Day 2 of my heritage railway trip where this time I visit The Severn Valley Railway!

Earlier this year I embarked on a trip round the UK to visit some of the countries best heritage railways. After a successful visit to the Churnet Valley Railway on Day One, the second day really took things up a notch as I headed to the famous Severn Valley Railway for the first time ever.
In steam on the day of my visit was 2857 the GWR Heavy Goods Loco along with the Class 52 Western Champion and Class 20 hauling the diesel services. The set of LNER teak coaches was also in use and so I got to ride up and down the line in these fabulous coaches in one of the compartments.
I was astounded at how well each of the stations are kept on the Severn Valley Railway and you can see the team of volunteers are really dedicated to keeping all aspects of the line in fantastic condition.
The Severn Valley Railway also has a museum at Highley station named The Engine House which you could easily spend a day at in itself. This houses a collection locos and rolling stock the railway owns but isn't currently using. Everything is in a very good cosmetic condition and like the rest of the railway, The Severn Valley Railway have really gone all out with this.
Thank you to all the volunteers and staff at the railway for making me so welcome! I'm so glad I've finally visited The Severn Valley Railway and if you haven't been yourself I Highley* recommend you take a trip over there in the future.
*Pun intended!

Excellent footage. Well done. Lucky enough to live only half an hour's drive from Kidderminster Station, I've visited the SVR a number of times since the late 70s. The time, effort, expertise, millions of pounds, and, of course, love, that's gone into it's development over the decades can't help but impress. I've not visited many other preserved railways, but the SVR must be hard to beat; it has so much going for it. A generous 16-mile route with plenty of interesting twists and turns, embankments, cuttings, stonebuilt bridges and viaducts, a long tunnel and the elegant Victoria iron bridge over the river. Then there's the marvellous scenery and sights along the banks of the Severn - including camels and rhinoceroses in the safari park! Picture-postcard country stations: prize-winning Arley is just gorgeous; Kiddderminster, they even built from scratch to a traditional design. And at each station there's something to explore - the river side at Arley, the old town at Bewdley, for instance. Then there's a wide range of steam and diesel locos, coaches and wagons in the home fleet, all overhauled and maintained in heavily invested depots and workshops. Two museums choc full of static locos and railway paraphernalia. And even two pubs. What's not to love about the SVR? I know I do. Even if you're not a railway enthusiast, it offers a superb family day out, with more than enough to see and do. It's a must-visit, especially during a 4-day gala event.

The Severn Valley Railway is definitely one of the best railways in the country alongside places like The Great Central Railway (which featured in my latest video!) and the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. All three of those just show what can be achieved when there is huge amount of enthusiasm and effort from the volunteers involved with it and crucially, a decent amount of funding to support that enthusiasm. Thanks for watching 😃

It's certainly a fantastic railway and one you definitely have to experience yourself I think. The volunteers have taken such pride in the railway and it's incredible to see how it's thrived! Thanks for watching 😃

This video is well worth the wait, everything on the railway is beautifully decorated and well cared for, definitely a place I'd like to go to if I ever visit the UK. 😊

It's such a fantastic railway and I can see what people mean when they say it's one of the best in the country. It's a great example of what happens when a heritage railway is successful and really flourishes. Thanks for watching 😃

Love the Severn valley, my family visit quite frequently, since we live about 15 minutes from Kidderminster, and my mom runs a holiday rental in bewdley. It's great to see others enjoy it too

Spectacular video, That Model Railway Guy, thoroughly enjoyable in every respect, right up there in the top tier with pennysteam, Marsh, and so on. Capturing on video all those fussy details that can make or break a model railway, traditional or virtual, is greatly appreciated. This will be my "default" Severn Valley reference video. Not to mention it's a superb heritage railway to begin with. Imagine, those teaks were in everyday use in their time! And with a heritage railway, model or otherwise, you can mix your stock and locos any which way. Many thanks, indeed, can't wait for your next.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it's definitely been good going back over this footage to see all the little details and things I missed in the moment. There's definitely a lot of things I'm planning on recreating on my own layout... just need more space for an epic Diesel Depot now! 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

That's only 1 of their GWR carriage rakes. they've got a larger rake they use on other days. the class 52 "western champion" is hauling a rake of LMS 1940's coaches. the SVR is one of the few places you can see a LNER, LMS, and GWR rakes all together. I've been going there since I was 1, definitely somewhere close to my heart. shame you went there on a day with only 1 steamer running, the steam galas are awesome so I recommend them. Great video 👍🏻... now a subscriber.

Yes I had a feeling they had more. In some ways I’m surprised they don’t have a Southern set stashed somewhere to get a full house! Thanks for watching 😃

As someone who lives in the States, and unfortunately not very close to any heritage railways, I envy you Brits for having so many of them across the country, and I've only ever heard good things about the SVR. Whenever I get a chance to cross the pond, visiting the Severn Valley will definitely be on my bucket list. I've heard so many people wibbling about the purple West Country, but I personally quite like it. I'd love to get a model of it if I could find one for a decent price :)

If you ever decide to come over to our side of the Atlantic, I would highly recommend the Tennessee Valley Railroad in Chattanooga. It's my home railway, I suppose, and I'm very proud of it :)

The SVR is probably my favourite preserved line and I visit it at least twice a year. I've always had a close bond with it ever since I used to watch God's Wonderful Railway on TV when I was little. I named my brother after the lead character, Andy and we named our house Highley.
