That first two minutes 20 seconds was very well done David. As a fellow American I agree, violence is not the way to settle political disagreements regardless of your party.
This isn’t the first time that a track Indycar cared about betrayed them. The stark difference and downfall from the 2019 and 2020 Texas races was one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen. Now it looks like Iowa is doomed to have followed that same fate
Fuck NASCAR they're responsible for both! I used to be a NASCAR fan and switched to IndyCar because of how awful NASCAR has become and they want to monopolize oval racing in America! They would block IndyCars from the 500 if they could!
I still think it was a big mistake for the Iowa Speedway track owners to not repave the whole track. The race was kind of a snoozefest with only one groove.
@@johnberger51 just like David is saying they are doing these things on purpose he's not coming out and saying anything why hasn't Rodger Penske said anything that is affecting the bottom dollar right then and there you cannot take that money with you Rodger

Unfortunately a very sad day Minor point to add to the Iowa failure is that the NXT series had a mini 2008 Indianapolis today. The tires only lasted 40 laps
@@owengymnast3687 very plausible. NASCAR had some tire issues too, but once the track got rubbered in it got much better. Its odd that NXT didn't see the same thing. They must have brought something really soft for the conditions.
I don’t understand the Jack Harvey situation. He should not have been in the car at Mid-Ohio or Iowa. I don’t understand why Coyne didn’t pull the plug - it’s his responsibility to be sure that the driver is fit and prepared to race.

Wow David. I'm a really old lady who loves IndyCar. So I watch your channel. I've never commented but I want to tell you how well you did with regard to discussing the events of Saturday. My strongly held opinion is that you did better than 98% of the paid talking heads on big news channels. Very well said very carefully thought out. Kudos to you. Also I really miss real IndyCar.
Well the cup series is more popular than indycar, you can't blame iowa for wanting to pursue the cup series, that would be like a NASCAR track changing to pursue Formula E, it's understandable
They haven't ruined it, people are talking nonsense. The repave will be completed by next year, and Firestone will hopefully get a test that isn't rained out to bring tyres that will produce good racing.
for a series that relies on the on track battles as its main selling points, it should be concerning that the race winning move has been done in the pits in every race except for the indy 500 and laguna seca (and laguna is a stretch)
David you are a man of your word and practice what you preach. I was fortunate enough to meet you yesterday and would like to thank you for taking the time to chat and snap a picture. Your kindness needs to be spread across this great nation.
"Caught a stray". Hmm, I guess there's something on your mind... I agree with your message, we need to find our humanity and sensibility again. Too many are abandoning both, and it'll only bring ruin.
Your comment was apolitical and fine. But I want to correct history here, every President since Nixon has had some sort of assassination attempt. Sometimes it was bombs that just missed, other times it was actual shots (Jerry Ford was shot at three times) and other times it was planes and vehicles crashing into buildings (small plane crashed into the White House when Clinton was President). There have also been recent assassination attempts of Members of Congress (Gabby Gifford and Steve Scalise) where both were wounded. It doesn't make what happened today any less shocking, but the sad reality is our politics is too violent.
It was an okay race to be honest with you. Yeah it was a bummer that IndyCar didn't have a non-TV buy-in Saturday night network race. What a crazy times we are living in especially the current world. 😢
@@Arturo-sm1tb yeah unfortunately I can tell especially since the whole race was broadcasted on CNBC. Luckily I have peacock because I don't have cable.
@@ariansmoviesI just watched on Peacock since it wasn't on USA like come on! The last president's life was in danger and you can't bump Law and Order reruns!?
The way they did the repave was probably the worst way they could've done it. Hopefully tomorrow we get some pit strategy rather than everyone coming in under yellow.
I couldn't login to Peacock when I saw how NBC preempted the race. When I find out how it got transferred to CNBC, not only did I miss a good chunk of the first half of the race, the commercial breaks were poorly timed and too damn long. Hate to think how obnoxious the TV ratings are for this race as well as tomorrow's. I sure hope Fox does the coverage properly next year. But even so, I'm beginning to think more people would tune into Al Pacino doing a synchronized tap dance with Jason Alexander than the Indy 500.
Don't blame the track on the repave. Blame Firestone. You need tire deg...they had that with the old surface but sooner or later it had to be done. They did a partial pave because of time constraints and winter. The fact NASCAR had a good show was because their tires fell off. Simple as that
Dude if Indy cars could run on this track last year there’s zero excuse for nascar to need a partial repave. They coulda ran the race this year and did a full repave
Well for me the failure of Firestone is the tires produced marbles like crazy Watching an F1 race, the final laps the track looks like the opening stint of an indycar race. Part of why there is only ever one lane in Indy is the marbles
They did the same thing to Phoenix International Raceway (a.k.a. Phoenix Raceway). Indy Cars (USAC & CART) kept PIR in business. There were 2 Indy car races a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, The Copper World Classic which ran sprints, midgets, Silver Crown Champ Cars and USAC stock cars, and that was it for the major events each year. You had SCCA club races on the road course, don't look for it it's gone unless you can go to iRacing and get the legacy track. NASCAR has redone the corners in banking, moved the start finish line and tout NASCAR drivers as the heroes of the track. You will not see banner of Al or Bobby Unser, Rick Mears, Johnny Rutherford, Gordon Johncock or any of the other stars that kept the track in business. That's how they work, take a track that was made by Indy cars and take all the credit for it.
Like they tried to do with Nazareth, then when that didn't work, shut it down because if they can't make their toy work, no one can. Fuck NASCRAP. I have sworn off their garbage form of "racing" for the longest and never will due to their garbage. (Honestly can't stand iRacing because their ties to NASCRAP and how every other league is a NASCRAP-laden one)

Thanks for being real (as usual) David on the Trump event. You're allowed to be biased as an American sir. We all understand how blessed we are to be motorsports fans in this era. We take the good with the bad because, the good far outweighs the alternative. 100% on the track's condition and how it's bad to see the situation as it is. I felt like this was going to be an unfair shake for the drivers and teams to get through based on the preliminary evidence of the track's surface not being 100% finished. That was 3 days ago. I feel it's like getting a handshake and a look in the eyes from someone that didn't follow through. You're a good man and much appreciated.
I understand that people have their political views and massive dislike for a presidential candidate, but its just BAD. NOW, I cannot understand why in the blue hell they only repaved half of the track. I mean did they forget about the rest or run out of repaying material. Pato even said it that you can't do anything on the high line cause the repave, which may have been put down for NAPCAR, did not exist. HOPEFULLY tomorrow, is a different deal with the rubber that was laid down but we shall see.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworldthat's what happened?! I thought it was just that the bottom 2 groves were damaged so they just repaved them now to repave the rest later because of how close together NASCAR and IndyCar races are.
Indycar racing is first and then the concerts. Indycar did make a new agreement to race more time Good, Great and I more races on oval tracks. The Indycar race at St. Louis will be Great.
I am admittedly still an pretty new IndyCar watcher, but after watching both last night and the Cup race I just have one question. Why did no one after the first lap even try to find a second line? With how many marbles are produced from tire wear, if no one was willing to even try making a second lane early it is just a self fulfilling prophecy. I don't fault drivers for going where the speed is, but i just felt no one even really tried. I believe the speedway said before the cup race that they are planning on finishing the repave, but they just didnt have the time between test events and the full events this year to do all of it. Which is how we ended up with this bit of a Frankenstein job. Hope they can finish the job and that both series are able to return for many years to come with exciting racing!
IndyCar is too often blissfully unaware of when it makes decisions that not only alienate its legacy fan base, but do nothing to draw in the interest of new eyeballs. It's an intentionally broad statement, but there are probably several individual moments this weekend that a lot of people can align to this feeling.
really insane how hard it is for indycar to catch a break. the indy500 delivers now and then, but it seems as soon as they catch something good they lose it. obviously nascar tracks are going to prioritize that, so are we just doomed? sometimes i fear indycar will never truely recover from the split
nascar bought iowa for 10 million in 2019 it cost to build 70 million, penske did not want to buy it when offered. nascar saw indy car fix it up and make it profitable. they said to themselves we own this lets take over and take over the hyvee sponsor. indy car is gone if there is no passing like phoenix and texas. texas is going to be a street race in 2026
II've never taken acid so I can't say for sure, but it's felt like one long societal bad acid trip for a few years now, and it hit peak freak out yesterday. I don't 'do' politics and certainly am not here other than to say we've had other turbulent, traumatic times in our history, i.e. most recently the mid '60's to mid '70's, and we will get through this one too. Anyway, as for the race: as a huge fan of this series, which felt poised to finally get some of the audience and following the product deserves, I absolutely hate to say this, but it feels like IndyCar has pulled yet another self-destructive move with the mid-season hybrid deployment. First of all I've yet to hear one simple basic essential thing: what is it supposed to ADD to the quality of the racing product for the fans? I haven't the foggiest idea, and if that's ever been articulated I've yet to hear it. What it HAS done is throw things completely out of whack smack dab in the middle of the season. It's tossed a 100 lb barbell on the rear axle making balance seemingly a lottery ticket, is totally arbitrary in functionality, and has been a contrived burden to good racing by great drivers. Palou is clearly taking one for the series...we all know there's no way he screws up pits like this, let alone spins like a top past an apex for no reason, unless something very weird is up with his car. Both quali (especially) and race one in Iowa were debacles, plain and simple. I convinced one F1 snob friend to watch, and they were like, are you joking? WTF is this, a joke? What could I say? Rossi's final words in his baffled, irritated, struggling not to say what he really thought post-quali interview summed it up perfectly 'I don't really know what just happened'. Nobody else does either AR.
Temps in Newton, IA are supposed to be in the 90's today. It's also going to be sunny and humid. That won't be good for attendance. This double header needs to go back to Friday night and Saturday night, not Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. And the start time of the races should not be until at least 8pm local time.
I think the extra weight of the hybrid system is at least as big a problem as the track repave. I was seated just off turn 4. I could see that on both Saturday and Sunday drivers were trying to get a lower groove going in order to be able to set up to make a pass. They couldn't keep the cars low enough on the track to make it happen, being unable to stay more than about half a groove lower than the main groove. Since that's the part of the track that was repaved, it's hard to miss the connection to more weight in the car.
the problem with a double header so close together is that teams are telling their drivers to keep it in one piece otherwise you risk too much in the championship - It’s not like they all have spare cars. So I fully expect a bit more licking of stamps for the next one - also could send them out in warm up to run a high line and rubber it in.
So many things to talk about.1st why was yellow flag laps last so long? 2nd, the coverage by NBC was horrible, cut away from their broadcast announcers while on the air talking to go to 3 minutes of commercials. Why did indycar change of downforce limits and use a tire completely different what they ran intest.4 ditch the hybrid until next spring and get it right to many things went wrong on it.
i knew herta would never have a chance he is on the andretti team. scott said the pit crew got him the lead and newgarden said the pit team got him 80 percent of his position. that will never come out of herta mouth. the andretti fade at ovals when car is never fast at the end and another slow pitstop gave away the win. iowa is the new monaco. no passing possible only on restarts and in the pit. just strung out follow the leader.this is why ovals disappear if there is a 96 percent you will crash if you pass on the outside then no passing is possible. texas and phoenix, soon st.louis then iowa if it stays this way. scott is winning 2 in a row no passing best pit crew.
Hey David, do you think with the full repave next year, a high line will be able to develop, or with the marbles and dust being built there, it will stay a single-lane track for the next few years. Maybe you can ask some drivers this as well
Also, one more question: how come Indy NXT put on a phenomenal race here. Was it because of the tire compound or the downforce setting for their respective cars??? Either way, it’s interesting to see if Indycar can take anything away from the NXT race and improve the racing next year for Indycar
When I first thought and saw the replay of the track I thought they could have very well paved the top corners so it would act more like Darlington with no marbles?
So at Ohio it was dirty air and extra weight, but at Iowa you're going to blame the pavement? We get it. People are upset that they only did 2 lanes in either of the turns. I simply don't believe that is why the race did what it did. There are too many factors at play.
It's unfortunate what happened today I knew immediately they would move the Indycar race to peacock it is unfortunate but it's understandable unfortunately the ratings for this one and the race were meh hopefully tomorrow is better
@@runrafarunthebestintheworldI just went on Peacock and watched...I thought for sure MSNBC would be news because there was actually news to report and reruns of Law and Order aren't important...
The penalties were dumb, the amount of yellows was dumb, single lane traffic is boring(probably intentional), and the hybrid system is showing its struggles which is a good thing because it’s new.
I can't believe Iowa Speedway ruined the track for Indycar to make NASCAR happy when Indycar kept the track alive the last fucking decade plus. It pisses me off so much, a series that drops tracks as soon as they are done with that market (NASCAR) got precedent over Indycar. And I also can't wait for FOX, NBC is the worst broadcaster I have ever seen Indycar have.
@@timothyheimbach3260 They could've done a better job with it though, seems like it works better for certain cars and not for others, and in some cars it made no difference or didn't need it.
Like I said when NASCAR would not remove the compound from the stock cars that was on the track we should never even raced at all with that compound on the track
How much of these on track product issues have something to do with the last second tire and areo changes? Drivers were extremely positive until they suddenly slowed down the cars.
David stop the track had to be replaced you would be complaining if it rained and had to be there for days stop complaining. I get it but nascar had 2 and 3 wide racing it’s not on Iowa or nascar it’s on Indycar
RIP Iowa speedway. They did it to Phoenix, and then Texas and now Iowa. Ruin the track and ruin the racing and then with crap racing it will fall off the schedule in a few years.
That's the stock cars but like you said they ruined Phoenix which was the Indy car and midget silver crown car track then NASCAR went there I love all Motorsports but you should not try to cannibalize any American series
That's what I don't understand and for the 30th brickyard 400 I don't even see a lot of advertisement right here in the city of Indianapolis a little bit nowhere close to what it used to be I'm surprised they didn't switch it to a night race and put lights up to have a night race in the middle of July but I guess we have a curfew ordinance in speedway Indiana
They showed the replay of that during today's race. Herta a had already gathered the car up and was going straight again when the light changed from green to yellow.
yes there is. It's called diamond grooving. NASCAR actually tried it once in the 2000's. You have never seen the true definition of shitshow. The only saving grace was the photo finish it had.
David, NASCAR, which owns the track, DOES NOT CARE ABOUT INDYCAR, period! The way it was repaved was in part to hurt the indycar show by only doing 2 lanes, not all the way up to the wall. Tomorrow the racing will probably be worse as it'll be 95 air temp and much higher track temp. Night race is only way going forward. Much better racing when track cools off.
The people whining about the half repave can’t wrap their heads around the fact that the race would have been the exact same with a fully paved track. The surface was 18 years old, it was coming up in the corners. Are tracks just not allowed to be repaved??? Great video David! Nice meeting you today!
Find me a racecar driver that won't complain about a repaved surface. We'd all love racing surfaces to be like what Iowa has been the last several years but it doesn't last forever.
great comments David. Cannot let one mad lunatic ruin American democracy. That being said, I could do without Iowa at this point, there is nothing competitive there, without crashes. More Laguna Seca, less Iowa.
I missed the opening few laps because TSN wasn't airing the race on any of its channels (not sure why given how many where redundant broadcasts) and had to open a stream of it unexpectedly. It was certainly a disappointment which is too bad because Iowa usually produces good racing.
