How is the controller? I am thinking about buying it but can't find any reviews just about the controller. Can you sneak slowly in mario easily and does it aim well with shooters? A lot of joystick replacements for n64 controllers go from 0 pressure to 100 sadly so light/precise aiming is extremely difficult
Appreciate the video, just not really happy with how the Warrior 64 looks. Best to run away when they're recommending you sandpaper your cartridge contacts as well 😬
@@kitecattestecke2303 this is an old n64 in a new shelllllllll,......... Mother board placed in a new case lol, plus you can get an n64 with a pad for 40
I think this company is comprised of people that have never played a video game in their lives. Sand paper to clean your cartridges?! Maybe I should use a dremel to wax my car next?
@@SneakyGreninja both have the filter actually. The Wii U virtual console n64 games are even darker. You literally have to put your tv in vivid mode so it will look good.
The fact that they include sand paper to clean carts with is concerning, makes me wonder if they made any glarring errors on the guts of the machine. This seems like a good console for casual N64 players. I ordered a Retro Tink mini the other day to play n64, Saturn and a few other systems on my HDTV.
Sandpaper speaks to the lack of care and research done by the manufacturer of these. When I see things like that I stay far away. This is simply a cash grab attempting to play on people’s nostalgia. Nothing more.
Yeah the Metal Jesus video killed them. "We will get it right next time" and "We thought it was similar to Ultra HDMI" screams to me that they were caught with a hand in the cookie jar
It is , I very luckily was able to obtain an ultra hdmi modded console . But right now your going to pay about $800 for an ultra hdmi N64 . If these two companies teamed up the possibilities would have been endless .
I dont have the Hyperkin cables, I don't use those types of products as pretty much all of the hdmi cables for retro consoles out there have not been good... so I avoid them besides the ones Ive reviewed in the past. I think those types of cables may have their place, but I look at it as I have a few retro consoles... why buy one of them for each console when there are better options that can be used across multiple systems such as the Retrotink 2x, HD Retrovision cables... etc.
@@Madlittlepixel I recall picking up my Sega Genesis HD cable based on Your recommendation and video (good purchase). So you have reviewed those types of products. Sorry if I'm confused. Don't mean to call you out but...
@@themediadead7787 don't mean to call me out but? But what lol, did you read my response? If not here is a part you missed.. "so I avoid them besides the ones Ive reviewed in the past."
Hi there can you tell me where I could get the ultra HDMI mod installed and also recaps to my existing Nintendo 64 I would greatly appreciate any info on where I could send it to have this done thanks
They are basically gutting working N64 consoles and putting them into new shells with some minor tweaks. That is what irks me is that they get paid for stealing the work of others
To clear out the confusion - UltraHDMI is true digital solution. It uses digital signals straight from GPU. No analog-digital conversion involved whatsoever. Warrior 64 is nothing more than analog to digital converter. It uses inferior analog signal to produce digital output via HDMI. I'd personally avoid this product and spend the money on UltraHDMI. It's well worth it!
I think you have a much more balanced review. You're right, this isn't for purists or people that already have an option for hdmi out to a modern television, however it's not a bad deal for people that don't already have a modded n64. Just a pre modded rgb n64 goes for 200 usd or more. Game on!
yeah metaljesusrocks is on crack and didn't do his research before his upload. They never claimed on their kickstarter their product was as good as the ultraHDMI mod either. They have side by side comparison videos linked on the kickstarter and you can clearly see their product is inferior. It's RGB still better than the overpriced Super 64 adapter from EON for the same price that's really the scam here and metal jesus didn't point that out lol.
@@sneakyvee the scam here is metal Jesus himself. He didn't research it or give a real review because they didn't pay him and he knows he won't be getting more freebies from a kickstarter project.
The issue isn’t that the HDMI isn’t as good as it could be, it’s that they said the HDMI was equivalent to an UltraHDMI mod and in reality they soldered a cheap hdmi converter cable to the RGB output and called it a day. For the price they requested, it really should have been higher quality than they delivered, and it should’ve matched their description.
I think when it was on Kickstarter they said the output quality was like "untrahdmi"...not just a "hdmi" output....2 very different things and misleading to the point of it lying/conning the backers.
I’m not a huge gamer. I do play a lot of systems from my time growing up (91-01), I definitely appreciate your and @MetalJesus for giving me advice one what and what not to buy.
Really? I would've thought they were one of the easiest systems to find. I see plenty of them. They sold well, and they're nearly indestructible. Almost every N64 I see is in great condition.
I recently snagged a Tim Worthington RGB modded N64 with 4 controllers, two memory cards, a high quality SCART cable, and a loaded Everdrive for just over $300. I found that to be an exceptional value.
Are you in N.America? N64 was popular in this region and you should be able to find the original dark grey model for $40-$60. Finding original controllers in GOOD condition is tricky, almost all of them have their analog sticks worn out. If you're looking for the limited edition consoles then yes you'll have to pay extra.
@@tubinonyou The Everdrive's worth about $150+ alone, lol. If you managed to get original controllers with tight or semi-tight analog sticks you did good.
Since you have a warrior 64 and the brawler 64 wireless controllers can you do a video about the IR dongles can fit on the warriors controller ports? Alot of gamers have been wondering if we can even get the receivers into the warrior due to the front rim roof edge of the shell. Do you have hyperkins admiral wireless controller? If you can make a video about whether these two controllers can fit into a warrior 64 would be great. Alot of gamers have been asking about this online.
Seems like a simple plug and play option for a modern television which will work for many. Personally I’d recommend getting a retrotink and if your really keen an mclassic as well to upscale nicely from 480p to 1080p.. but I get it that option is less simple and more fiddly. Ultra HDMI seems awesome but is very costly.
Man I'm just getting a weird vibe from these guys. It looks nice enough I guess. Not a huge fan of them takin n64s outta the wild for this. That sandpaper though? Serious red flag.
If they can't seem to find a cheap efficient digital out and de-interlacing solution they should have just RGB modded it and given you something like an RGB pound cable.
$95.00 For their kit looks pretty solid. You get the shell, whatever that board is and it looks like 2 controllers(I think it's 2 controllers??). If the controller improves on that horrible stock controller (I've rebuilt plenty of them and they just suck) and you get a nice looking shell then it looks like a damn good deal to me. Especially if you have a beat up N64 that you can't spit shine up.
@@CoroaEntertainment thank you. According to MLP the controllers are ok so $20 ea for the controllers and the case are still pretty good to me. I haven't found ANY after market shells for the N64. Heck, go back a ways and price out Saturn or PlayStation shells (if you can find them other than a preorder TBD) or any after market shells. Crazy $.
This was a pretty fun video I think one of the things a lot of people overlook about your videos is that you’re a good storyteller. That alone is worth the price of admission. On top of that you tell it like it is. Thanks for that.
It sounds plausible to me, I know who they are talking about as he did the same thing sending me the Capcom Home Arcade boards when he shouldn't have, but then again no way to prove its not just an excuse.
@@Madlittlepixel If you start sending out product before it's released, that's grounds for being terminated. Doing that twice and using that as an excuse seems like they're just serving up bullshit.
What a bunch of BS from them not you. The final version is just tweaked colors no change in hardware so doesn't change the reason people will be mad w it.
I think I will stick with an original N64 with S-Video going into my RetroTink 2X-Pro. At least till I have the money to have a RGB Mod properly installed by someone who knows what they are doing. I don't like the idea of buying a product like the Warrior 64, and not know what has been done to it. It sounds like an invitation for problems down the road.
The Super 64 is way too expensive for what it is. Its between $130 and $150... If I was forced to choose, Id take the Warrior 64 instead of the Super 64... because its virtually the same price lol, and id rather have a console than an adapter haha. But better options would be RGB modded N64, use hd retrovision cables and Retrotink, or if rgb modded you can use the Nintendo RAD2X cable for HDMI directly without any other addons.
I wish you wouldn't dismiss input latency so quickly. If the HDMI mod is what some people are speculating, it may have VARIABLE latency, which has severe consequences depending on the game.
I dont like that the controller ports are sunken in. It might prevent certain things like wireless 3rd party controllers from being able to be plugged in.
I wanted to mention that, but forgot. There are 3 3rd party wireless controllers for the n64 I am aware of. 1 thats released and 2 coming soon... and they all fit.
I have no way to know what MJR dealt with, who emailed him, who didn't, what he was or wasn't told. Thats why I cannot present any of it as fact and just say what I was told but also note there is no way for me to confirm these claims.
@@Madlittlepixel for sure. you can only present what they tell you. Comment was more about their attempt to spin. FWIW I think that its a decent solution for $150 if you have a bunch of these games but no way to play them on a modern tv and no desire to mod an old console yourself. I think framing this as a competitor to the Ultra is the mistake.
Now were going to have to worry about sanded down cartridges on the market. Seriously, what is up with this company. It also just looks pretty bad, its a huge shame 1000 working n64s are being sourced for this.
I don't get the bad vibe that they're destroying n64s. Isn't it the same when one gets their system modded with ultrahdmi? Messing around with the pcb and putting a port hole for hdmi on the shell too?
@@lukasperuzovic1429 well compared to the MJ video, this looks indeed better...but in his video he said that the "Upgrade" will be done after they release the first batch, so now i'm just confused...i will not buy it anyway, not at the level with the ultrahdmi at all...
this is better. It's an rgb signal converted to hdmi. the super 64 build quality is horrible and priced the same with an s-video signal converted to hdmi.
Another great video dude. You have quickly become the best thing to watch on RU-vid. You seem to hit all my interests. Even the crappy products. For some strange reason I love watching reviews of sketch devices. The warrior 64 looks mean.
Abre uma parceria com a playtronic no Brasil, vai vender igual água no deserto ,eu sou um viciado no n64 e com hdmi e melhor ainda ,quero um dá-se aí verde
I never understood why the HDMI/UltraHDMI mod on the N64 was so expensive. When you see what it costs, then you see what it costs to buy a RetroTink2x or an OSSC... it becomes a tough sell for me.
I keep telling people, just forget about the ultrahdmi, go RGB... and if you can go AdvancedRGB for the N64, pair with hdretrovision cables and the Tink or OSSC definitely awesome with any of the RGB solutions. The Advance RGB cost more, but has and OSD with different settings you can tweak.
I think the prototype in my video the saturation wasn't as bad as the one MJR received, as it was a later revision, but if it was dialed down just slightly... it would have been a lot better in the visuals department.
I think the console is a pure lie... they used original hardware and sell it as new console. I'm hoping that someday someone is able to do a real hardware clone on the Nintendo 64.
Eventually I am sure a better "clone" will come out. This modded system isnt exactly horrible but yeah thats all it is, a cheaply modded n64 essentially
@@Madlittlepixel I know the MIPS-architecture isn‘t really easy to understand but I hope that there‘s the chance to recreate the chips for this console because it‘s my favourite console.
@HECTOR MONTALVO yeah i know that, but I mean if it works it works. id rather put the money towards getting games. Like I have a clone console that has nes, snes, and genesis. Sure, no lightguns work with it, and the supergameboy's audio is off, but it plays any game i put in it.
@HECTOR MONTALVO Its called the retrobit super retro trio. There was an earlier model that came with genesis port controllers (and thus you could use a genesis controller for snes and nes games) and that did work with at least NES lightguns, but not the snes version, which is what I have.
