters ruined it for you, haters are everywhere and, so, fk em. Love your insights! .. as do many.
I bought these back in the late nineties at Mars Music. They’ve always been difficult to drive. I also purchased a Benchmark DAC1 to power them. I used them for critical listening and mixing. I especially used them for referencing mastering projects I would do. Their bass response wasn’t ever good enough to get accurate mixes and masters and be sure you did a good job. They are so light and easy to wear. I tried buying another pair on eBay years later for parts but those turned out to be fake. They had the wrong drivers in them and they sounded awful.
I was definitely lucky to get my hands on a real used pair here, but eventually sold it. I do still have 3 K240s though: an Austrian MK II, a Monitor, and a Sextett LP
Hi metal. Hope you're doing alright. Just wondering what headphones you're currently using on a fairly regular basis. I'll be patiently waiting for your videos to resume one day..
I dunno if you have a pair of DT 880s these days, but did you ever find a decent alternative pair of earpads for them? I do find your ears get too close to the driver and can be uncomfortable.
I just got these for Christmas....and I literally cannot get the detachable cable to detach. I'm deathly afraid I'm going to literally destroy my nice new headphones trying to get the cable to detach (I want to use the shorter cable). Any advice?
I don't remember since it's such an old video but as long as you twist the cable first, then it should pull out relatively easily. This type of connector does not pull straight out. Have to twist it to unlock first
