For some reason Bobby, every single time we get to the part in a video where you say "base pin knuckle" I find myself quietly nodding and grinning. Always have and I have zero idea why. That's all I've got to say. Not my most thrilling RU-vid comment, I admit.
Stuff like turning the windshield just to hide the wipers for toon accuracy is exactly the kind of stuff that drives me nuts. So unnecessary complicated just to hide a minor detail which in all honesty would have made the bot look more interesting if they kept it visible.
The amount of times I winced and looked away from the screen while you were twisting that chest around… Yikes! That was painful to watch. Thanks so much for looking at this monster.
Im an XTB fan, but this piece is Junk...the colors are off, in a way you know it but cant pinpoint the reason. The whole thing is off like that, limbs are kinda skinny, the chest looks like the last thing they focused on, the Alt mode is Fugly and not MP looking...Voodoo toys looking but worse. The whole thing is just a Fail.
Those knee flaps. Seems there is no reason to have them long enough that you have to unhook them to bend the knee. I see no transformation point where their length is necessary. Typical over-engineered XTrans
It looked off in the pics. In my opinion even worse in this vid. Then there is the transformation. I like my takara version with the fisher side panels. Not perfect but good enough and has an enjoyable transformation. Its a big no from me.
@UberNoodle yeah, I'd say that I do prefer a toon look. But also, at least a small percentage can be stylized, as well as incorporate some knods to the old toy versions. It does need to be mostly toon for me. But like you said, it doesn't need to be fisher price lol. Ya never go full fisher price.
@@DamageInc86but the problem w that is that YOU think a certain percentage should be stylized... some want it more... some want it less. Then who decides the percentage? So... hard one way or the other.
I sure hope so. That would be pretty sad if Takara won; I don’t even hate the figure, but how many years ago did it come out? You’d think it would be a home run for XTB at this point.
Accessories are abundant, and absolutely has my interest in joining my MP scale collection just for that alone. Loved my plethora of accessories with xtransbot Cliffjumper.
After seeing the mess of a transformation on their Ultra Magnus (which thankfully I had already canceled my preorder on) I had no hope for this. Though the split-up chest glass was the reason, IMO a terrible aesthetic choice. I'm still planning on their cartoon-accurate Galvatron to go with his teammates on my shelf, to replace FansToys' version. But, I'm less sure after recent works.
Oh my that chest transformation is awful such a tiny and thin armatures combine it with clearance issues and how it has ro float while you working on the legs that's just a bad design choices and I can see it breaking from stress over time. But I like how legs work, that's pretty neat
Nah, this ain't it mac. Thanks for the review. Interested to see Fanstoys, especially as they are doing the partsforming thing you mentioned. My favorite parts of the review were the lit karaoke, "this thing feels like it has been wanting to break all day," and "because it is such a.... Disaster"
This is one time when attempting to be 100 percent toon accurate just fails. Because they didn't realize that windshield looks like absolute shit. Especially with the damn gaps/lines in it! Whaaaaattt!? Everything else is phenomenal looking. Not too sure about the transformation though. Man. So close, yet so far. Love the accessories too. Jeez. What a conundrum.
This is how I wish Takara would do their recent Masterpiece figures. This has the proportions of the cartoon, but the metallic paint and vac-metallized mirror chrome finishes of the original toy. The flat, cartoon colors of Masterpiece figures nowadays just don’t work for me.
I was initially considering this but I’m definitely holding out for the FansToys version. I don’t like that head sculpt. Also I’ve seen several reviews where they express concern with that small thin plastic piece that is critical for transformation.
I don't know. I kind of still prefer the Takara one. It looks more visually interesting and imposing. This one just looks flat and bland. And the blue windows are weird. It looks like a toy but not in the good way of more "toyetic" masterpiece style TFs. The van looks like Fisher Price with those sky blue windows.
Good effort on XTB on the sculpt, but the paint is just way too cartoony for my taste. The all baby blue windows makes it look like a toddler's toy car. Also with how close this is to the FansToys version that's just around the corner, it's hard to justify the purchase. Better off holding onto your old Takara figure for just a bit longer.
Typical xtb breakpoint engineering. And that hinge doesn't look too convincing as well. I think the whole titrating windscreen could have been left out. 12:40
Glad I watched this! great accessories, but still a no go for me, will stick with Takara. I like to flip my figures back and fourth, this one is just to much.
I don't really like the no real windows. I know it would have been too hard to do with this design, but still. I agree the chest doesn't look right. That said, the MP and FT chests don't look right either. FT's in particular is too narrow.
Got the ratchet into vehicle mode and wasn't looking forward to transforming it back just left my ironhide in robot mode one transformation of this mode was enough
For all the crap folks give them, the Takara masterpiece Ironhide and Ratchet at least had a smooth and fun transformations. XTB on the other hand can make great looking bots, but their transformations are pure nightmare fodder.
Appreciate the video man after seeing that transformation. I definitely know this one’s probably not for me, think I’ll just wait for the fan toys, but I salute you for what you went through 🫡
I got my copy of their Ratliff (Ratchet) figure in a couple of days ago. I think it's fine. It's not perfect, but it's good enough until I see how the FT looks when it's actually released in 2035. The transformation definitely looks daunting, but it's not QUITE as bad as it seems. My main issue is that the torso is SO heavy with the entire shell of the vehicle packed in there. Some of the leg/ankle joints on mine are a little loose, so it makes it very precarious to pose.
Neck has more range if you spin the head around 360 to seat it properly. I found that out with my copy of Ratliff. The elbows also hinge at the bottom of the shoulder "block" piece, which is clever but easy to miss.
Proportions pretty decent, but maaaaaaan that chest with the lines in it and the blue paint is not the one. Will stick with the Takara for now and see how FansToys do.
The sheer number of accessories is impressive I guess, but I've had the Takara with the Shadow Fisher upgrade set for years and see nothing here that would make me change out for this
Yes, i think the sled being a parts forming piece so they could have focused more on making the bot mode and transformation really shine. I wouldn't have minded that one bit.
does that waist/ab section lock at all? it''s floppin all over the place. if it doesn't that's it. it's D.O.A. i'd send that back to Jisk with a trash bag ready to go.
