Sermon delivered by His Eminence Metropolitan Demetrius on the 17th Sunday after Pentecost, October 4/17, 2021, at Saint John of San Francisco Orthodox Monastery, Cobleskill, NY.
I’m a new convert to Orthodoxy. I’m so happy that the Holy Spirit guided me to the true church. I must admit that the more I learn about the Church Fathers, the Saints, those who have died for the the faith, the more unworthy I feel. I am so ashamed of my sins and ashamed when I fall back into sin. I know I am a fallen creature but I want to be stronger in the face of the attacks of the devil on my mind and body. I feel that this battle will persist for the rest of my life.
@@OrthodoxTradition What about a genuine islamic mystic filled with the Holy Spirit? Or a truly illumined Rabbi? Or a fully Godhead-surrendered and non denominal religious genius outside of any tradition?
@@malibudolphin3109 I am not saying anything against that. But to equate that saying and postulate that it means you must be orthodox or catholic or in any way be associated with a religion or church is utterly false teaching.
@@M-i-k-a-e-l whell I will not speak I will let the history of the One Holy Apostolic Church to speak why Christ is the way and One church is the path.
I am a Roman Catholic, I go to Novus Ordo. When listening to these, I feel so much peace and understanding and joy it is like finding a missing link. Definitely led by the holy spirit to these messages. The Lord says seek, and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened, ask and you shall receive.
Thank you Holy Father. May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ continue to bless your mouth to speak these words of truth and life. Pray me for an unworthy sinner who is only worthy of death and hell.
We live in a time of darkness and deceit - as all men who came before us did. But, communications technology is also used by holy men and women to reach souls who need this message.
Holy Master bless Thank you your Grace for your words of love and hope. Such an important time for this teaching of the salvation of our souls. Time really does feel that it is running out for more chances to make it right. Your understanding of reaching out to your flock , is very heart felt. Thank you so much for your prayers and love for God’s church. In Christ Elizabeth C.
Master bless, Thank you for sharing Archbishop Demetrius. Your words are both soothing and inspiring. Thank you. Please pray for me, and for the repose of my brother's soul (Fr. Hariton). In Christ Mother Anastasia of St. Paisius Hermitage.
I found my true self in the scriptures. Christ is our heart and true self for it is God in us working for His good pleasure revealing His Son in us. He that descended is the very same that ascended above the heavenly places and filled all things. The first man is of the earth and the second man is the Lord from heaven. Thank you father for teaching the truth. The Lord walks among his people. When the Lord returns will he find faith in the earth?
I have seen the truth of my being which is God. I know who I am. I live in the heart. I am the second man who is born from above. I recognized the devil and when I saw him for what he was he fled from me. I am one with the Father and the Son. John 14:20.
Thank you for all your great videos πάτερ. I was asked a question and I wasn’t sure how to answer it maybe someone can help me. Does the Orthodox Church acknowledge being “born again” ? .. Am I correct to say we don’t generally practice a full body baptism rebirth as an adult because we are baptised as infants? Some Catholics become born again even though they are also baptised years prior. I have been trying to find literature on this but haven’t come across much. Thank you
Thank you for your message. Yes, we Orthodox are "born again' strictly by an Orthodox baptism. We don't believe that one can be born again without that baptism.
@@OrthodoxTradition Thank you for taking the time to reply to me πάτερ. Merry Christmas to all of you and I pray for a prosperous 2022 with hopefully an end to all this current madness or better still the Return of our Lord.
Forgiveness, two things went through my mind. Alexander the coppersmith who evilly entreated St. Paul. If I recall maybe was the thorn in his side? Regardless, St. Paul delivered him to Satan for the destruction of his flesh. Then in Revelations where the very gentle good saints who were abused, neglected, murdered ask G-d how long oh lord, where they're waiting for G-d to execute justice.
@@OrthodoxTradition you have to pardon me as I do question these other scenarios, where as one verse the faith and patience of the saints, where they endure all kinds of evil waiting for G-d to execute Justice. Knowing he will, but ever waiting.
If you were to ask a judge in a courtroom why we should call him "Your Honor" you'd probably get in trouble. Apostolic Succession is quite more honorable.
@@OrthodoxTradition Well, I wouldn't call a judge "your honor" either. However, I think reverence and respect can - and should - be shown in other ways. I would say the same to a buddhist calling Dalai Lama "your holiness". Thanks for answer, somehow I didn't get notification.
