Would definitely say if you’re not sure this figure will replace the MP one, don’t get Ratchet. If Ron does make it to the shelf, from the issues you had with this figure, I wouldn’t pay full price for a white repaint with different accessories if I was going to get it at all.

Saw the name and my first thought was that old vine of the guy falling through the ceiling

Now, there's a very big idea in hobby spaces (like competitive gaming and the art world) of "Fundamentals"- some sort of nebulous skills one should practice as they begin to take their hobby more seriously. I used to think this didn't really apply to toys, but seeing this figure has completely changed my outlook, because this is what happens when you give a designer with 0 fundamentals a masterpiece budget.

Emgo always shows us the most elegant way to transform our bots. Everybody is struggling through that upper body twisty part and bro just nails it, like always.

Save your money! Lol. Maybe check out those 2 for 1 mech invasion mixmaster and scrapper instead….

great review as always! this is such a strange figure for XTB, for once it seems they made a transformation thats fun to do, or at the very least not painful, but those issues in the bot mode are ROUGH. honestly, i'd say if you're on the fence about Ratchet you should just wait for a sale or discount before jumping on him, not sure if it's worth it to get a second version of a mold you don't love.

No. Not at all. I agree on both the odd waist twist and that, over time, Ironhide will be in constant "Throw Up/Barfing" position. And, ugggh. You also have a lot of weight that needs to rotate on the thin windshield for transformation going in each direction. It gives me a chill back to the old Universe CHUG Ironhide in which the upper and lower body is dependent on one spoke that tended to pop off. Bad design choices for me.

It would be a funny skit to see Ratchet repairing Ironhide! I would like to see X-Transbots Ratchet.

Honestly if you’re on the fence I wouldn’t get it. I’m not a big G1 guy myself but I enjoying watching the MP reviews. I’m interested to see what all Ratchet comes with and hear the jokes you make but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. If it’s my money and I’m feeling the way you’re feeling about this Ironhide, I’m probably not buying Ratchet.

Didn’t they notice themselves that the waist tap is too small, how can they not notice that in the final product, they should have change that before going into mass production. It is called quality control, x transbots!

I suggest getting the FansToys Ratchet…whenever it comes out. I got Ron here a while back. I get just about every Ironhide that hits the market…good, bad or ugly. The good here is that he looks pretty accurate in both modes, is MOSTLY solid in both modes, has decent articulation and comes with a TON of accessories. The bad is those notches on his gut, the lines on his chest window and the bottoms of his feet. The ugly is that weak waist connection and the chain of small thin pivot points you have to contend with during transformation. I don’t regret getting him, but I may never transform him again.

Re: the floppy ab crunch is what happens when they ran out of budget and couldn't include his heroic nonsense

I would be worried about the waist and hands breaking. They don't look too solid to me including the thumb

If they find a way to secure the connection between the lower and the upper part in the robot mod for Ratchet and if Ratchet have the same amount of accessories, you should consider buying it

I do like the more cartoon accurate colored chest vs using translucent plastic, unless x-transbots fix the issues you have with this figure when Ratchet comes out I would say save you money, i do find it funny i normally watch your videos to help me decide it an item it worth getting and with this videos you are asking the audience their opinion

I loved my ra ratchet, strongly recommend. As someone appreciate panel lines, I think there is just the right amount of realism added to cartoon accuracy. But that's just me. So I am getting both XTransbot version and FansToys.i have already gotten both Tamara's so, yeah...

After seeing the transformation, there's no reason they couldn't have some extra clips to secure the waist.

I do absolutely adore all the Chrome though! That looks so freaking good! I do prefer the original masterpiece though. Just that center section in the robot mode is just so, I don't know, square? I don't know I just, something's off about it

thats a nice figure. Its a great improvement to the MP in my opinion. outside of the waist connection, its very accurate to the cartoon. The transformations looks like it has some fiddly parts, but the engineering is solid. I think i would splurge on the rachet. Im sure there's a way to fix the waist connection.

If you replace Ironhide with Ron on your shelf, then you should pick up Ratliff. I’m not a fan of the Takara versions and Ronny does have a better bot mode, but not quite enough to justify the cost IMO. Personally, I’m still holding out for a good IDW/MTMTE Ratchet, but that looks less likely the more time goes by.

fun fact! i referenced your siege astrotrain review when doing my on review. in the ship mode, the back is VERY incomplete. in your review, you say “it looks like they looked at the back and said ‘meh good enough’” if im not wrong, which i said in my review, which is now privated. I like the official MP's alt mode better, if I had both I'd definitely display that in alt mode and Ron in bot mode. That is an excessive amount of accessories. Full disclosure I'm halfway tempted to get their Ratchet simply for the Marvel comic head (red helmet/white crest Ratchet >>>>>>>>>>>>> white helmet black crest, sorry I don't make the rules) but I don't know how much I'd actually mess with him and like 90% of the accessories would live in the box forever.

Non-locking upperbody/ab crunch = lots of hope, and prayers that 1 hinge doesn't break. The paint for the back window ends up on the bottom of his feet. That's gonna get scratched. Three different low clearance rotations in a spagetti upper body transformation. That's 3 strikes. I'm out.

MGO get ratchet because that's going to be great for you because you are a great guy you do good on transformer reviews and also I'm a transformer collector too even if I don't have Ironhide or the new ratchet yet I need to tell you you will get ratchet because it will be a complete set if you do or not it's up your choice

I think you should get Ratchet as well.. eventually someone will come out with a upgrade kit to fix the ab crunch issue.

I think you should try to get the ironhide kit for the official, it removes those side panels on the hips .

You should get the ratchet and if you wanted to make him look like the death scene from the movie

I really like that Ironhide but spending another 149.99 for white paint and a different head sculpt. I just don’t know if it’s worth it but also, you can’t have a Ironhide without a Ratchet ether!

If they was to fix the issue with their version of Ratchet that was shown here with Ron/Ironhide. Like a version two then I would probably go for it. However since it’s coming across you are not really feeling this one. To have an another one you would be feeling the same about would be a bit silly in my personal opinion. That’s my two cents.

Needed more time in the oven. Cool alt mode, decent transformation but all for a robot mode chest that misses the mark. Also that ab crunch is USELESS

I really don’t think they reinvented the wheel enough to warrant buying the Ratchet. All the accessories are cool I guess but I’d definitely never use most, if any of them.

I still prefer the original official Masterpiece. I possess both Ironhide and Ratchet and i don't feel the need to replace them with the X-Transbots ones.

In my opinion - look into the Ratchet and if it holds together better than Ironhide get it, if not pass on him.

I'm really iffy on this. My plan was always to get the XTB Ratchet and the FT Ironhide, but the completely opaque chest just threw me off. My current plan is to get both FT Ironhide and Ratchet now, while buying repaints of the XTB ones (like toy or sg versions) that hopefully return the clear windows from the original pictures. Whether you get Ratchet or not is completely dependent on what you would do with him if the FT one is better. Will you keep him for a different display? Then absolutely, I'd recommend getting and reviewing him. But if you would just end up selling him, then I don't see the point. If you have XTB Ironhide, you basically have them both.

Who is in charge of naming these things? I can see names like tyrant, or chaos, or even skateboard gorilla. But Ron, Harry, Thomas?

Good review, as always. But I wouldn't bother. With the hip upgrade, the original mp ratchet n ironhide is jus fine. Not exactly bots in need of an update. They still look good. Imo anyway. The panel-y chest window is an eyesore. The figure itself seems overly engineered for really nothin. Too many gripes. Keep up the great work tho.👍👍

I don’t think this is that much better than the Takara version. The “ab crunch” is awful and that tiny tab not locking in to keep the upper body from going into “vomit mode” was a deal breaker for me. A lot of people will say “wait for FansToys”, but who knows if that will be better. I have both Takara Ironhide and Ratchet, and I’m not switching to XTB.

Not really sure one way or the other whether you should get Ratchet now that I’ve watched the video. Ironhide looks fine in both modes, but boy howdy does he look likely to break in some key places when trying to transform him.

I say get X-transbots Ratchet if he goes on sale it may pay off better to get it cheaper if you are still on the fence of getting him

If memory serves, doesn't your Ratchet have a broken thumb? I'd say, might as well get a new Ratchet to pair up with this Ironhide at least. Assuming you are going to keep Ron.

If they kept the prototype version, I woulda considered it but I hate the painted windows. I have an issue with the armpits too as it just looks like the arms attach too low on the torso and appear hovering off to the side rather than being proper connected. I wanted to have high hopes for the Fans Toys version, but after a thorough inspection of the van mode and the accessories tank thingy, it was clear the accessories platform is part of the transformation thus ruining the all-in-one hopes I had. Sad. That's just me though, I want things to be on the cartoon side and without parts forming. To me, that is the only authentic way to go.

Buy Ratchet, it would be a nice companion for Ironhide
