THAT 90S SHOW SEASON ONE RETROSPECTIVE 

This is a Final Cut. When I make bigger videos like season retrospectives or video essays, I split them into two so I can get them out in a timely manner. The Final Cuts combine the videos as one big one, sometimes I add new stuff in if there's updates or anything i feel I missed out. When there's mistakes in the original videos, I also fix them You'll see "Final Cut" on all the thumbnails of these types of videos moving forward so everyone knows what they're getting into when clicking on a video.

My biggest problem with the show is that none of the characters feel like they're in the 90's, Oz especially. Feels more like what 14 year olds think the 90s was like.

They should tie the backstory of raising hope and the backstory of hydes absence together.

They should bring in Danny’s brother, Chris to take over as Hyde.

the weed they found in candyland would not have been smokeable.

Hopefully season 2 will explain how when Bob moved out he was able to successfully get his other two daughters bodies out of the basement without anyone noticing.

The reason Eric still looks like he’s stuck in 1976 is because in the 90’s there was a large portion of the adult population who WERE still stuck in the 70’s. The outdated hair and clothes IS the joke.

I think depicting Eric as the typical stuck-in-the-past dad who never updates his wardrobe and becoming even more clueless and less helpful about Donnas needs (and letting her take the reins about almost everything) is actually an accurate depiction of how their relationship would most likely evolve.

If they had said Hyde was in prison, it would have made sense since his mom told him he would end up in prison if I'm remembering correctly. He had the kind of childhood that creates future convicts.

Intentional or not, I find something charming and sweet about Donna being like the "clue that holds their family together" considering her mother left their family in the OG series.

My theory on why Eric is dressing the same way as the previous show is showing that he is still holding on to the past during the happiest times of his life and doesn’t want to let go of his past. The producers might have done this on purpose to convey that to the audience. His character even in the original show shown that he does want to hold onto the past and that was some of the reasons his character and Donna’s character fought in the original series. Also he was shy character and slightly got out of his element when he quoted his dad’s original line.

With Danny Masterson being sentenced to 30 years to life in prison, they could definitely mention Hyde is in prison. They won't but, they definitely could. It's a shame that Hyde ended up being a much better person than the actor portraying him.

I liked that Kitty and Red were part of the main cast. Debra Jo and Kurtwood floated back into the roles, as though they'd never been absent. It was also nice to see cameos from the old cast.

I'm in my 40's and I basically dress the same way I did in my 20's. I would've kept my long hair too except I didn't want to be one of those balding guys with long hair. I'm guessing Betsy is in Illinois where she grew up with her mom. This is the one thing I strongly disagree with you on. Eric threating to put his foot up Leia's ass WAS played off as being both funny and shocking BECAUSE it was the thing Red would tell him all the time. And it WAS funny.

The only good thing about the Writer's Strike is that when filming starts, the kids will actually look like what That 70's Show actors season 1 looked like.

This season started on the 4th of July weekend 1995, with Leia's 15th birthday being a few weeks later; meaning Leia was born in late July 1980. Being that the original show ended with the clock striking midnight, reigning in January 1st, 1980, even IF Donna conceived her an hour or two later, Leia should have been born in late September or early October. So either Leia was born 2 months premature...or she's not Eric's.....and i think they should run with that!!! Hear me out; imagine a 3-episode arc that revolves around Leia learning that Eric isn't her real father: Part 1- Eric and Donna are visiting for the week, and through overhearing a conversation in the other room, Leia learns that Eric isn't her real father. The rest of the episode consists of her having an identity crisis, questioning who she really is, whether her mom cheated or not, and of course, who her real father is and why he isn't around. The episode ends with Leia confronting Donna and Eric. Part 2- Donna and Eric admit that it's true, Eric isn't her actual father. However, neither of them are willing to tell Leia about her real father, with their reason being 'to protect her', causing Leia to become angry and start calling Eric by his name instead of 'Dad'. Throughout the episode, she avoids them as much as possible, calls them names, gives attitude, and refuses to listen to them. Red recognizes the anger and pain that this secret is causing her, and the episode ends with Red sitting Leia down and saying, "Let's talk, Kiddo", implying he's going to tell her who her real father is. Part 3- It's the following morning; Red, Kitty, Eric, and Donna are eating breakfast, talking about what they're going to do about Leia. Donna leaves the kitchen to go wake up Leia but comes back and declares that Leia's gone. Kitty, Eric, and Donna start freaking out, searching the house, and throwing out ideas of her running away, being kidnapped, or worse. Finally, Red cuts in and says that he knows where she is. Cut to a trashy neighborhood or trailer park, Leia approaches a house/trailer, there's lots of noise and yelling inside. She knocks...and Randy Pearson opens the door. The episode then consists of Leia trying to get to know Randy, who is a fat, balding, out-of-work drunk. His current wife is loud and nagging, and they clearly don't love each other. He has multiple kids from multiple different women and doesn't care for any of them, including Leia. Sadly, she realizes that THIS is the truth that her parents wanted to protect her from. She leaves and sits down on the curb to cry. Eric shows up, alone, and quietly sits on the curb and puts his arms around her to comfort her. She asks him if he knew about Randy. He admits he did, acknowledging that when her mother told him that she was pregnant, he realized that he hadn't been home from Africa for long enough to be her father; but that it didn't matter because he loved her mother. She then asks how he can still care for her, even after all the hurtful things she's said since finding out the truth, and he tells her, E: "Because; whether my blood or not, you ARE my daughter, and I wouldn't change that for anything in the galaxy...this one or the one far, far away." L: "Dad!" (finally calling him 'Dad' again) E: "Sorry" both chuckle and then hug even tighter...

They were also no references to the 90s. Or not that many. No MTV. no Kurt Cobain. At least they had techno.

I would’ve rather seen the original cast living as adults in the 90s. They had chemistry and comedic timing. The new cast are all terrible unfunny actors.

I feel called out. I’m 42 and I still wear the exact same styles I did in High School. Polos, baggy jeans, and Jordans. I even got made fun of at my last family Thanksgiving because my cousin pulled out photos from my College graduation and I was wearing the same polo. Not the same style; the same EXACT article of clothing. It’s held up for 20 years.

They made two characters like Kelso because Leia is both Eric and Donna in one

Gwen, Nate, Jay and Nikki are really fun. Oz can be a little over the top IMO

Kelso and Jackie seemed like the only ones that where shoehorned in I think they could of handled them better. Everyone else was great especially Fez

The first half of the season was just ok, not great. But the last half of the season, I was dying from laughter. I think Laura Prepon directed the last two episodes. Those episodes were the best. She's got a future in directing if she ever decides to move on from acting.

Tbh Laurie needs to return. I feel she can add a new dynamic to the whole group. She can be a college dropout bum who spends her time drinking and partying. She’ll be like a new Hyde character that’s legal to buy them drinks but a bad influence idk. I feel her character can go through an arc of learning to mature or something

I enjoyed it enough. I only cared for 2 kid characters but, it was better than I expected, and Donna is still so incredibly hot

I’m glad Jackie and Kelso ended up getting back together because I’m sure the writers realized the forced Jackie and Fez Relationship towards the end of 70s show was a Mistake

He hasn’t aged because he went into a coma midway through season 4 the rest of the show is in his imagination so he stays the same age he went into a coma. The That 70s show conspiracy is now cannon!!!

Disagree that Leia and Nate nearly kissing feels tacked on. They both see love in very similar ways. Leia is struggling to cope with Jay not really wanting to give long distance a chance and the fact their cute relationship lacks that hopeless romantic energy she gives off. Nate meanwhile loves dearly his girlfriend Niki, but she can be very controlling, doesn't fully believe in their future and she also lacks that romance aspect he is looking for too. I do agree that storyline could've benefited from more interactions between the pair and been more fleshed out. I do see it playing out the Nate and Niki relationship similarly to Jackie and Kelso relationship, but it is very possible something they deal with more maturely. It might not end in a breakup but possible a break in their relationship. This seems like a very 1990s episode about the difference between a break and a breakup. Finding themselves and exploring new adventures without each other. I'm not sure I am not on the writing team. I see potential though. I do feel ultimately Leia and Nate won't end up together. I could be wrong though.

I’m gonna say this . I recently watched gossip girl again, and for those who know Chuck Bass, you will know that his character was a villain at first , who assaulted girls sexually, and even had seggs with a character who was the youngest of the crew , who’s name was “LITTLE J” Then In later seasons , “Chuck Bass “gets a redemption and everyone loves him. He’s still human and people forgave him bC of his victim back story . This is different from Real life and the unfortunate things that happened with DM aka Hyde . In no way am I saying we should have compassion for DM , but his character is a separate person for the real life individual who clearly went thru something, otherwise, he would have not raped . I think DM as a human being deserves his redemption. But he’s a dead man walking . And people will never forget nor forgive him. I think that’s a little sad , I’m looking forward to learning about his history and seeing how this plays out for hIm. Is he gonna die in prison?

This seems more like a show for pre teen children. I watched the first season and couldnt take it anymore and doubt ill ever watch it again. I'm happy with just That 70s Show

The characters are 14-15 years old, which is the most off-putting part, considering a lot of the subject matter and how nonchalant most of the adults are about the stuff they get away with.

Practically none of the writing that made that 70s show an actually great show compared to the bog standard of its sitcom counterpart is present in this show. It is use using the format of the show. It doesn't feel like it has the same creative attention.

To be honest i was hoping by the end of season 1 that Leia would kiss Gwen. I hope they are endgame to keep with the girl next door to parallel Eric and Donna.

I don’t think Jay is Jackie’s kid. 1. They show very obviously that Jay is Kelso’s son in the scene they have together. They show no interaction with Jay and Jackie. 2. Jay talks about his dad Kelso and the Kelso side of the family, but never talks about Jackie directly. 3. He mentions his mom but it’s never explicitly stated his mom is Jackie. 4. Jay was born in 1979 and Jackie was not pregnant in 1979.

Finding out that Mila was 13 or 14 in the first season while Ashton was 18 or 19 makes their romantic moment a bit creepy (though I know they didn't start dating until after Mila was an adult and got married decades later).
