Mosquitoes Solution: Mosquitoes are attracted by smell, and They hate the limony ones, In France pharmacie buy "essence of citronelle "and put a drop in areas where mosquitoes bite the most, AND buy some GREEN CLAY, They have it in powder or in Paste format, since you are mixing enough thing during the day, I would recommand to buy it in paste (in a Tube) now as soon as you have a hitchy spot, take a little TINY bit of the green clay paste and apply it. The hitching will stop immediately, leave the clay in place do not remove it it will dry a drop on its own NO MORE HITCHING

What a great episode!!!!! Also shout out to Bob for giving you his professional feedback.. sure does help knowing that how you have chosen to fix the problem is going to work out great..the concrete keel looks like it did the day it was put in the boat..if the concrete was rotten it would be flaky and the pieces that fell off would turn to powder.. thanks for sharing your journey with us... in the next episode are we going to see the new bikini being modeled??? 😂.. I don't think I would get much done working around Stewart because he's a comedian and would have me laughing.. you would think that the boat yard would cut you 2 a deal for power service since you're there all year long and you're resurrecting a boat that was just rotting away in their yard for years.. and shout out to Simmon for the beautiful handrails!!! Sure would be nice if you could get someone like him to come stay awhile when you start the redoing of the interior. .

Just going through your excellent channel because there's lots of stuff relevant to the work I'm doing on my boat as well. Like the surveyor I didn't think that thicker water proof epoxy into the keel area was a good idea. I thought a much runnier type of epoxy would work better but it turns out what you used worked like a treat. Good job!
@bigpistol2
@bigpistol2 11 месяцев назад
Not sure what the financial difference is but what about ripping away the probably osmosis glass down to the concrete, let the concrete dry and epoxy/glass the keel back in? Guaranteed no more issues if you let epoxy/other product soak into the concrete to make it water tight. Water will get in there whether its through a hairline crack from bottoming out or through the top when your water tank decides to leak. Might cost more but compared to waiting for moisture to completely disappear from something it could end up being cost effective. Scottish bloke here so water and money....... 🤣😉🤣

I assume that the concrete ballast is poured after the hull is complete if so the bonding of fresh concrete to fibreglass is not always sound also conrete does continue to shrink over time whilst the steel reinforcing does not, the thickness of your fibreglass skin is as Bob said super thick compared to modern boats. Your on the right track and stuff the armchair critics

That was a terrific and reassuringly positive episode to watch. I am so glad that you managed to find someone who knows what they are talking about to give you a first hand assessment of your keel condition (as opposed to all of us too-far-away-screen-view-only-opinionated-watchers-on) and I am also so glad that he was so kind, reassuring and supportive in his feedback and suggestions. (And just quietly I was really pleased to see those holes appear giving you a clearer view of what is going on....😊). And I don’t think that perhaps you “got lucky” with the way you were already going about the repair - it’s pretty obvious that your naturally practical, considered and positive "can-do" approach to this boat means that you have an inherently good grasp of what will work and what won’t work either way, and I couldn’t imagine you wasting money on a “guess” as to what might work. So once again, well done the pair of you, I am loving your progress!!!! And thank you for the short and pleasant tour around your old stomping ground - that was a nice little treat to start the vid’. Does the need to repair the heater suggest that you’ll be staying there to work through this winter instead of going back to the ski fields?

Hello again, I am glad the surveyor thinks the keel will not be a problem after you finish working on it. And I am curious about why you don't want to use the big white tube running throughout the boat for distribution of heating and air conditioning. Wasn't it designed for that purpose? Since I don't know anything about boats I am just asking. Ok keep up the good work. Geo

Are you thinking of taking out the cabin sole? I was thinking, since the water in the keel came from inside the boat, if you were to get to the top of the keel maybe you could pour the epoxy from the top and let gravity do the work? Also then you could drill fewer holes and use them as confirmation the epoxy reached there rather than as injection sites?

That's the plan! We'll finish off the outside and then get another pot of this epoxy and pour it in. Just keep filling with epoxy, hopefully it doesn't make it worse... Cheers for watching 😃

I just discovered your RU-vid channel. What an amazing and brave project! Love your dedication and love you both put in this boat. That’s a lucky boat to have fond you! We have a sailingboat ourselves that askes quote some work. This winter will be our fouten working on it, and we have planned to get the antifouling off and see if the gelcoat is allright. It was absolutely helpfull to see that you drilled holes in the keel, to let the water out. We did that last winter with the ridder and lots of water came out. This winter we are going to open the rudder up, remove wet and rotten stuff and put it together again. I am curieus what you will do with the little holes in the keel and te gap between the ballast and the hull. What I was wondering: isn’t there rainwater between the hull and the ceiling of your cabin? On our boat we replaced the woorden handels aa well and also the fresh air holes, because of lots of rainwater coming into the cabin. To be able to do that we unfortionally had to remove the ceiling. All the wood that held the ceiling seemed rotten and was covered in black mold. We are going to rebuild the ceiling this winter. Wish you all the luck and keep up the good work!

My thoughts, too. Don't know what they are (best guess solanum family of some sort, I don't live in Europe), but definitely not tomatoes. Put a plant recognition app on your phone to find out what they are. Definitely don't sample them without knowing what they are and ensuring they are safe.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. We had boats in Chichester harbour for 15 years. First, a Cornish Crabber in Dell Quay. We used to pass a Cornish Crabbers 30' Pilot Cutter on its mooring, gradually looking more unloved. Then one day, it was advertised for sale in Haynes boatyard, Itchenor. Taking a closer look, we fell in love. We kept "Jenny Wren" for 10 years in Birdham Pool, in the years before it was taken over and modernised. We lived in Birdham village so spent most weekends and holidays pottering. We sailed far and wide in the English Channel but would often spend a night dried out against Bosham Quay which, from your film, hasn't changed a bit. We sailed all year round and loved waking up on a frosty morning anchored in one of the creeks. Many thanks again and good to see the progress that you are making. Stay positive.

Hi guys - enjoying your vids, your ambition and commitment - and your relaxed, charming presentation style! Your calm persistence is an example to the world. As is the low carbon footprint of your 'recycled' boat! A question: I'm obviously a bear of little brain - as I can't work out the sequence of your vids/boats/adventures. If you have a moment, would it be a good idea to put up a list of videos, in the order in which the content occurred, e.g. under 'About'? I ask this as the dates on which you posted don't seem to reflect the real time when each video's content took place. So I can't get a picture of what - and which boat - happened when. Or is my RU-vid illiteracy showing - and the real time sequence is already visible somewhere? Thanks for sharing your story, keep up the good work- and keep on enjoying it!

Hiya, We're glad you enjoy the videos. We started making videos when we had Wayzgoose, then found an abandoned boat in France. Sold Wayzgoose and are now on this huge refit project. The videos are numbered if that helps. Feel free to contact us via social media... Cheers for watching 🙂

My heart sank when you said that you had a marine surveyor coming! I was however so heartened by Bobs common sense down to earth reporting and advice. You have some issues. Most boats have some issues. Does it mean that they are unfit for purpose? Of course not. Now hopefully you will have more faith in your gut feelings. I have used underwater curing two pack epoxy paint repair systems for offshore wind turbine foundations with excellent results and your cored samples should give you great confidence. Go well both and Bob too!❤

Such great news! I 'm happy for you guys! And getting that confirmation that your doing the right thing must be so nice! It's the doubt that I struggle with most of projects like these. Then once you get to the end and see the result you wonder why you agonised over it so much. Now you can forge ahead knowing it's not wasted effort! I'm very impressed by that epoxy btw, I was thinking it would struggle to spread very far from the injection site but that core sample looked amazing!

In the 1970s, something we called environmental plastic was introduced, which was ordinary polyester with paraffin oil added to delay the release of styrene and get a lower measured value in the room. If you did not sand between layers, loosening could occur, i.e. delamination. What you can do if the area is dry and not full of water is to buy 0.3l empty caulking gun sleeves and mix polyester and eurosil and pump in. First drill 6mm holes in the edges of the area you think the delamination is and pump until it creeps out, put in a wooden dowel. Then, when it has hardened, sand out a bowl of fiberglass mat over each hole and laminate.

Great news for the project ... now that you know that the method is sound to complete the repair, I have a suggestion about how to streamline the process. Instead of using the "hoover" to supply the suction, approach the repair more like a vacuum bagging project. Use an actual vacuum pump to supply significant suction toward the bottom of the keel with a flange to attach over the hole at the bottom of the keel with a small ball valve on it. At the hole near the top of the keel add another flange with a small ball valve, fill a large funnel with the epoxy and attach to the ball valve. With the top valve closed and bottom open turn on vacuum pump until it sucks all of the air out, close the ball valve on the bottom -- now the inside of the keel is in vacuum, so open the ball valve at the funnel connection and all of the epoxy will be drawn into the keel. Just close the ball valve before you run out of epoxy as it will also pull in air too, if you run out of epoxy in the funnel.

Great tip. We'll discuss this method, it would have been good to know before we started. So many things we could have done better but that's the game we play. At least if we do another project... Cheers for watching 😃

Like the Great news and am impressed with all that you are doing, sure is Nice to get lucky eh? What rig are you planning on using? I asked because I was thinking you are missing a Mast or did you get one.
@SailingSeabird
@SailingSeabird 11 месяцев назад
Hiya, We have the original mast. Basic sloop rig, we'll add a removable solent (for emergencies) Stalok fittings with 8mm wire, a backstay tensioner and a furlex type c for the genoa. Lewmar synchro blocks, 6:1 mainsheet, 4:1 for the kicker. Lewmar wavegrip winches, 30s on the mast (I hope they fit) 43s for the genoa sheets and an 8 on the boom for the reefing lines. I hope this helps... Cheers for watching 😃
