The $2000 Point And Shoot Film Camera || Contax T3 

The Contax T3 was the Sony RX1s and Leica Qs of its time, it was always a niche product and never came cheap, back in 2001/2002 even in the face of the then imminent digital age the msrp was approx. $1,000. It is made of exotic materials i.e titanium body, sapphire crystal shutter button, etc. has features you don't expect on compact cameras, boasts incredibly sharp lens and superb build quality, I received it in 2003 as a gift, took good care of it and it has never failed me. It's not the T3's fault that ppl who are now used to replace their $700 to $1,000 phones every two or threes years start to appreciate a quality product from before widespread planned obsolescence.

Moral of the story... *sell your car*

Really enjoyed a lot of these photos. I had a T2 for a few months back in the day and it never really clicked for me. Always liked the style of the T3 though.

Found a T3 for sale today , 2200 and excellent condition but seriously can not make the jump. I have a Contax G1 with a 45mm which is pocketable with big pockets 😆 it was cheap, results are fantastic. Prices driven up with hype. Leica M6 have doubled in cost to buy in the last two years too. It’s nuts. However it’s all relative, if you can afford it, you get your value in image quality and enjoyment. Great video.

Great stuff man, I can't believe how sharp the lens is on that thing, and great use of it on your behalf. You're right about the hype and demand factor though, and I also prefer Zeiss glass on my Leica over many of their native options.

Carl Zeiss lenses are like butter! Got to shoot those lenses on a hasselblad medium format and my nikon d750 and the results are phenomenal!

I had the T2. Loved it. Sold it cause you can’t choose 2.8. I would’ve kept it for that also the minimum focal distance of 0.7 was a struggle like you mentioned. Definitely need to try the T3 at some point.

another damn good video. Your shots are really awesome. I'm just surprised that you think the camera just focused the one picture in the subway wrong. In the greenhouse there were some shots that didn't look like they were in focus. e.g. 4:47. Or is it motion blur because of the slow shutter speed?

theres plentyyy of 35mm point & shoots w f/2.8 lenses for the tiniest fraction of that price! I have like 3 that I only payed $8 per. They all pump out pretty comparable results 👀...biggest takeaway - you’re fly and I need to get more sweater vests in rotation lol

Would never buy a t3 but I like the camera. I own a Leica mini zoom that I bought years ago for 30€. It's now on 190 - 250€. Crazy point and shoot times these days ; )

the price has made it become a fashion accessory however that doesn’t stop it being an incredibly good quality camera, but i think the Leica M bodies fall into that same category of being a fashion accessory as well as incredibly good quality cameras and there are other cheaper cameras that could rival the leicas…

My MJU ii is fine with me. If I had a couple grand to blow I’d probably just get a Mamiya 6 or something, not sure I’d even consider a point and shoot. Still the t3 is the best of the best and that Zeiss Lens is absurd. Great video

I had a T2 for a while and sold it because I didn't really take it many places, due to its chunkiness. It's beautifully made, but felt quite heavy to just chuck in a bag for everyday use. It also had quite a noticeable shutter lag, which i understand has been improved with the T3. I just started looking online at the T3 and now I'm sooooo close to pulling the trigger on one!

5:42 The bridge from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! anyways all shots bang hard, 5:55 is my favourite, would trade you a print . Fun fact, the mju-II does shoot wide open untill it can't handle the light, only then it closes down. I do miss a A priority and need flashmode saving too. always a pain when you try to be sneaky and the next second you burn the eyes of your prey to complete ashes.

Very good video, I have nothing to add. Love my T3 so much. I was really lucky and got mine 2 years ago for less than 1100€ and it was in perfect condition. Hopefully the electronics will do better than in my G2 which stopped working a few months after I got it.

I have the Contax T3 and when I was into 35mm lenses I loved it so much .. and I still do. But since some years I really don't get along well with the 35mm focallength. I bought the Minolta Tc1 because I prefer 28mm since some time and since I bought it I barley use the T3. They are both such great cameras. I tought about selling the T3. I don't know why but I can never get my self to sell it because its such a nice and special camera.

Love it, thank you. BTW, please shoot the videos at 25p instead of 50p if possible, because the high frame rate makes me dizzy (this is the reason why I can't watch 3D games or movies too, I'm among that 10-15% of the population that gets dizzy, thx!).

Had a few T3s and T2s in the past and its always a love and hate relationship with it; hence I sold them all. I want to keep to only shooting one M body to reduce gears but watching videos like these really ticks me to get one again just for the sake of having one. ahhhhhh

If you don't wanna spend all that money on a T2 or T3, the Contax TVS is a really good alternative. It may be a zoom lens, but it's still that super sharp Zeiss glass! And you basically get a 28mm F3.5 T2 if you just use it on the widest setting. But shhhh, don't tell ebay! :-)

My first M-mount was a Zeiss C-Biogon 35mm f/2.8. It was supposed to be a temporary thing until I saved up for a Cron, but I love it so much, they will have to pry it from my cold dead hands! By far my most used lens still! That being said, the price on these T3s is seriously out of control. They aren’t worth that much! I found them overpriced even when they were still 500€ a pop.

I went with a much loved Nikon 35ti that works perfectly. Not sure the contax gets more hype than this camera. Also outside PPP, it's very hard to find someone to work on these. Here in the US, there is Nippon who charge astronomical prices for repairs. Would still take a black T3 though : )

It takes beautiful images but that’s an insane amount of money to spend on an old electronic point and shoot film camera. I don’t think I could spend more than $600 GBP on a film point and shoot and not feel bad about it. Personally, for the price of one of these id rather get a great condition M6 and an Olympus XA2 or Stylus, and have lots of change left over. Either of the latter 2 are more than good enough for an everyday snap shot camera, but certainly not as trendy, as well built, or as sharp as the Contax. If you’re someone looking to make art and only care about the quality of the images, and the automation of a point and shoot appeals to you, the medium format Fuji GA645 is a good option and a fraction of the price.

I just don’t see how this would ever be worth the purchase, when you could get things that will still work.

About Leicas, it all depends on what your style is. To me, for my style of shooting, the ONLY interesting lens from the whole history of Leica existing on the market, is the old Noctilux 50/1.0. Not the new 50/0.95. The 0.95 has no bokeh, it's just creamy silky smooth blur with no character. The 1.0 had character in spades.
