That Was A Close Call - Riding The Cavedale Black Trail 

Love this trail. One of my favourites. It is absolutely bonkers

It's definitely a tick box route. You're lucky to have ridden it so clear from other trail users. It's usually rammed with walkers and riders.

Beautiful looking spot. Nice to see you getting out into the hills.

Cavedale is an absolute Asteroid Field. Only done it once and it's left an impression. Doubt i'll ever do it again unless I get a 170mm travel bike as it was just a nightmare. Definitely a challenge and definitley a black +. The gopro does it no justice at all. Good man for going alone, it's a savage trail

excellent ride down - I've ridden that route the other direction a couple of times on my hardtail and I often have to resort to 'hike-a-bike' (which was hard enough as it was with all the loose rubble with lots of funny looks from any hikers). Definite hats off to anyone coming down, especially at that pace

I think you communicate how loose those rocks are. I always have that same sense at the bottom of cavedale...joy mixed with relief 👍

I used to do that as part of a route in the late 90s. Back then we have v brakes and 80mm hardtails. But I always did it the other way around! Figured I would die trying it going down. Some push a bike but what a nice place to take in while pushing! My route involved Mam Tor and the Hope valley. I remember bumping into two other mtbers back then and they said "I assume you are not married" due to the speed I took the rocky trails! It all felt in control to me though. Great fun on an ali HT suss with 80mm bomber on the front.

We walked up there recently and saw a few bikes passing us, I thought it looked a bit loose for my liking. Also, we went to lady canning plantation over Easter to try and get my son into it, I enjoyed it but my son didn’t seem too keen. I think he’s more of a technology kid than an outdoors type! 🤦🏻‍♂️

To add to the thrills is wet limestone in the lower sections, tyre slip is inevitable.

Gnarly run that one mate. I hate how skittish loose rocks like that make your bike feel. Good workout though!
