Hopefully you get some great ideas on how to setup up your ham shack from this video.
Does the perfect ham radio shack really exist? I'm still not entirely pleased with mine myself, but as always with these things, it's a work in progress.

Just in the process of organising my shed atm; Over the years I've collected so much junk it amazes me trying to sort and categorize things. I'd love to cull a few things as I have shelves full of electrical and electronic parts. Also why I force myself not to go to hamfests as I end up with more junk lol

Nice vid Hayden, busily finishing off my own shack in our family garage; a space I share with my wife's jewelry projects and my two daughters ad hoc projects. No space for vehicles hi hi. I like your Shure mic setup, have plans for one of these as well. I also agree that you need a separate workbench for projects/repairs etc as it is nice to be able to leave 'stuff' out so that you can work on it the next day etc without packing it away and losing your train of thought/progress. Much easier to carry on where you left off.
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX 2 года назад
100% agree Stew. My old shack I had access to a dedicated workbench in my garage. Sadly I no longer have that setup - but it was excellent, as you say for leaving projects and coming back to them. Thanks for watching 👍

Had a win a few weeks ago. I scored 2 Rittal 12RU rack cabinets free of charge. Plan is to buy a 2.4 x 0.9m bench top from Bunnings and use the rack units as 'legs' while housing the linear and and it's PS along with an Apache Labs Anan 7000 mk2 when it eventually arrives. The other will house a network switch, NAS and XR air 12 mixer and a PC. The mixer will unify audio from various radios and PC to a set of speakers. Still waiting after 2 years for the inspiration to clear out the spare room to make it all happen ;) BTW if you are considering the 7610 then you may find the Anan interesting for similar money. Keep the 7300 for the times you feel the urge to twiddle some knobs.

There is a perfect shack, but it involved an unlimited budget, a huge warehouse sized space, and multiple of every ham radio products ever made, making every mode/radio/antenna/ect. only a walk(or scooter ride) away from anywhere else in the shack.

Very nice shack. Thank you for showing all the little things you have and use in the shack rather than "this is my radio" videos. I have what my gf calls gadgets, they are not essential to radio, but they are useful to have in the shack or just plain fun. Would like to see more videos on the little things people have in their shack that makes them comfortable.

Omg, Hayden & thanks for such a great and imaginative video which is extremely helpful!. Thanks so much for this extremely helpful video showing your really beautiful setup as I'm always open to ideas to make a more permanent setup for my own station. Beautiful setup and really love the ideas and thought you had put into getting it together. Well done!. It's also a huge help to newbie (and not so newbie!) hams to give them great ideas. Definitely appreciate also the links to the lights & the items in your shack as they are likely low RF noise lights and items which is always a huge gotcha for us hams when we see a pretty LED light only for it to make a ruckus in RF hash. Great & very smart buying decisions I can see all round, Weller great soldering station definitely good move, love the foot switch, super smart move picking a USB & XLR mike as 3.5mm audio jacks are so noisy & that camera image on your videos looks outstanding. Those Green ESD mats are also fantastic. Remember Jaycar & Altronics stocking that PSU but couldn't afford it at the time so bought a Yaesu linear PSU last year even though its well over spec for the rigs I now run ie 705 lol but when I get an amp it should be capable & give me both base station QRO & portable ops flexibility via a similar VK3FS pelican case setup. Unfortunately, don't have the space nor budget as yet for a 7300. Hopefully when my left ankle completely heals from its fracture (only started slowly walking back on it without the moonboot only a few days ago!) I'll finally clear up the spare room and construct a nice shack and decent antenna feed point but that's still likely a few months away now. Curious, what sort of scope/CRO and model do you have as it looks much like a digital Tektronix 2ch model ?. Curious about that small iPad looking device in the middle of the desk with all the icons. Also, how do you find the chair comfort especially over longer periods?. If you could please do a follow-up also showing the antenna feeds from the radio & how you have setup to feed your antennas this would be so appreciative. Wishing you also best of luck in procuring the 7610 & you're clever & resourceful enough to obtain it!
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX 2 года назад
G'day John, Yes it's a Tektronix TDS 2002. I got it several years ago for the princely sum of FREE! One of the channels is broken, I think channel 1, but channel 2 works perfectly fine. The little iPad looking device is a Streamdeck and I use it to control sounds, OBS windows and transitions on live streams. The chair is semi comfortable - it came from Officeworks. I actually recently purchased a "gamer" chair which is in the living room/office and much more comfortable.. kind of thought about swapping them over. Feeds are simply through the window, it's a rental, so can't do any drilling :( Thanks mate

Nah... I've never blown up a chip due to ESD, ever. Before I begin work, I usually touch something metal to bleed off the static electricity, but, yeah I don't worry about it.

Can you please verify that the link you provided for the heil adaptor for icom is the correct one. Heil makes at least two and they are different.
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX 2 года назад
That adapter is for the Icom 7300, 9700 etc that use the 8 pin round connector on the mic. The one linked has a 3.5mm socket on it as I do into a isolation transformer box. If you want direct connection to an XLR mic, then you can possibly look at this cable, but I recommend using a isolation transformer or preamp in between. Also the adapter should have a cap in it to block any DC, that's indicated "with cap" on the adapter. geni.us/MXDeYM
