DGOfTheCentury Ha good one but nope, according to relativity everyone else would age faster rather than it effect his relative time quantum. I always liked the Carl Sagan version, where he explained that it would take something like 40 light years to travel to and back from the center of our galaxy assuming one could reach light speed. But when said voyager returned home 40 years later, 30,000 years would have lapsed on earth. Now that is something to wrap your head around. Light speed doesn't sound so cool without the things you care about the most going with you, now does it? What we need to ponder is not physical speed because of such draw backs, but how to fold space and time into a worm hole for distant travel, which should effectively rule out the relative time consequences. Smoke on that one for a minute.
Incorrect. the car is moving a lot at those speeds and the car needs to be steered sometimes even up to 90 degrees! ps I know it’s a 8 year old comment lol
We come here to see a 1000 mph car and get 3 1/2 minutes of a special effects animated promotional video? If I want to watch a video game, I'll play a video game. Why is this on RU-vid?
I really do hope this concept works. I really do. But it looks mindbogglingly complicated. Compare it to Thrust SSC which was 2 far simpler Jet engines, thats it. This has got 1 jet from a Eurofighter, a rocket engine and all the gear that goes with it and a Cosworth V8 (by the looks of it). Just too many things to go wrong here. The reason Thrust Succeeded was because it was simple. That being said, I wish them all the best. :)
headshooter44 Yep, and from what I remember from the initial interview when this plan was released, they said the engine that ONLY pumps fuel in this car, is equally powerful to a F1 car engine :) So you have about umm... 800hp engine to pump your fuel.... modest :D
sfprivateer The F1 rocket engine used in the Saturn first stage had a 55,000 HP turbine driving the fuel pump...and there were five F1 engines on the rocket
I so much wish I could be in South Africa in October, although organisers are saying they are not sure we will be able to see the test run on D day, which would not be good for me anyway
***** the car was built quite a while ago, they just haven't run it yet because they don't want the driver to die so they're doing tests. As much as everyone wants to see it go they need to make sure they haven't accidentally made a missile.
of course it would... obviously you've thought about it much more and much deeper than those unqualified kids working on the project in their granddad's attic...
I'm wondering when we will cease to be able to find and/or or prepare a smooth enough surface that is large enough to be usable for such speeds. We go after 1000 mph and then what? Start using nothing but mach numbers like aircraft? There has to be a point of no return somewhere.
Automobile or Car: A road vehicle, typically with four wheels, powered by an internal combustion engine or electric motor and able to carry a small number of people. this is a car!
SPACE DYNYMITE "Going to happen in real life ..." Well, until it actually happened in real life, it's all FICTION. My point (which apparently didn't get across at all), was that anyone can make an fancy animation and say "our car/plane/whatever will perform like this-and-this ... intentions and ambitions is very nice, but it's not a record breaking car until it ACTUALLY EXISTS ! Putting a "Guinness World Record" stamp on a movie with a computer generated car ... am i really the only one who is annoyed by that?
You might also wreck the car. It isn't built to take a hit like "road-worthy" cars, and at those speeds, a human body would do some damage. All it would take is to throw off the driver for a fraction of a second, and make it leave the road. The car might achieve liftoff trying to offroad.
Get Roasted It won't needs F1 level of downforce, but still need enough of it to conquer uneven surface. I suppose those engineers are smart enough to do their maths and find out the right combination. And the speed of this particular vehicle has very little to do with "grip". It's not propelled by the wheels scrubbing the ground, nor does it slow down by brakes on the wheels.
Bill CZY well yeah the track would be clean, but there is a possibility that there may be like a small rock the size of someone's hand, left out. But I'm not saying it will happen, just possibly, since the distance to cover is very large
"Fake fake fake, show this show that." Fucking hell you guys wouldn't know if something was real even if it fell on your face and started wiggling. Theses guys beat the world record twice already, do you think they don't know what they're doing and won't accomplish it again? Wanna see the real car, go to the website.
Check out the recent in depth look at the vehicle's construction on the Chris Harris On Cars channel. They're making an attempt this year and also next year. The Cosworth engine has been tossed in favor of a blueprinted dry sump Jag F-Type engine to serve as the "fuel pump" more or less.
that’s not the fastest car in the world, in fact the Thrust SSC is the fastest topping out at 750 or 700 mph and it’s a big boy 2 thrusters instead of one, no offence to say tho but I recon you should give it to the owner of thrust ssc or the driver of thrust ssc bc it still hold the forgotten record today and the forgotten world record should become a new one
when they broke the sound barrier they said they where 20 miles an hour away from the car taking off you gotta have balls of steel to max that care out hoo yaa..
This video is now slightly out of date as the Cosworth F1 race car engine planned to be the fuel pump for the rocket was found not to be up to the job. It has been replaced by a one off special built by Jaguar.
The B-58 Hustler, XB-70 Valkyrie, F-111, and B1-A all had encapsulated ejection compartments where pilot's seats were inside pressurized capsules. If they could do it decades ago then surely it can be done today.
@Techno It uses a combustion engine, its a CAR, it doesn't specify how an engine is needed, it just says (Keyword) "powered" by one, which this is, it uses a Combustion engine in order to push the oxidizer and fuel through the rocket engine, which in turns thrusts it forwards. I know its a two year old comment, but this idiocy is one of the reason the planet is doomed to fall to retardation.
if you bothered reading the description you would see that it has it first test ride in south afrika, 2014. This is clearly just a animation as you can see, and the 1000mph is a prediction.
Cherry Voodoo Andy green drives the land speed record car. Cause he has drove the thrust ssc witch is the fastest land speed record car so he has experience
