Absolutely magnificent people... Thank you for saving it. Who would have EVER guessed that the lead plane still existed. Thank you Basler for two things....keeping the DC-3 flying for the next decades and generations to come...and arranging a deal to keep this one preserved with radials. One day i hope to board this historic aircraft.

I've been lucky enough to fly in one of these grand old ladies, and there is nothing else like it. Their big wings make for a smooth flight, and gave them relatively short field take off and landing qualities. I hope she makes it to Normandy and back safely, and remind everyone who sees her of all the sacrifices made during that war. Keep in mind that nearly all the countries involved in World War II flew the D.C. 2 or 3 variants, including Japan and Russia. They were the world's airplane of that era!

What fantastic job done C-47 Skytrain , one interesting thing I found out is that during World War 2 that C-47 didn't have safely belts for the aircrew, it could be because of flying low and in event they had to bale out of their C-47 due to damage they didn't have to wrestle with seat belts to get out quickly.

to my mind the paint on this is butt ugly. no receiver antennae for the Eureka beacon, no dome for the SCR-717 Radar and no suppressors for exhaust flames. I am glad the bird is still around and still flying. It's a historical aircraft but the very least they could have done is paint it correctly!

A big reason why they did it was because a lot of people in the states associate "Confederate" with slavery and division so it hurt them with recognition and funding. What started out as a tongue-and-cheek joke name was starting to hinder them as they got big.

Whilst not wishing to detract one whit from this marvelous project, nor the brave men whom it carried into battle, please allow me to correct you on one point. D Day was not 'begun' by the American paratroop drop. The first Allied troops to see action on D Day were British Glider Borne troops, who attacked and took Pegasus Bridge. I'm a proud Englishman, irked somewhat by the fact that you seem not to appreciate the many hundreds of thousands of British and Canadian soldiers who fought alongside you on D Day, as your brothers in arms. Just a little reminder.
@Bluenose352
@Bluenose352 5 лет назад
Oh, no. You are definitely recognized. As a matter of fact, the American Pathfinders were left out too. But, the CAF is trying to fix the mistake. As a matter of fact, it's still undecided whether a RAF Dakota, or That's all Brother were leading the mass of paratroopers. British paratroopers are not forgotten.
@richardcline1337
@richardcline1337 5 лет назад
NOW you know how many of us feel when we see videos about WWII and are given the impression that the Brits feel like they fought and won the war all by themselves, giving very little credit to the Americans and other Allies that were in there fighting and dying. Doesn't feel very good, does it?

I believe they have it wrong it's not a DC-3 it's a DC-6 because Buffalo airways Buffalo Joe has majority of them that all flew on D-Day and he still runs them as cargo planes so they're incorrect it's not a DC-3 it's a DC-6 because it was the DC-6 that were running Normandy and all that so they're actually incorrect on the make and model of the plane and I would stand behind Buffalo Joe any day because he owns a total of 30 of them each one flew on D-Day and three of them were the main ones that the paratroopers jumped out of and I have conflicting feelings about this because they're claiming this one was the main lead but yet when you go to Buffalo Joe's Buffalo airway videos recently they show that the DC-6 on the anniversary that American troopers went over there and jumped out of it they say that was the lead plane So which one is it?

Not to mention the fact that your grammar suggest you are probably less than 50 years old. Also, you would need to be at least 90-plus years old now. This is just a die-hard 'rebel' who is still resentful about the name change of the Confederate Air Force. Just be honest. They should have left France under Belgian rule. Same language,different outlook entirely. Belgians actually have a work ethic,and abhor politicians in office more than one year. The french people never really fully appreciated the efforts made on their behalf,and actually requested the removal of their wartime saviors remains,because the reminder of their foolishness was too much.
