This performance is from the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala in China. He sings with Li Yugang, a great Chinese Opera singer who usually plays a female in classic Peking opera. He is a very famous singer in China. That's why he's trained to sing so high. This nasal singing is traditional and he is a very famous singer in China. The two harmonize so well together. Li is a Chinese opera singer and because of his high counter tenor voice he is doing many female parts.

There are other Chinese who can do what Li Yugang can do. But, of course, Li's voice is exceptional like Dimash.

I know you already said that you don’t usually revisit songs you’ve already done but Dimash’s Diva Dance performances are really an exception because they are all so different. I don’t believe you’ve reacted to his Diva Dance Bastau version. The other version you reacted to was coupled with Confessa but the Bastau version is by itself. It’s very short and definitely worth the listen even if you don’t react to it.

Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chinese imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash’s rol that’s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China’s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he couldn’t study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥 ❤️🎤🔝 One of the things a I love the most of Dimash is his versatility and his ability to show us different cultures through the music. Li YuGang is known for being a crossover singer from Beijing opera to pop, while Dimash is (more than）a crossover from Western classical opera (singing style) to pop. So pairing them was a stroke of genius. This song is composed by Li YuGang, based on the opera entitled Gui Fei Zui Jiu, which should be better translated as Noble Consort Intoxicated with Wine. It so happens I actually wrote up the story behind this opera as one chapter in my upcoming book Favorite Stories from China. In the “New” version of this opera, Li wrote an imaginary conversation between the spirits of Noble Consort Yang and Emperor Tang Xuan Zong reminiscing over their doomed love (he was forced to order her to hang herself). Dimash sang the part of the emperor, and Li sang the part of Yang. I’m quite amazed by Dimash’s ability to not just pronounce perfectly the Chinese words, but also to produce the tone and timbre peculiar to Chinese pop singers!

Diva dance is the imposible song fom the film The Fifth element, written to be sung by an extraterrestrial girl. Dimash sang The diva dance in the contest in China Singer 2017 also in his concerts in a different way and then this rendition that shows traditional chinese and occidental/classical/pop styles/tastes. Li Yugang is a star of traditional chinese opera.
