Oh wow, a wide aperture 50 mm equivalent. Who the hell shoots 50 mm?? I have 4 50 mm for my 35 mm cameras and they are my last choice. For my rb 67 you hear idiots drooling over the rz fast 110 2.8. Unless shooting a lot in low light.. then use faster film,.. I prefer the 127 mm for as much oof background but better compression. But measurebators only know numbers and aren't photographers just collectors. Same for the 80 mm 1.9 in my mamiya 656 pro tl. Then the get 2.5 feet from subjects face and capture clown noses. On top of that, because collectors, not actual photographers, lust for these fast 50's the price is ridiculous. If I want bokeh, I want an 85 or 135 equiv in medium format. And oof isn't the only lens characteristic but is a crutch for those who don't know how to compose more than one element in an image. I love the idiots who say I bought this camera for this lens... Then all they show you is their gear, not their photos. I was at a gathering recently and this 20 something showed me FOUR of his camera collection. Not one photo. I showed him 4 PRINTS. Upside, is they will turn to the next fad in no time and there will be plenty of hardly used gear. Maybe then the cost of portra will drop with demand.
@@Tids_ No complex, just a photographer who has mastered the craft... headed the mentor program for PPA in northern Ca , won and judged pro contests and sick and tired of gwcs, guys/girls with a camera who don't have a clue about photography who talk about and show nothing but gear and claim to be photographers. It's PHOTO graphy, not CAMERA graphy. If you don't take photos, you aren't a photographer, you are a COLLECTOR. I guess they call folks names when called out on it.

I actually think that Pentax's own 90mm F:2.8 can work better than the 105mm F:2.4 if sharpness and a modern expression is what we are after. The "character" in an old 105mm lens is actually optical weaknesses Pentax overcame with years of development. A landscape photographer should consider the 90mm (or a zoom if flexibility is a must)
can't answer for their process but maybe it's helpful to know there are flash meters out there with inputs for corded syncing I have one called the polaris spd100

Skipping the subjective gushing over the 105mm, all the near-normal focal length lenses for the P67, except perhaps the 90mm 2.8 LS, have measured optical performance superior to the 105mm. Considering that the 105mm is one of the few lenses left over from the original lens inventory from 1967, that should not be surprising. Most of the YT videos gushing over the 105mm are made by guys who have never used the alternatives. When people were switching from film to digital, the 105mm in nice condition could be had by the basket-full for $125 each. Now with all the hype, it's $600-900. That doesn't make it a better lens, but it does motivate recent purchasers to extol virtues which aren't there. (Direct answer: The 90mm 2.8 is a better lens by objective measures. Sharper, better contrast. It should be, as its design and materials used to produce it are two generations later than the 105mm. Do not confuse with the 90mm 2.6 LS (leaf shutter), which is not the same lens and is more like the 105mm.
@@randallstewart1224 Yeah the 105 is over-hyped. That being said, it creates a subjective look that people (photographers and non-photographers) generally find enjoyable. The soft bokeh w/ swirl, the shallow depth of field etc. all add up to what is often described as "dreamy." It's a lens with a vibe, where it seems the 90 2.8 is more straight-forward in it's rendering. Optically superior for sure, better sharpness etc, less distortion etc. and slightly less personality, so it's really a matter of preference. Last I checked on ebay, the 90 2.8 was not really that much cheaper than old 105s. The third-gen 105 is quite expensive, but with updated coatings it provides a noticeably sharper image than the old ones which is probably on par with the 90.
I noticed right and left are inverted in your images compared to the video. Do you do that because of the viewfinder inverting it too? I sometimes find myself qui disturbed by this effort I have to make to imagine the image while looking at it right/left inverted.
Do you remember what your aperture was with the RZ67? I had an awesome portrait session and I'm waiting for the results, but I'm nervous because I didn't think too much about the depth of field. I was pretty close sometimes (just as you were on some shots) and my aperture was quite wide...
From nothing you got a lot of strong images. The tonality is super nice. As for the limitation of shooting at f2 on sunny days with that modest maximum shutter speed, maybe packing a neutral density filter could help.
