The problem with this kind of training is that it is not very applicable to football. Football is a sport consisting of 4-7 seconds of 100% output, followed by approximately 40 seconds of rest, then repeated. This type of activity is called alactic anaerobic. The training these guys are doing is called lactic anaerobic, which is not reflective of the activity done on a football field. In other words it's like preparing for the 100m sprint by training for an 800m sprint. Nothing wrong with using this as GPP (general physical preparedness) training but it needs to be understood that the athletic ability developed in this type of training will not have an ideal transitional athletic ability on the football field. There is a reason this type of training is not done at the highest levels of the sport.

+ffryan I hope both of you know and understand to become great one must train the body in all different ways to prevent a flat line one must shock the muscle to make it adjust and get stronger. this is just another way to train does not mean later in the day they actually practice football. remember one must hit the target heart rate to burn the most body fat as you can see most of those young men where not under 5percent body fat.
@ffryan
@ffryan 8 лет назад
+dru713281 You lost me at target heart rate. Fitness magazines seem to love writing articles about it but studies have long since proven that these zones are nothing more than fiction. Type "target heart rate myth" into a search engine and you'll read what science says. The only people who are under 5% body fat are competitive bodybuilders, and they are only that way for a few days a year around competition time. It is well known that bodybuilders are weak as kittens at competition time. Low body fat is not a good thing for most athletes. You need a certain level of fat in order for your metabolic system to produce enough energy for you to be efficient. I am not sure where you got the impression that to become great you must train in everything. That is how you become average. People who are good at everything are great at nothing. You do not improve alactic performance by training the lactic system. This has been proven at the muscular, neurological, and metabolic levels. There is far too much science disproving this ideology.

ffryan the American heart association has great facts for you to dive into so you understand how important it is to monitor your heart rate, whomever science is or where you got your info from I hope you can trust their misinformation I work as a training director and train people for free when I have free time to help those who are afraid of the gym scene so they understand how important it is to invest in their health as their primary focus, I see people grow and fail over time and all I can say is that I know from experience through others and their lifestyles how to achieve a healthy lifestyle, i see all sorts of fads and trends and the most dramatic and fastest way to a successful route is through that fat burning zone so that it ensures it is not moderate which is ideal for off days away from your intense training from which ever level u are, how bout i upload a vid for u from work and have the people tell you themselves what they have achieved so you can try it and see if it works for you what do you have to lose

+dru713281 I am familiar with the AMA and their list of resources. I also understand that they cling to some rather archaic doctrine as well. Target heart rates being one and the Body Mass Index scale being another. You know the BMI right? The same 200 year old calculation system that concludes Cam Newton, Dez Bryant and Adrian Peterson are overweight, and that JJ Watt is obese. You'd be better served by being a bit more critical of the things you read. I appreciate your background, and I hope you appreciate mine. I'm a former college level football player, spent 5 years under the guidance of a strength and conditioning coach and assistants at one of the most successful football programs in the country, graduated with a degree in exercise science, and still hold CSCS certification. I commend your efforts to help people and their lifestyles, but understand that I entered into a discussion about training for the sport of football. Stay on point, or you'll be continuing this discussion alone.

This is one of the worst workouts I have ever seen. Kids are not only going to get injured doing this they also are going to fry their nervous system and get little benefit from a tiring workout. Just think about nfl football it is a explode for ten seconds rest for 40 seconds sport why not have training and conditioning closer to that??
