Most guns come from outside Chicago in places like Wisconsin or other surrounding counties in Illinois. This is a great argument for why the Fed needs to step in with consistent laws across the entire country. If criminals do not recognize state boundaries then laws need to adapt similarly.

It absolutely was meant for the average citizenry to be able to carry arms to protect themselves. @@Tmhoop91 First the US doesn't lead any list on list of most gun violence. Also many of those lists they're near the top because of their population. If you go by a per capita they drop down the list quite a bit. An important statistic is that minus LA, Chicago and New York the US drops way down on that list of gun violence even further. Those are cities that have some of the highest gun violence and yet have some of the toughest gun laws. Also the states that you mentioned where they get their guns from do not have the nearly the high levels of gun violence that that Chicago does. It seems a bit curious that the states that actually sell those guns don't have the same gun violence problems as the states that you suggest they are talking those guns to. Also most of those guns are not purchased legally in other states unless they're being purchased there by legal gun owners and then they're being stolen and sold to gangs because most gang members do not carry guns they legally purchased and in mast cases are not able to purchase legal guns. What this all comes down to is that it's a people problem. It's not the laws. No law is absolute. Murder is illegal and yet people commit murder. Drugs are illegal and people still buy, sell and use drugs. Drunk driving is illegal and people still drive drunk. Why? Because no law 100% prevents anything. We don't create laws with the idea that they won't be broken. We create laws to make them illegal. Gun laws are the only laws that people think they need to keep adding to in order to stop the crime. Imagine if they took the same approach to drunk driving. Nobody would be able to buy or drive a car because they've regulated them to such a degree that nobody could buy them.
