guys, when i worked at jcpenney i would start at 1PM ON THANKSGIVING DAY! black friday started on thursday until covid for retail!! it was abuse but we would get paid more!

My favorite Thanksgiving song is “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre” by Arlo Guthrie. I think the song is 20min long but it’s about thanksgiving in a weird way. Sounds random but it’s a bit of an inside joke with my friends and we will send it to each other on Thanksgiving.

Here in KC they play it a few times a day every Thanksgiving on the classic rock station and have for...at least going back to the 90's. My mom actually has a framed copy of the song on an album hanging in her kitchen!

As a fellow midwesterern I can attest to the cool whip salads being at every single buffet-style meal, and Carly might know the Midwest term "hotdish" instead of casserole, as in "I brought the tator-tot hot dish to the Wednesday night potluck at the Lutheran church down the road"

I think Nebraska is still mostly too far south for hotdish, that one is mostly from the areas settled by Scandinavian immigrants, so like the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Illinois, particularly in the suburban areas like Omaha

@@taylordurst706 I also sort of wonder if it is dying off with millennials at all...the sort of potluck social gathering or even just long bake time dishes in general don't seem to be as prevalent anymore. Hell, it's kind of hard to find recipes online that aren't 'easy, 25 minutes!' and require a dish as special and kind of expensive as a casserole

Homemade cranberry sauce is not a Chutney- literally look it up. Chutneys originated in India and recipes for cranberry chutney include things like onion, vinegar, it’s a whole different vibe.
