It's day 7 of our 3000km motorcycle journey up the middle of Australia!!
Today we leave Coward Springs and finish the ride down the Oodnadatta Track! Stopping for lunch at the famous William Creek Hotel in the middle of the nowhere in the outback. The boys get a top up with some premium fuel, the most expensive on the trip so far!
From William Creek to Coober Pedy we get our hearts racing with a thrilling ride that we weren't expecting, but are rewarded at the end with a magnificent sunset. It wasn't easy but well worth it!
We end the day with something a little bit different, underground camping!

Thanks David. Yes it was, we were hoping we would get some freshly graded road but weren't so lucky. No we didn't make it up to Oodnadatta, it's still on the list for next time. Cheers :-)

I never even imagined there was such a thing as underground camping. Amazing what you guys find, loving your travels.

Neither did we, we met some travellers along the way that mentioned it and thought it would be cool to try out. It was surprisingly cosy. We loved it. Cheers mate

Great Drone footage that really captures the vastness of Australias outback . Novel camping arrangement underground . Thats a must try. Love your work editing these Vlogs and thanks for sharing the journey with us all, cheers.

Thanks Mark. Is truly is vast out there and the underground camping felt surprisingly cosy and safe at night, like it was tapping into some caveman DNA in us haha.

Love the Oodnadatta Track. Can get massive mud ridges pushed up by truck & 4x4 wheels, thdn dry out like walls. Don't recall much bother from William Creek rd, but were heading for the French Line, so not "real sand"!

It’s great fun! I guess road conditions change frequently out there. You never know what you’re going to get.

Well done you two. It's great to see this country as I've never been that far North and the drone footage is spectacular, keep it up (doh!). My Kathmandu tent doesn't need pegs if there is no wind as the fly clips together with the main tent. I guess in a couple of years time those fuel prices will seem pretty tame!
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Chris, we will :-) . The next tent we get will be one that doesn't require pegs either, so much more versatile. Hard to believe, but yes they will!

Great shots...we can't go more than 10 min and see a house. The corrugations are a dance you have to hit at the right speed, and every bike has the sweet spot for that. The actual ride time is small compared to all the drone work...set up and then editing. Thanks for all your hard work. Garth
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Garth! Yes very true with the corrugations, by the end of the day we had a nice flow going so it got more comfortable. Yep it's all the stopping to get the shots that eats up the time, but we love doing it. Cheers

Camped underground at Ribas a few years back. Some guy let out a fart late at night that reverberated around the cave haha.

Great drone footage. That section from 5.42 is fantastic. You really get a sense of the nature of the remarkable landscape. Wish I'd had one when I was riding my pedal bike through there, at a much slower pace. It took me a day from Coward Springs to William Creek, then three days to Oodnadatta. I like my slow travel.

Thanks mate! We love the slow travel too. We're starting to think about our next adventure and we want to do it on our push bikes.

Great video guys. When we did William creek road it was bad then to. We were doing speeds of around 110 just to stay on top of sand and the corrugated track. Anyway great stuff you made it. Ride safe
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
Thanks mate! It's scary having to speed like that on top sand/corrugation, definitely not our favourite type of riding. Cheers, ride safe!

Another great video love the pub did you leave your signature there and love the underground camping was it cold the drone shots are priceless ❤ also where do you go to the toilet there
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
Thanks mum. Yes it’s the start of the wacky outback pubs. No we didn’t at that one. Nope it’s stays between 19 and 23 degrees all year round so it was nice and the toilet block was above ground so a bit of a walk but that’s just the normal camping stuff.

How long did it take for you to master the drone, all well done. Weather holding, my bike going in for 5k service at BJ's tomorrow.
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
We still don't feel like we've master the drone yet. We use a lot of the inbuilt tools which seem to do a pretty good job. The straight up shot was our first try with the way points, which was pretty cool. Say hi to BJ :-)

In your Coober Pedy cave that you camped in why did you erect your tent. Was it going to rain lol.

hahaha I suppose we didn't need to but we didn't really think of that at the time. I guess now we can say we camped under ground lol

Gday guys, just picked up the posts , great stuff 😃. Without going thru everything, how have the enfields performed? Have you had any issues, repairs etc ? If you did this again, would you do it with the Enfields? I am looking at something similar, I currently have a Honda cb500x , but thought the seating position on the Himalayan seemed better for the knees? Your thoughts? Cheers

Hello and welcome! The bikes have been great, we've had no issues with them other than general maintenance stuff. We've done close to 40000km now and had them serviced every 5000km. We needed the steering head bearings changed at 25000km but think that was just due to natural wear and tear. Franco's also had clutch groan from around 10000km but other than the noise it hasn't given us any issues. We don't have much experience with other bikes so can't really comment on that, but most people who sit on our bikes say that they're surprisingly comfortable. My knees do hurt from time to time on longer rides but think it would be the same on any bike. Cheers

Enjoyed it as usual. What phone mount did you use on the bike?. I have heard that iphones screens can shattered due to vibration, and rough roads. I noticed that your phone, seemed to bounce around a bit, so does it have a suspension system. We will be using my wife's phone on the bike, and as she has heard that they can get damaged, she is not keen to use it. It will be located on the left side of the handle bar, near the 2023 himi's usb plugs.
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Ric. We both use the Quadlock phone mounts with the dampener attached. Tina has an iPhone but never has it on the mount as the Quadlock iPhone case always breaks. She's gone through 3 of them so in the end we just gave up trying to use the iPhone, so not sure how the iPhone would handle on the mount. My phone is a Huawei and we haven't had any issues with it, it's always on the mount and still works perfectly.

Thanks for the timely reply. It looks like we will get a cheap phone, for maps, and only activate it when needed.@@TinaandJason
