Fun Fact: They were originally going to have Zeus be a swan in reference to one of his most infamous myths. Naturally those familiar with it turned that down right away.
They say the greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist. Not to be upstaged Zeus played a greater trick, not only that he doesn't exist, but to get every major Museum in Europe to have at least one painting depicting his sexual fetishes.
Rip Torn was fun, but anyone claiming his interpretation is mythologically-accurate (besides his bombastic personality perhaps) is kidding themselves… But just like Hades being a villain who is a delight to watch thanks to James Woods (in that movie at least, a lot of them are just lazy), Zeus in that is also a riot to watch.
8:28 Small detail but I love how they refer to Zeus as the god of hospitality. Like, everyone knows about Zeus being the god of thunder and lightning, him being the king of the gods and therefore representing order but I don't see many of his interpretations highlight how he is also the god of hospitality which was a major thing to respect in ancient Greece. So, props to the writers for including that.
The Greek gods are basically amalgams of various gods over Millenia, along with new attributes added. Most gods are like this, so their mythology can get messy, contradictory, and have dominions over seemingly random things as they were brought together. It does help to differentiate classical mythologies from "false lore" of modern fantasy writers who tend to try and keep their cosmos nice and tidy. Like Poseidon is also the god of horses, and Ares god of uncles. You seldom see this in modern fantasy, you don't get a mighty sea god also being a god of birch trees or something too often.
Nitpick: Scrooge does not steal. Scrooge's biggest personal rule is that he does things 'square' as in ;fair and square'. He'll go to any lengths for treasure but he won't lie, cheat or steal it.
And the only thing more valuable to him than treasure is surprisingly family. There are a few times in which he has had a valuable treasure in his hand and will toss it away for family.
Well expect that time when Scrooge stole the spear of Selene and gave it to Della who teleported to the dark depths of the ocean and could only breath with black Licorice
Morgan: Where is the triplet's dad? Me: thanks to a Disney chibi Valentine's Day video there is a slight implication that Della is a lesbian. So I think Della got a downer with the intention of being a single mom.
In a really old canon, it was revealed that the triplets aren't actually triplets. Rather they were clones of their father that Gearloose created when he died on a military mission.
Hi, hello, Greek Mythology nut here. 1. Ithaquack is named after Ithaca, the port city-state of Greek myth that the hero Odysseus (of *The Odyssey*) is the king of. The whole plot of The Odyssey is Odysseus trying to get home from the Trojan War. 2. Storkules is indeed the Ducktales ver of Hercules (Herakles in Greek; Hercules is the Roman name). 3. Zeus does indeed control all storms, but tends to stay out of the ocean storm business cause that’s Poseidon’s domain. 4. Zeus is also the god of hospitality like is said in the episode; a very forgotten aspect of Zeus’ domain, hospitality was a very important aspect in Greek culture. One famous myth of a mortal being punished by the gods for being a bad host is King Sisyphus (yes, the boulder guy), who would make a habit of killing his guests. 5. Selene is not only a goddess of the moon, she was the one before Artemis took over when transitioning from Greek to Roman myth. 6. The giant sea monster in the temple guarding the “Spear of Poseidon” (which would probably be a trident) is Charybdis, a sea monster from The Odyssey, and a daughter of Poseidon. 7. The Golden Fleece is from the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, titled “The Argonautica.” It’s the plot point that has Jason form the Argonauts. It’s also what led Jason to marry his witch wife Medea. 8. Sirens in Greek mythology are hideous harpy ladies whose songs can lure you with your greatest desire. The Romans were the ones who popularized the idea of sirens that are sexy women who lure you in with the promise of sex. Last thing. Not really mythology related. Obviously we know that the Spear of Selene isn’t actually a spear of hers. Maybe it’s something named after her. Like, if you barged into Olympus and demanded Apollo show you the rocket from the Apollo 11 mission he might go “the fuck you talking about?”
All good, but I doubt that you were referring to Sisyphus (he once captured Thanatos the God of Death, caused a bit of trouble for the Hades, and managed to evade death even more after that incident, hence his punishment of constantly re-rolling a boulder up a hill). I think it was Tantalus, who in his myth, fed the gods his son when they came over for dinner one time, and cannibalism is a HUGE no-no in the Greek myths(at least, that was one version of the myth. Another version had him stealing ambrosia and nectar while up on Olympus for a party, which are godly foods and a violation of hospitality; kind of a d*ck move when the guy who is the god of hospitality is your DAD.).
@@felwalkr_94 oh no, the reason why he captured Thanatos was BECAUSE he was killing his guests. Zeus was upset and convened with the gods to discuss what to do. Hades suggested they kill him, so they sent Thanatos. And from there, the rest of the myth.
I just assumed Donald gave up adventuring because he choose to take care of the triplets since their mother isn't around. But you might have a point it would explain why he's so overly cautious around the boys, he's afraid of losing them like he did Della.
"Who knows about the Spear of Selene, then?!?" To be honest, it feels like you have forgotten something from a previous episode (specifically, the Great Dime Chase)...and that's who Della took the "Spear of Selene" from. It's even the first word in the note you can seen all of in the mentioned episode: Scrooge. To be fair, it's probably terrifying for Dewey to ask Scrooge directly. Heck, with how Donald turns depressed every time he hears his sister's name, he's probably not the best person to talk about it, either. I guess we'll have to wait until someone/something else Scrooge-related shows up in the series before we can continue this plotline...
Fun fact: Della and Donald are canonically hatched together from one egg, meaning there are identical twins. Meaning they should have the same assigned Gender at birth. Till we meet again.
Honestly, this is the most accurate portrayal of Zeus. In movies and shows he is presented as the wise king of the gods, while in the actual Greek myths he is a jerk. He constantly cheats on his wife with mortal women, sometimes turning into an animal to get down with them.
So some fun mythology facts: In Hellenistic Greek mythology the sun god was Helios and the moon goddess was Selene. In modern times people often say Apollo and Artemis were the gods of the sun and moon...but that's a little off, the Romans with their big trend of synchronization of gods combined Apollo (who was a Greek god) with Helios and a few others but unlike most others kept the name Apollo when added to the Roman pantheon. Meanwhile they combined Artemis with Selene and a local huntress goddess and gave the name Diana. So really "Artemis" was never a moon goddess except in the modern trend (like last twenty five years) to start calling them all by the Greek names again (yeah find movies from the 80s and earlier, its usually the Roman names, or some odd mix of Roman and Greek names, like you'll have a Jupiter and Juno but then also a Hermes in that same scene). PS: If I found something called the Spear of Morgan I'd think it was a copy of the Gae Balg *I know I spelled that wrong* LoL.
I think we all remember the upcoming episode where Peter Griffin has to take Zeus to see "How Stella Got Her Groove Back II" in order to get out of debt with the mob. He really shoulda listened to Lois more.
3:16 -- Ithaquack, a reference to Ithaca, a Greek island mentioned in Homer's "Odyssey" as where Odysseus lives. 11:49 -- Storkules is an absolute himbo and I love him. 12:03 -- Dewford, not Dewbert, but that's an easy mistake to make. Fun fact: In the 1996 "Quack Pack" version them as teenagers, Dewey was the smart one, not Huey, and the full version of his name was Deuteronomy. 18:46 -- Just a note: in choosing the voice cast, Storkules, Zeus, and Selene's VAs are all of Greek extraction.
Additional fact. Here is the translation of Llewellyn and why you don't underestimate Louie. The name Llewellyn is a Welsh name that means "like a lion" or "leader's image":
I remember when this came out, fans had felt so starved for progression on the Della plotline that the fact it was (on a surface level) a false lead was viewed with tremendous annoyance… But it’s got some significant character growth and lore, some that’s coming into relevance quite a ways off.
Morgan:I'm so glad I'm binging this today, I'm so glad I decided to binge this show today because I get right into the next one I don't have to wait a week. This is great, this worked out prefectly. me:Why do I feel like Them are going to regert that in the next one? Also me:That's what I said after watching season 1 of supernatural! Of course I'm now obsessed with Supernatural now! Loved this reaction Morgan, as always! You're one of the best reaction channels I've watched!
Hey Morgan! I've been watching your content ever since your Nimona reaction, and I love just how invested you get with each and every media you get yourself into! If theres one thing I can recommend to give a watch, its Dreamworks 'Camp Cretaceous', which is an animated spin-off series from the Jurassic Park/World franchise.
[Mod] Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Morgan. Have fun & be creative with fake spoilers! Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!
You mean I shouldn’t tell her about how Donald is actually War Machine from Marvel and he’s just in disguise trying to find out if Scrooge is a version of Tony Stark?
Be patient, the answers will come, this show likes to drip-feed lore answers, so just stick with it Also, Della's husband was a dead-beat scam artist, and that's why no one talks about him
Yes, Zeus is actually the God of Hospitality... so if he stops by for a surprise visit, don't do something stupid like say... see if you can prove the gods aren't omniscient by turning your kid into the main course to see if you can trick them into eating him.... isn't that right Tantalus?
Interesting fact, the actors for the gods are of greek descent. Also, originally the writers wanted to make Zeus a stork but, that idea was scrapped because of.... Mythology.
Maybe spoilers maybe not. 1: Selene is the "biological father" (god stuff) of the triplets, but the Disney censors cut it all out except for some tiny little grasping at straws level of hints. 2: Apollo is the father, and has Dela prisoner in the sun 3: Thor is the father and Dela too the spear to help him in a battle across dimensions, and didn't realize it was a fairy realm time warp so her there for a few weeks turns into ten years 4: Webby is her own parents, she's actually one of the three Morrigan and reincarnated, but Scrooge and Beakly interfered with the ritual so now she has amnesia.
Great reaction as per always. What’s the name of the song that you’d been playing that was a Good Omens fan song? I’ve been trying to find it but I can’t.
It’s called “Us” by Chxrlotte. Its such a cute but heartbreaking song. There will be a reaction coming Nov 5 to that song. Just been busy with other content this month.
