This is my favorite movie and I just found out there is a director's cut. And I couldn't find scenes anywhere online.
Howie Long was cut from the movie. I'll post the rest of these up later.

As amusing as it would have been to include a scene revealing that Mr. White had a boy toy in HOWIE LONG, this scene drags on and I can see how it was cut for timing and for not really adding anything to the overall story. The way it was cut in the theatrical release, from flirting at the bar, to the wakeup call is perfect. Leaves the audience as abruptly-awoken and questioning of the evening before, but in too much of a hurry to piece it together, just like Guy.
@igorschmidlapp6987
@igorschmidlapp6987 6 лет назад
Perfect example of editing. the scene adds nothing to the narrative (in fact, would distract from it), and the Mr. White character didn't need to be "fleshed out". The character was perfect for the story without introducing anything else. The record company "manager", doing his job, grooming new talent.

Yeah, Howie Long is not known for his acting chops. He starred in one action movie about a fireman fighting forest fires and maybe some bad guys, IDK I never saw the movie. He didn’t get many acting roles afterwards, so it’s safe to say it sucked pretty bad. He was a hell of a defensive end though. I bet sex would get pretty rough with him. Howie could body slam Mr. White into tomorrow. He was a defensive end though, not a “tight end”. Maybe that’s why Mr. White dumped him. He likes his ends tight.

Discovering during the course of the movie that "Mr. White" was gay added nothing to the story about the brief rise and fall of the "WONDERS ,"so it did not make the final cut as seen in the movie theaters. The movie makers and their screenwriters probably thought it would somehow be cool to have Howie Long appear as Hank's "boyfriend". But the scene ended up on the cutting room floor as did hundreds of thousands feet of film that did not make it into the final movie version.

It's not Beatle inspired at all, it's about bands like The Knickerbockers, Beau Brummels, The Grass Roots etc being grabbed by major labels out of their garages as soon as they had a local hit, put into matching suits and sent out to pull in as much money as possible while it lasted. Gay managers weren't new with Brian Epstein either, that goes right back to the Rock'n'Roll 50s.

The director's cut is unnecessary, but it's fun to get one that is a legit director's cut and adds more than 5 minutes of random extra footage. Here you have whole sequences, subplots, and longer shots than the original. I always liked the one that shows TB Player waking up next to a Chantrelline before opening the door to see the news about the song charting. In the theatrical cut, we only see him open the door, and it's implied he has a crush on the Chantrelline singer, but that's it. Director's cut? The man closed the deal. I'd argue the director's cut inches the film slightly closer to PG-13 than the original.

Its not usual that I dont like the cut scenes and glad because they explain something else just after. But this one while cute, I see why it doesnt work. The rest of the movie every scene is short and moves as quickly as the band moves up the charts. Tom already told the band about Hollywood showcase on the plane and his character was very influential and confident it just makes sense for the phone call and naturally they would appear. So this scene is fun but rightfully cut in my humble opinion. A little drawn out on the drunk shananigans. Felt more like an inserted physical gag act against all of the witty verbal ones from Leo's character.

I don't remember there ever being a directors cut or a boyfriend but I do remember watching this scene because the drummer yells and passes out. I definitely remember seeing that

I think it was an imposter. It sounded as it drove off like a v8 with an automatic.

@@noisefuljoy Maybe so. I know some Jags had their transmissions swapped for autos, but who knows - it's the movies.

First: Rita Wilson was gorgeous… Second: Tom Scott was absolutely not capable of pulling this scene off. His drunk guy act was so over-the-top bad, it was unusable-unfortunately, because Rita was awesome! And GORGEOUS…

Crummy scene. Would have detracted from the movie. So glad it was cut.

@1:42 You can see "Guy" mouthing Tom Hanks when he says "round up your group." I played bass in a pit orchestra for a production of the Sound of Music and the lead male(Von Trapp) did this the ENTIRE show. It was hard not to laugh.

This scene is hilarious! I get why it was cut, it doesn’t really add anything to the movie.

-In the long run, Howie Long just might've been happy they cut that out. Some straights don't mind playing gay roles, but most turn it down.

It doesn't make sense that Mr. White would know who Margeritte is. I see why they cut this.
