That JRPG Podcast #4: Xenogears 

The greatest work of fiction I have experienced in my entire life. Not a single day goes by where I don't think about something relating to Xenogears...

One of the best games I've ever played and finished and will love until the end of time. I can't imagine my life without it now. The themes, characters, lessons, and music will stick with me forever.

I played this at launch, and it's my favorite gaming experience ever. I can recognize all the flaws, but it was the perfect game at the perfect time in my life.

One of the best stories ever written along with the battle system. If I had several millions I would do a remake for ps5. This battle system was amazing.

Will be my favorite game until the day I die, probably helps that it was my first JRPG. I still listen to the OST now and then

This game is literally the greatest Mobile Suit Gundam JRPG ever made.

Throughout my life it's somewhat debatable what's my top best game. But as I pass middle age and towards the last stage of life(also the fact that games get more and more politicized towards one direction these days) , I can safely say Xenogears is the best game(or even the best entertainment form) I have ever experienced in my life. Despite its flaws it gave me the perfect experience.

I was reading for the first time the apocriph gospels, and DAMN! This game hit too close to home, it fuelled my understanding of those books a lot, even my mentors were impressed. It's second only too Berserk in regard of symbolism.

xenogear one of the best rpg I've ever played in my life alongside breath o fire, with religious themes, occultism, symbology, humanities, psychology, social, politic, fighting arts and war with giant robots, very beautiful. My favorite characters grahf, bart, Mariah, miang, krelian, id, fei, citan, Billy, xuxu could be better and the others are cool too, they could do a remake with changes and additions or a direct continuation of the game, front mission 3 is very good too and xenogear I think that with fixed class characters in a tactical game like front mission 3 it would be very good, anyway waiting for something like that for these wonderful titles, Brazil. xenogear um dos melhores rpg que ja joguei em minha vida ao lado de breath o fire, com temas religiosos, ocultismo, simbologia, humanas, psicologia, social, político, artes de luta e guerra com robôs gigantes muito lindo. As a german i was very very lucky getting my hands on this game over 20 years ago do to a good freind who bought a Pirated copy from the philipines. Unfortunately i Was never able to finish the game because the second CD was broken and didnt work. More than 10 years later i Tried to download the game and play it on my PS one but i had exactly the same Issue. CD 1 worked CD 2 didnt. I hope someday i May play it on my PS 5 the last rpg on my list i have to finish.

Great game, the only thing that I don’t like is the random enemy encounters

I still have my copy of this game and I love it I’ve never got to beaten it tho I only got to the part where u fight Rico Banderas I’ve never played it again but it’s a good thing I still have my save file and my ps2 to play this awesome game again

I didn't get far in this game (played using FPGA emulation). But ya, maybe I should try and get back into it. Ya I heard how the 2nd disc was "rushed" from internet critics. So it sounds like they just had to sacrifice gameplay for the story and it isn't "rushed" like everyone claims. Well, one day I gotta get back into it or maybe watch a playthrough as I got too much backlog as well as other life stuff. As for the SPOILER section: Ya, kinda crazy to know that you fight god or "The God." I read that SMT games can have you fight God as well, but I guess those are portrayed as edgy, so not too surprising in that case. Another game that kind of has you fight "God" is Final Fantasy Tactics. I guess the St. Ajora character is supposed to be like Christ, and the Church of Ivalice hid the truth (like he is supposed to be a heretic from what I remember). So he is the final boss (in a way).

Ironically I think Xenogears basically became Chrono Trigger 2 anyway. In the sense that, thematically Xenogears and Chrono Cross are much closer to one another than either of them are to Chrono Trigger. As far as what I think actually is Chrono Trigger 2? I've said it before but that would be Dragon Quest 7. It's got Toriyama, it's got kids who accidentally Time Travel causing a change in their present, it's quirky and funny with a wide cast of characters. DQ7 is basically Chrono Trigger just expanded into roughly 3 times the length I would say, if not longer.

Could you please help me find an old game that I cannot find at all. I've looked through hundreds of articles and watched multiple videos of rpg and jrpgs for PS1 and PS2 and I can't find it but I have such vivid memories of it and I know it existed.

Many many people feel like it’s one of the best aged games visually… Which I completely agree with even though I love the hear a difference of opinion. I think objectively you can look at Octopath and games like that and if you just run Xenogears through any emulator and there’s actually a whole retexture mod that makes the game look beautiful Polygons are crisp and clear and it’s one of the best looking games for the PS1. I know you’re waiting to play later, but you might wanna fire it up with the mods and see how wonderful the game looks. They also halved the encounter rate and increase the rewards by double to offset that with many many other additions And balancing. I think if you see how good the game can look you might have a different opinion

It’s funny because this is one of the least grind games from its time. I never had to grind. There’s plenty of opportunity to work on your own foot death blows, and all the gear/mech battles are all based on equipment. So there’s absolutely zero time needed to grind for a gear battle or boss battle like the one you reference in the beginning, which is calamity. Most people lose there because they didn’t upgrade their equipment before fighting and if you do, it’s not even a hard fight.
