I just found you and I wanted you to know that my Mom grew up on a sheep farm in Central Western Minnesota. When I told her about your channel she got so excited. She lives in Northwesten Minnesota now and I live in Washington State. My Mom is blind now and I was dicribing what I was seeing and her memories came rushing back. She talked about lambing season and how much she loved, it going to the barn every 2 hours. She talked about how the lambs acted like they had springs for legs and she just laughed. I told her about how you where helping a ewe give birth and she said oh, yes Dad he was there for that. She said how she held her breath when they tried to trick a Ewe to take an orphan. I've seen photos of her with her bottle babies. Times were different in those days. It was the 1940's and they raised the sheep for food and Mom never got attached to them. I'm sure that tomorrow when we talk she'll have remembered more and we'll have a good long chat about the farm. My Mom is 83 yr old and she sounded like she was a teenager. Thank You

I so agree with you. I'm not anywhere near to being a farmer, but I've always felt as if it would be best if I found a way to raise my own food. I would want to know that my food lived a life of dignity, and that its sacrifice was honored. That life was fully carefree until the lights went out. I think that anyone who has pondered the facts of life that go into the food on their plate, who has accepted the reality that animals must die if you consume meat, should be able to watch these videos and feel a little better about the lives led by these animals. In fact, here in my rural area, we have a feed lot with happy cows, and a lot of operations that raise cattle for the market. I see happy animals living their best life. I know that not all animals are raised in the best of conditions, and not all farmers prioritize animal comfort. But I do believe that there are more who care about their livestock than don't.

Wet nurse is when you feed someone else's baby your brestmilk,. It stared as posh people did not want to best feed so the baby stayed a wet nuse who was poor and she fed both baby's. Now excess milk can be frozen and use to help other mothers who can't breast feed, then the milk will bottle feeded.
@lillyess385
@lillyess385 3 года назад
It started thousands of years ago when mothers either died in childbirth (quite common) or if the mother couldn't produce enough milk. Yes, posh women throughout time did pick up the practice but its main function was to feed an infant without a mother.

I'm on day 5 of having sheep. Day 4 was a major "learning curve" day. As in, don't leave the paddock door open, not even a little bit. My wether escaped, and it was 14 hours before we got him back into the paddock. (Our fence build was supposed to be done before the sheep got here, but supplies were backordered). I almost caught him twice, but the first time he yanked himself out of my grip. Second time I chased him into a blind corner and he panicked. He has two straight, forward pointing 20-inch long horns, like javelins, and my arm got in his way. Even a 100 lb sheep can pack quite the wallop. On the brighter side, one benefit of this steep learning curve prior to the building of all the infrastructure is that I get the chance to see what we need to build prior to building it. For example, I've come to realize that no matter how small the flock size (I have 17 total - 7 adults, 10 lambs, trying to rehome 4 immediately), I still need a chute for things like vaccinations. I've also realized that getting four-horned sheep for starters might not have been the brightest choice. But they are gorgeous. Sandi, I'm looking forward to more of your videos. I've been watching your older ones (again) and learning a lot from the way you do things, and extrapolating to my miniature, purposeless, pastured herd of Jacob sheep. You & your videos, during my 370 days of lockdown led to a lot of introspection, soul searching, and quite the few revelations. I really wanted to personally experience sheep (ultimately, I'm going to try to breed breeding stock, sell raw fleeces, and otherwise find ways to be make them justify their existence.

Whew... good luck lady! I don't have anything bigger than 2 nearly 10lb kittens. They aren't fat or a year old yet... anyway I do have livestock background. In our current situation the kitties were a big eye opener to how bad things are here... If you're hoping to sell breeding stock, it might be easier to keep the lambs for your core genetics for your little flock. That way you'll have bonded flock friends, rather than the scared bunch it sounds like especially since they are horned. And you'd probably want to show a bit in the sheep shows or compete with the fiber. Best of luck! I'm jealous :)

Sandi, I am not a farmer, but I am captivated by all you do! I came for the lambs, but keep coming back to watch all you do. I don't know if you ship outside of Canada. But, my family and I all love lamb and would love to buy one of your boxes sometime. You have a great family. Keep up the awesome videos. Thank you

Wow! Quite a busy lambing day! One was Fanny first! Always a bit of adrenaline rush for those. But the other two look good and the road block survived! Yay! This little panda ones sitting in your lap are so dang cute! That’s what hooks us in and makes it worth it! Plus the others hopping around, so fun.

Sandi, I have watched you for a while (years)and I need to tell you about the inspiration you are to me. I’m 75 and have never lived on a farm but have the utmost reverence for the animals of the earth and those who are their caretakers. You say you had 39 lambs born yesterday and you need to get caught up with tagging and such…… the shepherd knows their flock and everything about them……. There’s no way I would remember the statistics about 39 lambs. These little lambs and their Moms know you well. You inspire me to watch, listen, and help where I can. Our shepherd knows us well. What a beautiful legacy you have carved out for Jess and all of us watching !

A thought occurred to me watching the intro...lots of people have advocated updating it to include Miss Lucy (even though she's "supposed" to be hubby's tractor dog). If whoever did the current animation could do the next one, having lucy dart around behind you and peek through between your legs (like she tends to frolic there in real life now) would be ADORABLE!!! ...Just a thought for when things calm down a bit. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you and sharing so much of your lives with us 💗
