I appreciate that they made another "budget" microphone it feels like a nice sweet spot between the RodeVideoNTG and the original Rode Go you tested it against in this video.
I really like the new form factor Rode is going with. I have the VideoMic NTG and hope it gets all the software compatibilities that the new mics are getting for live USB streaming.
Amazing - two years ago I had heard of Rode but didn't have anything they made. Now we have Rode PodMics, a Wireless Go II set-up and just bought this mic. They are really at the forefront of coming out with products that make today's content creation both possible and enjoyable. Thank you for this solid review.
Thank you for the video! Just saw it on Amazon ES and I wanted to know where it stood compared to the VideoMicro, and it is SO MUCH better, warmer and fuller voice
Seems like a super solid mic. I’m currently using the Diety D3 Pro and very happy with it, but this might be a good backup mic or a second mic for the rare occasion that I need it. Thanks for sharing man! 🎤🤙🏽
Excellent demonstration of these new mics, Caleb! The raw audio also just further compliments the processing of your main audio quality. It would be interesting to hear your processing of the VideoMic Go II to match similar to your overhead mic you're using - I feel like it would perform very well given it's size and price! One question I do have though; do the adjustments you make via USB "stick" with the mic when later connected to the camera? Just wondering if the pad/high pass etc. can be enabled externally and it's just a case that they lack the physical space for the buttons. I'm gonna assume no, but would be great if it could be set via the app...
Great question. Input Level and headphone monitoring do not transfer to camera use. Those two settings are only applicable when using the mic over USB. Everything else sticks!
@@dslrvideoshooter I agree, Can you do a comparison between your main mic used in this video and the VideoMicGo 2 fully processed? What do you use for your main microphone?
The Senheiser MKE400 v2 does all of this (except the app) plus has a real built in wind blimp (and furry cover too). Its 200 bucks though. Just offering another great small mic I don't see much about. They're really great sound for their size, I have 3 of them (1 for each camera) for scratch audio and run and gun setups.
I have been struggling with crappy built in and and cheap clip on mics, and decided to try out this mic because of your very detailed video. Is working very well for me so far. Connecting via usb c to c. Thanks! Gave your video a like and share.
Thanks for the video! I picked it up after your video and the demonstration you made (using your link of course) hoping now my sound for my yt videos will be a bit clearer and with less noise. Thanks for the recommendation! 🙏🏻
I'm so glad I watched this, was going to drop a bunch of money on a new mic, but realized I could use this guy for my boom pole setup instead too. Thanks!
Christmas has already passed, Caleb. I can't add anything more to my list😩 Ugh, I want this so bad now after watching your vid. I love how in-depth you get with these reviews
As always Caleb an excellent covering of the product. I have so many mics here that I am not in the market for one but STILL will watch your entire walkthrough. Thank you.
Thanks Caleb. Finally a good mic I can afford and have a professional’ word on it’s quality. (You are the professional just in case you were wondering)
Thank you. I just ordered one. I like the USB-C port which allows for so many uses. Wish it had the furry wind shield and the smartphone adapter, but that is not a deal breaker for me.
Your main mic sounds so good that I couldn't even consider giving a try with this mic. It's day and night. I will have to watch your video talking about microphone to see what's the best alternative.
Caleb!!! I am casting the audio from my phone to a Google nest mini and the audio compression and obviously with the RU-vid compression as well, got to say whoa. Your voice pitch even was effected. I would say this is a beautiful share and insight. You can get a real wild difference. That micro. Tooooo narrow. Wow.
Seems like a great new mic. I’m a bit disappointed that you didn’t compare this to the Rode Videomic NTG, though. It may not be in the same price range, but neither is the Videomicro and its definitely the most similar product in the Rode line of camera-top mics. Otherwise, great video. I’m not a hater. I’m a long time subscriber and fan. Just had to point out what I consider to be a real oversight.
FINALLY!!! I was waiting for so long for this cheap alternatives... Everybody's asking me about a beginner microphone and in my country, the currency is like doubled dollars, so if something is 100 USD, its 200 here, anyway... The Rode VMP+ is 550 BGN and its so freaking expensive for the majority of people... With this Mic, my IG DMs can finally rest in peace! Thank you for the amazing review!
Rode VideoMic GO II is compatible with Rode Connect, the application is quite easy for sound monitoring, effects and there is sound pads bank switcher.
Great video mate! The fact you said you wanna use one for gaming is the EXACT reason I wanna get one for game console streaming. Could you PLEASE DO A GAMING/STREAMING SETUP VIDEO for the noobs (me) lol def need a step by step video on how you would put this together.! My setup is the M1 Mac mini, Xbox series X, Sony zv-e10 and a Elgato facecam jus got all the pieces but now I wanna add this rode mic to the mix! 🙏🏼 thanks man!
I just realized how much easier having the output go to the mic for streaming! Getting desktop audio in stream labs is annoying on Mac. I just got this mic. According to the tutorial, it will work, but we’ll see
I saw a couple videos by "Cameras Mics Vlogging" showing a lot of distortion on videomic Go II and that concerns me. Increase youtuve speed to 1.5 at 6:17-6:23 to acentuate, but it sounds bad there when you move mic around.
Great video like always, I got a VideoMicro a year’s back. This sound a lot better and not expensive, too bad for the windshield. Sound is really underrated when it’s come to RU-vid video, whereas it may be the important thing to put value in (with a good light).
Awesome mic! It sounds almost as good as the NTG with nearly the same features at half the price. Looks like in the future I'll upgrade from the D4 Mini (which I love) to the VideoMic Go II. Caleb, am I correct to assume the rest of the video you used the MKH416 ? I LOVE the sound of that microphone!
@@dslrvideoshooter If the MKH-416 is a 9/10, and 0/10 is the camera's on-board mic, then where does the VideoMic GO II land ignoring price? Would be nice to have a leaderboard you update every time a new mic is reviewed.
I think I may go with this as my first mic!!! My first two short films (out now on my channel) didn’t have dialogue but I want to push myself with my next film and I think this is a great, cheap option! Thanks so much for the video! (Also, what boom pole were you using?)
Looks great and sounds great too. Good refresh from the Rode VideoMic GO, but not yet at the level of the Rode VideoMic NTG. I was hoping to hear a comparison against the NTG too, so to determine if that is still a better fit for those who have the budget for it especially to get the built in volume controls and safety channel. The Rode VideoMic GO II still looks like it would be a good microphone to grow your content creation with. Starting with a phone and this microphone all the way up to having a camera rig and this microphone should work well for most creators.
TLDR Filmmaker did that exact comparison. Mind you as you pointed out it's a fair chunk more expensive so not a fair comparison. I had another comparison in mind which is just as apples to oranges and that's this mic compared to the Lavalier II - at least they are priced the same. Caleb, thanks again for a great review.
@@Bean86 yes but some times you have one and are trying to decide if the other is a cost effective purchase or a disappointment compared to what you have.
Thank you for the overview Caleb! Would have loved a comparison with the Rode VideoMic NTG and Deity D4 Pro to understand how far we are from those in quality and usability, rather than just the micro mics.. any opinions on how this would compare to the NTG?
Oh, wow! I was going to buy second Rode Videomic NTG as dedicated microphone for my smartphone outdoor vlogging. Kinda tired screwing-unscrewing Videomic NTG from the arm and then wrapping it to deadcat which is a really annoying process. This microphone looks like a great alternative.
Hi, very good test of the microphone, I would like you to test the shocks for the supression of the noises thanks to the rubber (I do not speak English, I translate, then sorry if it is not comprehensible ;-)
Glad to see a refresh of this! I had the 1st one(came in a bundle with the M50) and it was… not good at all ha. But looks like they really made a solid product this time!
I have the first one too. It is vulnerable to interference and needs a bit of work with audacity etc. to sound acceptable in my experience. But you can mostly work around its limitations if you need to. For outdoors I quickly replaced it with the little Sennheiser MKE200.
My big question is, how's the isolation? I'm in the market for shotgun mics for my channel because our set up has three of us on the couch together and we desperately need mics that can pick us up with good quality AND isolate us so that we aren't picked up on each other's mics. We're currently using Blue Yetis, and with some mixing tricks, I can eliminate most of the bleed-over, but not all of it. If the GO II can cut out the bleed, it's an instant buy for me!
Amazing content as always Caleb. I have the Tascam DR100 mkIII, my plan was to buy the audiotechnica AT875R. Which mic do you recomend? I would like to record dialogs (mostly interior) and sound effects. Thank you!!
This is way off topic, but I was wondering if you could do a video that explains any tips for shooting video of a TFT or LED screen without the flicker. I have tried multiple FPS settings, but just cannot get the hang of it.
Hi Caleb, Very nice video and Mic, coming from pro Audio classical music recording I am happy for Rode, they are developing really good products for broader mass... But in the other hand they completely abandoned the pro Market after 2018 the TF-5 was the last innovation (one of the best pro cardioid mic in the same ligue with Schoeps cmc64,better than KM184 I own both). They did an ambisonic SoundField by RØDE NT-SF1, it could be IMHO the future of the Industrie in RU-vid . you know probably the mic and system but paired with a good Sony camera and Zoom F8n you got a much more immersive feeling vs usual setup...the problem is still the End user and the lack of choice for immersive headphones or hardware. But it will come eventually, because human hearing it's immersive and not stereo...it is like the cinema and TV. Great videos I like how you do your audio mic solution comparaison. Have a nice week, and maybe try the NT SF1... Fil
