The excess deviation is being used as the reason for the eternals to go after the X-Men. But this is another attempt to boost the sales of the eternals. But Thanos being used here is the most interesting part.

I don't think it's as much to boost sales for the Eternals as much as it is to make them a relevant element of the overall Marvel universe. So they don't have to go through these never ending cycles of short term appearances that have to serve as an origin/introduction for them every time somebody wants to use the characters again.

I have no experience with Eternals and am no where as experienced with comics as you are, but I don't see the ending the same way you do. I don't think Marvel is trying to change the x-gene and making them deviants. When I read it, I assumed the machine reads/sees the x-gene as a deviant property. So there is space to create this story without changing the lore for the X-men.

Appreciate it Rob,much respect for what you do from this old school collector of Marvel. It's interesting how all the stories change yet some things stay the same. And I am probably one of a few diehard collectors that absolutely love the Eternals from way back along with the Inhumans. Saying that,keep up your good work. He's just been so overexposed and just been so OP-written for more than a decade now thru numerous issues and releases (case and point, Thanos Wins, King Thanos, Thanos becomes TOAA, etc.), I think it's just time for him to revert back to his old self, a powerful Eternal/Deviant with ridiculous powerset and self-righteous motivations, powerful but balanced.

I've realized that comic continuity is basically a game of telephone. Each writer seems to have heard the previous material a little differently, and you end up with each writer doing slightly different things with characters.

I personally didn't interpret Druig's conclusion as Kieron and Marvel changing the mutants history, more like it's Druig's/Eternal's way of interpreting the x-gene mutation. He's basically saying the only to describe the x-gene is deviation since to him they are deviating from how humans where created and are supposed to exist, especially now that they've also found a method to resurrect themselves. To Druig, any being that deviates from its original design is exactly that... a deviant.

Writing out the whole X gene seems like a bad idea, but it could be some kind of hybrid. Like the X gene gets triggers or amplified by the deviant gene or something. Or maybe just some of the mutants, like Nightcrawler and Beast with physical changes, are half deviant. Very curious to where this is going.

It's like so many other things. Thanos is super powerful. Then a writer just does away with him like he is nothing. They really need someone with some power to stop writes from either overpowering or underpowering characters. It's already messed up how someone beats up everyone and then some C level person beats them. It's bad enough they create these people to powerful to use. Then the next time you see them they are no longer what they were. Thor, Hulk. a lot of others.

My issue with the Judgment Day story is the new change to the fact that mutants are no longer the result of the third set of man the Celestials manipulated in their experiment (man people just won’t leave Kirby’s origin for the existence of all super powered being on Earth alone) but are now an off shoot of the Deviants…come on Marvel the Eternals suck and the movie was even worse, stop using the X-Men to help boost their popularity for the MCU

Eh, it'll pass. Messing the mutant populations origins is tradition at this point. Just wait, after the event finishes, some random writer will come out and make a retcon saying the machine was just malfunctioning and that mutants were never offshoot deviants. Hell, the celestial may come down in a later event and say the mutants are the third set of man again. We'll just have to wait. It's not like it matters anyway. Kirby's origin is like 40 years old and only die hards truly care about it, with an even smaller percentage find thinking that it changing is problematic. This'll pass and comics will be comics. Rob has said this plenty of times. The X men will go back to status quo soon enough, until am event needs them to change again.

i'm just here to listen to Rob, because he's awesome. but story-wise, i'm not touching this whole event with a 10 foot pole. it's just poorly written. lots of inconsistencies. and nothing is remotely convincing. basically everything after hickman's run, most of the writers have been doing so bad in my opinion. and some known writers are getting some hit and miss, like benjamin percy on x-force is ok but not on the others. and now if you find out how uranos deals with legion.. ugh. also the forced lgbtq+ agendas.. rachel summers? sorry. marvel comics needs the same thanos snap that DC is currently getting

Eternals definitely don't have more battle experience than Thor anyway even if they had it doesn't make sense cuz Thor have odinforce and you can't close that gap with just more experience

Ooh, what if only resurrected mutants are deviants? There would still be plenty of them, but there may still be some regular pure mutants left. Maybe?
