I can't believe how little attention these are getting on the watch forums. I received mine yesterday and it's a very high value proposition. It hits way above it's weight class.

I forgot to include shots of the watch on it's Tropic Strap, so I filmed a short video for that, here you go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3F327vRvCE8.html

I received my watch about a week a half ago(green dial)...love it. 7 1/2 wrist and it by No means seems too small. It wears great and it feels and looks as refines as any of the much more expensive watches in my collection. Highly recommended! Thanks for the great review!

I have purchased every version of Richard Legrand’s Odyssea/Oceanfarer ever since it was introduced. Version 3 was when they finally got it right when they made the case 40mm and used a Miyota 9K instead of the NH35. But the first two versions were very solid and still good watches. This is a super awesome bang for your buck model and this latest version is improved in every way. I already have a blue and black model from last time so I can’t find a color I like or need with this new version. I hope they come up with new colors in the future such as gray and white and I’ll surely grab those. Great review 👍🏻

Vintage sounds for a vintage inspired watch. Nice touch! Loving the format of your vids. Quick rundown and a taste of what's to come then the full show. Classic and I think hits me like my favorite sitcom about to give me another awesome episode! Cant fault the watch however, the logo, in my humble opinion still needs work. Not as catchy as say the new formex logo. Other than that the value it offers is just fantastic!

Wow! Placed an order Thusday night (Friday morning in Singapore) and the Odyssea came in this afternoon! Fantastic watch and the bracelet is way beyond what I expected. It took no time at all to resize and fits my 7 inch wrist perfectly (removed 4 links). Thanks for the thoughtful review!

Definitely a model that’s evolved well since the 1st Odysea. I grabbed a MK2 years back at a bargain and it continues to run great, looks much more expensive then it was, great daily . They’ve improved from the inside out and when they put them on sale their a great deal and a sharp looking dress diver on a budget now more then ever especially with a 9 series in there. Thanks 🙏🏽 for the review, appreciate the the work! 👊🏼

Another great extended review! And that's a very, very nice looking watch! It looks as though the bracelet is rubbing/pressing against itself, esp. on the edge of the clasp. I recently swapped the strap off of my Lunar Pilot for a WatchGecko Douglas (in olive green) and I see slight rub marks where that strap ever-so-slightly rubs against the case, I wonder if that's something that happened in the shipping/packaging? Nonetheless, it looks great and I too am liking the smaller case sizes that are coming out!

I like the mix on the hour markers: numbers at 12, 3, 6 & 9 and indices on the rest. Numbers bring more character and definition to the watch... o Date / Day, great! it is not needed , it allows symmetry Case design , bezel - kind of Spinnaker BUT the movement, a Miyota 9039 - great - Good price! for what it has .. a lot of personality 👍

Very true Biff - I personally am a fan of pin and collar systems - but the market generally demands screwed links for a more "premium" feel - so I do have to put my personal feelings aside when making commercial decisions.

Ordered after your review and this has absolutely become my daily beater. I was a bit shocked at first by how small it is compared to the 42-45mm monstrosities I've become used to but that "small" size means reduced weight and reduced height, both of which become noticeably pleasant after a few days of wear. I don't bang this on everything like I do those big Seiko divers. 200m water resistance, sapphire everywhere, built like a tank, with a workhorse movement inside. This is a watch you can wear in any conditions and be confident it'll come out unscathed. What a fantastic tool watch.

@TroubledTurnip
@TroubledTurnip 2 года назад
@@WillyMcCoy50 Mine is about +4 and I can't complain about that at all! Also yesterday I compared this watch to my friends Seamaster 300m, which is 42mm. Interestingly, the dial face is exactly the same size on that and the RLG despite the big size difference. RLG has just reduced that big chunky bezel to something thinner and, imo, more classy. I was surprised to see that you're losing zero actual dial space here even at 39mm. Honestly, I have absolutely zero complaints about this RLG watch. I'm consistently shocked by how good it is.

New subscriber here: Good video covering a brand I learned of from Jody @ JOMW. I’m not one for micro brands (other than 3 Islander’s) but I was looking for something new & inexpensive, and most importantly-sub 40mm. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and have really been gravitating toward sub 40mm watches with a thickness of below 12mm. I prefer how they fit. I purchased the black Odyssea you reviewed. I’m really impressed with the secure packaging and finish of the watch. I think a watch with applied lumed markers, sapphire bezel & crystal-and a Miyota 9000 series movement at $429 is quite a deal. The bezel action is one of the best I’ve handled. I haven’t bothered to size the bracelet, opting instead to wear it on the rubber strap for the summer months. I think anyone in the market for a micro brand diver-style watch would be very happy with this latest version of the Odyssea (If they’re ok with 39mm!).

You are correct, it is a very retro attractive watch. The problem for me is that I purchased a RLG compressor a few months ago and am disappointed with it. For one thing the inner bezel is very hard to turn and the crystal is supposedly sapphire. I have only lightly used it a couple times and the crystal is scratched. I am hesitant to throw away good money after bad. I may go for the San Martin 6200 instead. To bad because I really like the looks of this watch.

There were none much over 36mm (an exception being the Italian Panerai who were aligned with the 5th Column). 40mm+ were the advent of marketing teams appealing to the crowd. An interesting watch. In a way it has a very austere, almost Mil-Spec design, however the case finishing is far from austere. It looks like a beautifully finished & faceted piece with a great looking bracelet. The mov't is fantastic too. The case back is great, the new case design with the brushed mid section is great, the size is great (although for self-serving reasons I'd like to see longer lugs & a 48mm wing-span) but there's a few things I don't like. The new RLG branding looks ᴠᴇʀʏ amateurish. If you look at Baltic's & Lorier's branding compared to this? It's on a different level. In all other aspects they compete directly with those brands, but the way RLG market themselves cheapens the brand. And that clasp. Any micro-brand using off the shelf clasps absolutely should be offering something akin to glide-lock. But it's a nice looking watch, just not something I'd actually buy.

I don't know if anybody has put 2 and 2 together yet but this seems, to me anyway, to clearly be coming from the same people behind San Martin. A lot of clues here: the hexagonal logo....which just so happened to change right around the same time san martin changed to their hexagonal logo, the clasp is clearly a san martin clasp to the T. The "version" changes are very similar to how the San Martin factory improves their designs little by little over time. I don't think that's a knock against the brand, but just kind of re-orients your perspective about how much of a "value" this watch is when similar San Martin watches are selling for cheaper.

It's seems to be a great watch. Actually I'm intense looking for a watch in the BlancPain Bathyscaphe design. So far the Baltic Aquascaphe seems to be the closest model and honests hommage. The RLG appears geeat too. But what triggers me heavy is the branding. The logo looks too much like a ripp off of TagHeuer, same as "San Martin" did. I also don't like that they used also a francophone name, to appear more "european". So the branding is a kind of akward to me. Don't get me wrong. The branding is usually secondary to me as long it is authentic and self confident and if it's possible for me to identify myself with that brand. While the Odyssee uses RLG as the abbreviation, the "Oceanfarer" uses RL Richard LeGrand and trying to appear like the JB Blancpain Which is ok, but the inconsistence of the branding is little disturbing. With that said, I will anyway take a shorter look to the Oceanfarer as the branding doesn't looks like TagHeuer :-). Thank you anyway for this recommendation. May be I will check it out.

Stick with the title lol, the bathyscaphe is still techinically a fifty fathoms. That said, I think the predecessor, the oceanfearer look much more like the bathyscaphe due to the flatter angular look, while the odyssey look like the ff with a slimmer bezel.

I prefer older logo, that new hexagonal logo is like on San Martin, it doesnt look good imo.

Can you link me to a watch with a Miyota 9000 series movement that is cheaper?
@razvanon
@razvanon 3 года назад
@@kiwimark3875 seems like this guy doesn't allow links on comments but check out watch geek for a mileneal prestige for $200 and jody from just one more watch has some chinese reviews on $95 watches. The movement itself doesn't cost too much
@kiwimark3875
@kiwimark3875 3 года назад
@@razvanon you need to do a proper comparison. Agree that the mileneal prestige is great value with the Miyota but it's a simple dress watch, no bezel, let alone Sapphire bezel, no C3 lume, no sapphire crystal, cheap leather strap instead of stainless bracelet. Big fan of Jody but in the sub $300 price range it's normally NH35 movements and those are def cheaper than Miyota 9000 series.

@@kiwimark3875 jody did a review of a crappy chinese watch that has a 9015 movement or so. I mean is doable ,that was my point
@kws4e
@kws4e 3 года назад
No, I honestly don't think it is, and I'm normaly very sceptic when it comes to pricing of a watch. The cheapest good divers with a 9015 start at arround $300, not going to count those Sub Clomages from Tisell or something. because they dont offer an own design. For a watch with a totally own design, with a saphire Bezel, with all those specs and that level of finishing, the price actually is really good in my opinion. You can't just always compare everything with the cheapest stuff available.

I have a feeling these micro's with great specs and prices are all made in China. I personally would like you and other reviewers to mention where the watches you showcase are made. Swiss, Japanese and China. See the issue?

The issue is I want to know where the watches I purchase are made, and especially if they are being made in China.

you're totally off about that. Psychologically, a person who buys something tends to be more forgiving of a product's faults and emphasize the good in an effort to self-justify the purchase. If anything, the review of a product thats been gifted will be more objective

Reflections on the glass aren't "cool" at all - they ruin legibility. I wouldn't give ten bucks for such a watch. Let alone more.
