THAT RIFF IS ICONIC... SCORPIONS - THE ZOO | REACTION 

That RIFF!!!!! This is one of Scorpions' most underplayed songs, and I have never understood why. Rudolf Schenker is a freaking BEAST on rhythm guitar. And Sceez - according to Wiki, this song was written during a tour of the United States, and The Zoo is in NYC. 42nd Street is a major thoroughfare in the Big Apple, as it goes all the way from midtown Manhattan through Hell's Kitchen at the Hudson River. If you were to make that journey, you'd pass through Times Square, as see such landmarks as Grand Central Station, the UN Building, the Chrysler Building, and Broadway.

42nd street NYC is affectionately known as the Zoo.

The Zoo is NYC. 42nd St. runs right thru Times Square. When this was written Times Square was home to X-rated theaters, strip clubs and bars and was occupied by junkies, hookers and dealers. It wasn't what it is now. If you were "looking for a good time", that's one of the places you went

Before the internet, had no idea about the location of the Zoo. I grew up in the western USA. I thought it might be referencing West Berlin, supposedly it was crazy there, too. That's why it attracted artists like Iggy and Bowie. Even with a reference to 42nd street, your mind fills in the holes for you. None of that matters cuz the minute that lead guitar riff starts in, you're hooked. Blackout was the first album I bought by them in like 1983, but this song made me a fan for life.

'The Zoo' is a sexual reference to getting it on like animals... 🤣

The Zoo is what they used to call NYC back in the 70’s and early 80’s, not sure if this is where this song is referring to though, there’s plenty of City’s World wide that fit that bill. Great request Patrick. Nice review slime master.

This one is from one of the two Best Scorpions albums; Animal Magnetism (1980). The other album is Lovedrive (1979). You could react to every song from both of those albums...and will likely enjoy each one. So yeah...not going to list every song from those two albums. Just pick any from them if you want more.

What grabs me about this song is the guitar burst at the beginning. i can hear that anywhere at any distance and my blood starts flowing. Then comes that chunky bass line... And I head for The Zoo.
