Considering the prices my Motorola Edge for $160 used in fair condition was a bargain. It is fair condition just because it had the smallest nick someplace you might never look. Normally getting 108 MP for that price without it being broken or unusable for that price is impossible. I would get the Edge 30 Ultra with its 200 MP camera if it wasn't still a minimum of $800 or $900. I like my Motorola Edge also for not being one of the AMOLED models. It is IPS instead and I have never ever seen burn-in on an IPS display. I got an old Samsung Syncmaster XL2370HD which is a 1080p IPS display and it is at least 10 years old and no burn-in whatsoever. When I bought that on-sale the specs seemed to be ahead of everyone elses too, much like Sony's phones were ahead of everyone else's.

Back in the early 2000's in the golden era of point and shoots, there were photographers that chose to shoot with them because they gave a specific colorscape much like that of film and I think that is a big take-away now getting older digital as well as how creative you get working within restraints. You see people really into film point and shoots and I think getting an older digital one is the rational take on it. Its also cool seeing the technical milestones made in photography like with Ricoh Caplio 500SE I just bought that is waterproof and has a GPS unit on it.

Film point n shoots are garbage It's all about early aught's point n shoots If you are going to waste your time with film get an actual camera I don't get why people mess around like that Best part about them is that as long as you can get replacement batteries these things can last you decades, because like most things of the era the idea of make sure your product breaks within 5 years for higher returns hadn't caught on yet. God bless asia they have tons of places that make older batteries specifically for this kind of stuff because they are so used to keeping tech around for longer in that part of the world

I've owned these back when they were new. Good cameras in perfect light. But awful dynamic range and honestly I would not go above ISO 200 on them. But they were among the best image quality in a pocket compact 15 years ago, so sure they can do decent images.

I use one of these things everyday - I use it for my job imaging accident damaged cars and have been using it for 15 years taking around 40 pictures of around 8/9 different cars per day 5 days a week. It’s indestructible, it’s been dropped countless times, been used in all weathers, left out overnight in snow and rain and still functions and works as it did when it was new. My work have wanted to replace it numerous times but I won’t let them as the small size makes it easy to carry in my pocket. I call it the Terminator 😂

The SD1100 was my first digital camera. I loved that little maroon brick. It followed me from Maine, to Toronto, to Ohio, to Florida and back. If you can spare the extra money and find a deal, the S95 by Canon is a great enthusiast level compact that supports raw and amazing colors with the ccd sensor. I picked one up back in May for about 80 bucks that came with a leather case, sd card, battery, charger, and was in mint condition at the time. It's 10mp, more than enough for posting online, and has surprisingly good quality for what it is.

I have probably passed on 100 of those because of the low MP. Another nice feature of those is a real optical viewfinder. Those definitely help frame when you are shooting in bright light and the screen is washed out. I do love the build quality of Japanese cameras. Next time, I'll pick one up.
@rollingtroll

Don't forget that a 4k screen is about 8 megapixels and it's not an issue at all blowing that up to 27" and sitting real close to it. Unless you are going to print larger than a3, 6-7mpix is more than enough. Also megapixels say as little about photo quality as horse power do about how nice a car is to drive, or watts do about how good an amplifier sounds. It's literally just size. i.postimg.cc/D77k8hdg/CRW-5530.jpg This is shot on a 6.3 megapixel canon EOS 10d with a 3 euro 28-90 thrift shop lens. The issue is really how unsharp the lens is here, not the 6.3 megapixels :)

@@rollingtroll Yup! MP != IQ, not all sensors are created equal. I've been investing in CCD sensor cameras because I love the grain pattern CCD has. I was always impressed with the results, the photos always turned out a lot better than I was expecting. I see what is happening here- finding a cheap plentiful camera, buy up all the ones on ebay while they're cheap, then big them up, give them mju cult status etc etc and cash in, selling all your $10 bargains for $100s more.....Nice business model. ⚠️😁👍

just wanna say thanks for this video bro! as someone who takes photos more casually (after spending money on film and all) i've been looking for a budget friendly digital camera to try out to save myself from spending more on film and and scans.

I love the idea of not having to worry about exposure etc and just focusing on the image you want to make. I also want to say thanks for nothing. I promised myself I wasn’t going to buy anything else camera related, yet here we are. I got one off eBay for about 50 bucks. 😂 Great video and images. ❤️

My first Canon was a Powershot SD700 IS. It was a 6 MP, and the first Powershot to have image stabilization, which is what sold me on the purchase. It also had a little higher zoom (4x) than similar Powershots. Long before smartphone existed, I found that I could also use it as a PDA. I discovered that I could upload images from the computer, and view them on the camera. When I visited LA, I had a giant 4000x3000 pixel map of the area I was visiting stored on it! They're pretty solid cameras. I like the metal housing. I rubbed the paint off mine. I did notice that many powershots aren't sealed that well against dust, and they can also develop lens errors if debris ends up inside the lens assembly or the gears. This camera taught me the joy of photography, and also what features to look for in future cameras. For me, it's critical to have manual shooting modes, a good macro lens, and a flip out LCD.

The smartphone is older than you think. But if you are referring to slate smartphones we use now like Iphone, that started around 2006-2007. Same year your SD700 came out. In the early 00's I used a pda in the same manner as a smartphone right now. There were even pda's with camera modules.

I had a Canon S330 back in the mid 2000s. I think it was a bit more of a thick, chunky brick than the sleek ones that you show here, but still a pretty cool piece of gear. I remember it coming in handy when I couldn't carry around my main camera, and had decent enough image quality.

I've got a Canon A2300 which is 16mp, which is more usable in my opinion. ALSO, you can install third party firmware CHDK which is similar to Magic Lantern, and then you can shoot RAW. All together it is pretty decent and result, in my opinion, closer to film cameras than modern digital. Really fun)

Any camera is a sleeper in the right hands. I had a Sony WX100, one of the smallest point and shoot. It takes better pictures than my phone, no technically better, but with more characte and better rendition, less digital feel maybe. The JPGs can be pushed a bit in Lightroom. Now I have two Canon Mirrorless and a pocket old first gen Sony RX100, but I will buy some REALLY small camera to bring with me everytime, something smaller than the rx100. There are ones that can fit in any pocket, with 10x zoom range (the Sony was 24mm to 240mm), the low light image is no good but that's part of the deal and helps you to learn how to compose. Man, wow, I'm going to buy every really small pocketeable old point a and shoot. Thanks for the video!!!

I have the Canon 310 Elph and didn't even know it had optical stabilization. I've gone through 3 of them, and amazingly found an unusued mint copy about 3 years ago. With a very hip belt case. I've taken top level shots with the older models and keep this one mint. I shoot Fuji X now, but reticent to walk the streets of San Francisco with that gear now. And yes, I still.have an older Elph 310 that works too.

My preference is the S100 personally, or the S90 if I wants that CCD goodness. Shoots RAW, and DxO DeepPrime does an amazing job in noise reduction up to ISO 3200. Snap zoom to your primes on the front ring, zone focus in manual mode that REMEMBERS your settings when you turn it off...it's a pretty dope little street shooter and NOBODY notices you.

Hi, I'm trying to decide if I should get the SD1000 together with the SD780IS for 50€ or the S90 for 40€. I'm really drawn to the viewfinder aspect of the first two and boxy look of the SD1000, but the S90 looks really promising too with the larger sensor and manual controls, but I don't know how much better it actually is... What do you think, is it worth getting over those two cameras?

I still have a nikon coolpix p7000. It is a Small CMOS sensor at 10.1mp. It takes fantastic pics. it is a point and shoot mirrorless SLR and can be switched to all manual settings. It can shoot in raw or JPEG. can film in 1080, has a hot shoe. My dad had a small coolpix point and shoot that did 18mp. He shot his buddies kid's wedding with just that little camera. the pics were fantastic. knowing how to frame a shot and where to stand for the best candid opportunities determines picture quality as much as pixel count. Especially if you don't plane on needing an image at high res at very large sizes.

Good for a specific aesthetic I guess. You could pull off the same shots with your phone and the right filters. Just like you can emulate film with digital. But if you want the real ccd sensor look and don’t mind carrying another device, then it might be worth it.
