EAA is a growing and diverse organization of members with a wide range of aviation interests and backgrounds. EAA was founded in 1953 by a group of individuals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who were interested in building their own airplanes. Through the decades, the organization expanded its mission to include antiques, classics, warbirds, aerobatic aircraft, ultralights, helicopters and contemporary manufactured aircraft.
Every summer, EAA hosts AirVenture, better known to many as "Oshkosh" - the world's premier aviation event. More than 10,000 airplanes and hundreds of thousands of people come together for a week to celebrate the spirit of aviation!
I flew on the Connie with Eastern Air Lines as a child, and it was a thrill! Seating in the First Class lounge in the tail was so awesome. I'll never forget it. Just tthe sound of those engines still gives me chills. What a work of art!
I am very proud of having met Burt and Dick Rutan in their office, discussing aviation and composite design. It was me, my father (founder of Malmö Flygindustri) and not the least Brandt Goldsworthy. The latter was of friend of my father since the 50th. Time flies!
My mom just sent me this video; Bill was the commander of my grandfathers squadron the 460th. Incredible men doing incredible things to say the least. He flew the P51 later but always preferred the P47.
Great video! The Constellation is such a beautiful aircraft. And the musical accompaniment is a fine compliment to the flight scenes. Well done, EAA. Thank you.
My father flew the P47 & P51 in New Guinea and the Philippines during WW2. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery next Month. He reported that pilots preferred the P47 over the P51 because of its firepower, ruggedness, and its roomy comfortable cockpit versus the cramped P51
I saw the Memphis Belle on Mud Island at Memphis, TN. many years ago. I'm guessing it was back around 2000 or 2001. It was a disgrace in the manner it was on display. It sat on Mud Island under a canopy as I recall, with bird droppings all over it. Very, very disrespectful in the way that Memphis showed no respect for its namesake and peace of eternal history. God bless the combat crew of the Belle.
