Bro you should watch Prashant bhai's vlog and how he handles the Gurkha in extreme spiti expedition, new thar is not meant for extreme cold and off road, i prefer Gurkha more than thar.
I have owned two Thar CRDEs in the past. One was 2015 model and another was 2018 model. When new Thar Diesel came out I was so excited! It had more power than earlier Thar and definitely looked better and had become more creature friendly and feature rich. In my earlier Thars I used to zip and dash and go about with impunity thanks to great visibility due to thin A pillars. The steering was nimble and was decently powered. I sold my second Thar and ended up buying Gurkha! Let me tell you the reason: 1. My off-roading time in my earlier Thar was very limited and mostly it was highway and in city drives. 2. I did light to medium off roading and bad road touring. Very limited hardcore off roading. 3. My family members were always challenged in sitting and comfort. So when it came time to decide I factored: 1. Availability of vehicle quickly (did not want to wait, Force Motors got me Karnataka's first black Gurkha in 7 days flat!!!) 2. Seating for my family members i.e. old parents (Thar cannot provide that comfort) 3. Will I always be driving at 120 or 125 on highways? Or, will I always use that much amount of power to race ahead of others? (No, I cannot be a stud or cheeta or whatever any longer) 4. I can always lift and upgrade tyres to gain more ground clearance and off road abilities but I cannot fit a metal hard top or increase space. 5. Force Motors treats me like a king! Mahindra won't. In my recent 3000 km drive whenever I had issues I talked directly at headquarters and was promptly guided by that state's regional managers. 6. Khivraj Motor's Sales Manager Rajan has been in touch with me for last 4 years ever since I test drove Gurkha Extreme. I couldnt buy that beauty then because I had just bought Thar and did not have money. In all these years he has acted more like an acquaintance than someone trying to push sale on me. 7. The driving comfort both on and off road is better in Gurkha. On broken highway I was sailing easily while Innova / Fortuners were slowing down or getting badly shaken up. 8. I am ok to build my pace gradually on highways than pedal to metal. (I have used Dieseltronics as a backup for when needed on highways) 9. Lets try something different and maybe manual diff locks will bring a new skill in me. A lot of people over here are commenting about off road and abilities as if they are big time specialists. There are many other aspects also that need to be kept in mind. Many here will never do any off road or will do mild off road. In that condition Gurkha's plus points will start to matter. As a Gurkha owner I biased my answer towards Gurkha.... similarly I could have done so for Thar as well. After all I have driven 1 lakh KMs or so on CRDE Thar with open flaps / aching shoulders / dusty interiors / angry parents and girl friends!!! Lol
I agree with you. Gurkha is more value for money. Gurkha is much spacious with aesthetic and functional novelty of snorkel, heighten road dominance, comfortable and easy ingress/egress. 2022 model looks awesome.
Bro just one down point of Gurkha is it's underpowered Engine Seriously it does no justice to Gurkha I mean they have increased the engine size from 2.2 to 2.6 bt reduced the powerfrom 140 to 90 !!!!! I mean at my hometown i do have one Gurkha of previous versions the engine was lit They cud have given the same engine even Thar have 140 hp Okay power apart even the Torque is reduced 😐
Thar for Amateur off roaders. Gurkha for Hardcore Expert off roaders. Anyone can drive a Thar off road If you are trained on off road, take the Gurkha to extreme off road where Thar might fail.
*Being An Indian, I always feel proud about both M&M and FM for providing cars of the calibre of Gurkha and Thar within the very handy budget of 20 lakhs!! You never get such car from any foreign manufacturers at this price!! These two are not direct alternate to one another but both are very capable cars and good in their own way!* ❤️❤️🇮🇳🇮🇳
In wheel articulation the Thar is definitely better due to more suspension flex. But the Gurkha can overcome that by using any of the diff locks. 99% of usage will be on roads and uneven trails where the better suspension setup of the Gurkha will shine through. That said both are good Indian vehicles.
Seems like once I need to burst the bubble of people talking about 800 and offroading in same sentence. Gypsy relies on momentum and is not good in technical obstacles, it passes obstacles with speed mostly.
One thing to be understood is that Thar has auto diff locks, so in any obstacle, you get through, which is not the case in Gurkha, where you have to manually engage the diff locks giving more control to the driver. Hence it is not comparing apples to apples. I think more than the car, it's about the driver!!
It's a Brake locking Differential (BLD) which is electronically controlled, it functions on its own will. Works pretty fine in most scenarios. In Gurkha the diffs are mechanical so one can engage and disengage them when he wishes to.
Dude that's BLD(brake locking differential) and it's just a stupid fancy term for the Thar's TC. The mechanical diff lock locks the 2 wheels of each diff constantly which is far more superior.
yes there is articulation more in thar but you skip auto diff lock it will engage automatically thats why thar goes well but if you apply diff lock in gurkha before obstacles there is no differences and comparison.
Here is an appreciation you deserve :- You are one of the very very few motor vloggers who actually gives practical and usable insights along with breathtaking landscapes. What I like best is how you give a crystal clear comparison of features as they are, what they do, and why is it so; without over critiquing or having a bias towards a brand or a vehicle. I appreciate your composure and to the point content. It is seen in the way you have shown the two vehicles for what they are and how they work differently in different situations. Thank god for we have you, apart from the "Jaisa ki aap dekh sakte hain..." Vloggers. Keep up the good work, Godspeed.
hi DCV Expeditions. If you could provide mileage of your Gurkha on different conditions(city/highway/hills etc), it would be of great help. Thanks in advance
gurkha ke manual diff lock ka koi tode nahi thar extreme me atak jayegi lekin gurkha kamARTICULATION hone ke baad bhi nikal jayegi, GURKHA is on another level.
I think Thar has got the looks and meant for light off-roading, Gurkha on the other hand is not that good looking but a very capable off-roader, better in fact. Then it all boils down to the capability of the driver.
It's all about knowing the machinery and mechanism of ur vehicle... Plus ur own driving skills, here I m seeing that, Dinesh is providing all the pros and cons of both vehicles on different terrains. In some places automatic differential locks are good and vice versa.
I feel fully loaded Thar fully occupied passengers and Gurkha will perform differently. With full load the suspension of thar can be damaged. If possible please solve this query also.
Nice video ... Thar has better wheel articulation than Gurkha. No doubt and one thing more I am noticing that the rubber strips of the front door Gurkha are torning out or something @7:10
Wooow! Seriously DCV - mahindra & force R&D should hire people who is adventurous like u to drive there machines before they launch it to the market ! Wht an amazing content brov! Neat ,clear & honest explanations! Also i request u to come to south india also to hit the green mountains! Tnks DCV-
Hi Dinesh, it is after watching your videos on Thar, I stuck with my decision and bought a Thar Petrol ( did not wanted the headache of a DPF ). I have driven it 5500 kms in the past 2 months of ownership and loving every part of it. While in Solang valley, they have a parking for 4x4 vehicles and my Thar had no issues and got to use 4H and 4L both. The strange this is that a Fortuner 2021 4x4 got stuck and I was thinking that it would be easy to take on the obstacle but sometimes weight also plays a down part and then it has a long wheelbase too. This is the best comparison you have done and I am sure there is more to come. There are spots where Thar is unbeatable and some spots where Gurkha holds it ground really well but all in all, both are very capable vehicles. It is not possible to get the best of both the worlds.
Manual Diff lock is very different concept and it involves less sensors compare to auto diff locks. It's like driving automatic car compare to manual transmission car. Car does everything for you. No offense on anyone's skills or technical skills. But you learn more about off roading in manual diff lock suvs. You have to take different approach when you do it in MDL suv. Because up to certain level your driving skills will come in help in tricky conditions. Those skill you will able to improve in MDL suv.
Its more to do with suspension travel in this video rather than capabilities of diff locks. Jeep Wrangler is a perfect combination of both. Very good suspension articulation and manual diff locks. When the suspension travel is good, you reduce the usage of diff locks a lot. But the good, bad road handling at high speed is what I think is the strength of Gurkha, which it will lose if it gets a suspension with higher travel and softer spring rate.
@@DCVExpeditions i think all the the time in your video it was "how easy Thar came through obstacles". Not because of suspension articulation because of automatically operated diff locks. Which you mentioned also in video " kaise zhataka de ke bahar nikalti hai".
@@scorpio9156 if all the four Tyre touch the ground with better articulation then no MLD is required. In case of Gurkha it has poor articulation so only 2 tyres touching the ground differential will slip and car will be stuck unless you use diff locks
@@DCVExpeditions in this video from 5:12 to 6:01 did Thar locked it's diff lock or not? If yes then why it happened? Thar has more articulation but still auto diff lock got activated. So it is not about the suspension but little toy call auto diff locks.
Brother i want to take gurkha just for its looks... I am a Powerlifting player and i love these kind of cars.... I will barely go to such places like you.... I will go to ladakh and spiti once or twice in mylife but i love such suvs Rytnow i am having tuv300 ...should i go for 4x2 gurkha or thar 4x2 And also if i get 4x2 gurkha will.i get all.the accessories company fitted just for show off my car 😅😅
Yes you will . 4wheel drive has nothing to do with ascessories . Gurkha is completely for offroading purpose . Thar you have to modify . But you must go for 4by4 gurkha . Otherwise for dont go for gurkha
@@devanshchaudhary6204 thank you for replying ...At first i was thinking to upgrade from tuv to scorpio but then i thought to take some serious suvs ( hard core) thats why i am attracted towards thar and gurkha...one thing i prefer about thar is its petrol engine cozz my yearly running on such cars will be only 5-6 thousand cozz for family trips i have xuv 500 and in future i will have another mpv for family trips
so basically beginner can easily drive THAR on offfroad nd overall Rough road + non auto diff Gurkha is better ❤and 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐡𝐚 can also be sell in world-wide 😅 but thar couldn't 😢
Please give a feedback to force motors about its low ground clearance. Ground clearance should be improved. Force Kargo king ground clearance is 239 mm. Where as the hardcore off roader has only 205 mm.
Bro articulation ko diff lock se shi kr skte ho. But bohot jagah that ki articulation bhi shi nhi kaam karegi waha manually locking diff better hogi na ?
@7:09 @DCV door beading from top center has came out...its an old quality issue with force vehicle...since you got a new ,u must give this feedback to force ...rest im watching ur videos...and enjoying it 👍
Yes upgrading suspension will increase the performance dramatically , you can also opt for the detachable sway bars so that you vehicle also performes good on road as well as in rough terrains it will make your pockets lighter but sometimes you just don't need to justify some things
If thar has Auto Diff Locks then you should deploy Diff locks of Gurkha before such obstacles. Then only it is a clear Comparison. Because if you are getting an option to turn of diff locks and go smooth and fast in rough terrain... That's an Advantage. My Vote Goes To Gurkha
@dcv expedition Haan Dinesh bhai batao na kaunsa hai ye 2in1 kaam wala....shayad maine ye aapke Bulu bhai kinfamily se milne ke waqt ke blog mein dekh rakha tha...but brand n kya kehte hain isse wo bhul gaya hun...hosake to plz bataiye
The reason why Gurkha pulls Thar in Tug of War because of the big engine low end power and torque and Manual Locking Differentials that help Gurkha. If Thar also had these raw off-road features then it would have been also great but i think now Gurkha is the only car which can pull Pajero in Tug Of War.
Sir aap Gurkha le rahe the tab to bahut dukh ho gaya tha kyuki me already thar book kiya huwa hai last September me. But video dekh k abhi kuch hu. Mujhe thar lena bhari nahi parega.. Thar is the best. Aapka video hamesha dekhta hu. Hope to join u this year end with my New Thar. Love from Assam
This is the biggest misconception among people who don't travel in these regions. Alto is common bcz its cheap, small and petrol. It gets stuck so easily even with local drivers.
Selling India's own vehicles as Mahindera should be easy with the population of 1.3 billions. I have seen a few years back on the road in Malaysia. Impressive. 👍👍👍🇲🇾
I have both Gurkha(2022) and Thar(2021) Thar Gurkha City ✔️ ❌ OffRoad ✔️ ✔️ Boot ❌ ✔️ Power ❌ ✔️ Care ❌ ✔️ Comfort ✔️(B❌) ✔️(B✔️) It's my personal opinion but gurkha is not for cities people get scared of it's bulky looks lol
I own a scorpio s11 4wd and wanna try my beast in these conditions..but to my bad luck i just have river beds around me n im done off roading along the river beds..but yes you guys should visit sandakphu in west bengal it is worth a drive..... n im proud i have successfully conquered it in my scorpio s 11 4 wd
could you also compare sway bar setup between thar and gurkha in one of your videos please? is the articulation of the gurkha limited by their sway bar setup?
