We get spoiled on those great farm products. When my girls started eating at college they realized how good farm food was. I’m retired now and high prices on everything is keeping me from doing any improvements to the farm just trying to tread water. My wife says my favorite saying is ( it’s always something)

My Grandfather used to strain the milk through cheese cloth. These clothes would get boiled when washing them so that they were always spotless. The shop bought glass of Milk is like water in comparison to a glass of freshly milk from a cow. That bring back lovely memories of my Grandparents. Thank you for making the butter and milking your lovely cow. 🙏🕊️💚☘️🇮🇪

Great video everyone, sure enjoyed the road work Andy and your helpers did a great job anchoring the ditch cloths. Sure hope it all holds for you. Great combination of tractors you have and they both serve their purpose well. Breaking in a new cow to the milk set up and handling is quite a chore that takes lot of patience and you two are doing a great job and really glad for the butter and milk and all you get from the milk. As a kid I remember we would strain the milk 3 times through cloth and set it on the table for breakfast and it was so good , seemed to help our systems work too. Stay safe around there any your helpers are really doing a great job around there. Fred.

When I was two years old I went to live with my nanie and papa. I might've been scrawny and half starved, but I was always wanting something to do. Worried nanie to death until she finally give in and set me up to churn buttermilk, and she said when it starts getting hard to churn would be enough, she actually thought I'd give it up before too long because I was so scrawny. Well I tore into it, after days of trying to do something productive, I wanted to show I could do all kinds of things, though that was my first time churning, because my other grandmother filled a gallon jar with milk and shook it by rocking back and forth in the rocking chair. She kept asking if it was getting hard to churn, and I kept saying not yet. That last time she asked, I said it was getting kinda harder to churn, so she opened up the lid and looked at papa and said, she's done made butter!! Papa didn't get no buttermilk to go with his cornbread that night for supper, and nanie took more care in giving me proper instructions on any farm chore after that, and I got to milk the cow a few days later. We had a boatload of butter neither one of them knowed what to do with, it was a big floor churn and in that house buttermilk didn't last long at all, so after talking it over, we washed the butter, salted some of it, formed it, wrapped it up in wax paper and gifted to folks on nearby farms.

I agree about the butter when I was a kid, I am 71 now we had fresh milk, butter etc. delivered right to our front door. That stopped when they had to start pasturizing the milk. Put the small daries out of business. The butter is the thing that I missed the most.

Growing up, my mom would put cream in a quart mason jar and we’d sit and just turn it back n forth. Didn’t shake it, just turn it right to left. I guess a 180 you’d say. It made up butter in no time. That’s good idea with food processor, we didn’t have one of those. Lol this was in 1970s. They did the farmsteading thing back when the world was going to heck and interest rates 18% or more and gas lines, Carter was president, everything high. It was worse than now, in a lot of ways, but not many talk about it. So anyway, my dad bought a big piece of land 150 acres, had old stone foundation and hand dug well that was good. Built Log cabin like old days, i peeled logs with flat how, he even made wood shingles. Mom n I canned 800+quarts vegetables and meat that summer from our garden and what we raised. Had about every animal you can imagine, cut our hay, cut our firewood and cooked on woodstove only except summer. I mean, looking back, it was hard! So glad I know how to survive. Only problem Is I been a widow 11 years and no hope in sight and I sure miss doing all that. So… I get to through y’all! Thank you for your channel.

Wow, I wish we could buy cashed concrete for 400 a load here in FL. I make a living (just barely) with a dump truck, and that mixture of concrete costs me 600 to put it on the truck. You're right. Things have sky rocketed with THIS administration. You won't have any trouble with wet when you finish THAT road. Concrete get hard and you can't give enough water. Good job.

Meagan, you can never be too careful. My great grandma many years ago was raising her family on Chimney Top Mtn not far from here in TN. She was pregnant and went to milk one day. The cow kicked her and killed the baby. She lost another baby while living on the mtn from stillbirth. Little Nellie and Polly are buried up there. Andy, your work on this video was awesome! The road will be so much better. Love watching your sweet kiddies helping you. My same ggrandma and grandpa left TN and moved to PA. they had a farm and when I visited she “let me” 😂 help her churn. I remember her straining her butter through cheese cloth. Then she made it into a ball like yours. The way you work reminds me of her. She died when I was about 12. Love your alls videos. ❤

Good morning. I’d like to make two comments. First of all you are precious with your children but especially how you interact with your little girl. It is precious. I did not have a mother like you. I had a mother who put me on prescription diet pills when I was four years old because I was just a chubby little baby. But I digress you are just precious and your little girl is truly blessed which I know your son is too but it is Darlene how you let her help you and it melts my heart. And second of all my husband is a Kabota man too. He just recently got an older small model kind of like when Andy was using about that size to restore.oh my gosh I don’t know why he wanted this thing because to me well, let’s just say I’m not able to see the diamond in the rough, lol. Thanks for another good video. God bless.

Andy...totally agree with you... making anything from scratch, like a road, or shed, house, even connecting to a grid of electricity... let alone food, fuel, or anything....it's all getting to a point, people can't afford it...taxes are killing people and businesses...and taxes are voluntary... They close down American farmers, factories for imports and soon these cheap things are more expensive then what the American quality products were... Just buying fencing materials last week for a very small house yard, was so high... l am sure l did a acre, some years back for the same price.. But you do quality work...understand the value of money..and are still humble and true to your roots...

Use a pan or other flat weight to flatten your bacon in the cast iron skillet. You'll get more fat rendered that way, and it cooks more evenly. I cook my bacon on the lowest possible heat in order to be able to get as much fat from it whilst not burning the meat. A full pan of bacon takes an hour or more, but you get a good yield
