People can save even more if they drop live TV. You could get on demand TV services for between $35 and $50 a month. If you don’t watch much live TV, it can be a good option or you can just cut out the expensive sports packages and still watch live TV. The whole point of cutting cable is to save money and if you’re spending more on streaming TV than you did on cable, switching isn’t worth it. Watch your viewing and your spending habits.

The biggest plus for me ditching Direct tv was the capability to decide for myself what channels/services I use. The tv delivery services business model of collecting money to add channels to their packages has never matched my needs. At least with streaming you have options and can manage your expense. The problem with your math is that most people have Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, etc... when they have cable. So their price with cable would actually be your $100 PLUS the price of the above services you listed. When I dropped Comcast and kept internet I picked up Philo plus an antenna for locals. My net savings per month was $95. During football and basketball season I picked up Sling Orange with the sports pack and lifestyle pack (Hallmark for the wife). My savings at that point was still $70/month. At the end of March when basketball season is over I will drop Sling and go back to Philo until Labor Day when football returns. We just bought a house and I’m cutting wherever I can. We just got fios internet for 85 per month (1gb up and down) and Hulu (55 for 3 mos then 65). I have had RU-vid premium for a long time so I’m keeping that at 17 a month. With fios, The router and extender are included free. In fact it was more expensive to go down to the next plan of 400 mbps because router was not included. I tried RU-vid tv, but with a surround sound setup, the sound was not good- didn’t even support 5.1. Hulu sounds much better and has a very clear picture. We got all of the channels we were looking for except one. And the only premium channel we might pay for during a specific show is hbo for 15 and since my sisters’ families want to watch it as well, we will split that cost. We will see how it works out long term! Fios tv is just too expensive to get the channels you want. Xfinity pricing is better but it goes up and it’s under contract. It also only has fast download speeds. Crossing my fingers!

Thing is, and what i've run into is that your not including the price for internet. I'm paying $70 from Comcast, just for Wifi in the house. Adding RU-vid TV, Netflix, and a couple other add-ons and i'm up to around $160-175/mth which is really close to what I was paying before when I dropped Cable initially. Unless I just did it backwards, the only plus I've seen to streaming services is that there's no contract.

Hey there. I have a second video that’s a price comparison of streaming vs. cable. At $175 for internet, live streaming and on demand streaming you are correct that’s not too much different from the old cable bundle. I understand but most subscribers were paying more than 100.00 and the cost for cable or satellite was increasing. Currently I have RU-vid TV and few other streaming services but like you said those services were purchased temporarily and I canceled some of my streaming services. The good news is you can subscribe for a short period and cancel the streaming services anytime unlike cable or satellite 📡 services. So that 100.00 plus was spent just for few months compared to having cable or satellite for a long period of time.

The cable companies (particularly Comcast) are savvy to the cord cutters and plan to add usage charges in 2022. I was told for tier one internet which is 25 mb/s the included cap will be around a 1.2 tb data limit per month and then billed per gigabyte after that. They will eventually get their money one way or another. Until there’s more competition we’re at their mercy.

So With my vast dvd library and VHS Library, I get enough free stuff to ever think about paying for a service. Now, Like most women, my wife has an Amazon Prime account meaning she gets Amazon Prime!! So right now @ 7:26 pm, she is watching Jeopardy and I 'm watching Doctor Who: Frontier in Space on Pluto/Roku.

If you have 5 smart TV's you can spend $15 a month to subscribe to locast and watch local TV on any of them without having to watch a lot of extra commercials.

That is encouraging. I'm going to try this. I can't take the bills anymore! It just feels wrong to pay so much. I just want Jeopardy, local news, and an occasional history documentary or nature show. The rest of TV is swill that will lower your IQ.

@@someotherdude You have to keep Wifi, so I still have an internet and house phone bill. So you need internet/wifi to watch Antenna man videos, So wifi feed whichever stick you want. I choose Roku because of the free stuff which is much better than if you just have cable And you can still use Roku before you make the leap from cable. Also, I'm able to hook my antenna to the cable harness to feed the local stations to each tv. But I bought a different Roku for each tv, so if you have kids, they can customize their channels or if your spouse wants to watch a different show, or if you go to bed and continue watching your show. I have 4 wide screens and one smart tv in the main room. No fighting over the remote or you can choose which games you want to watch, because you still have access to absolutely any Premium viewing such as Charter Spectrum, Or Hulu. As I pointed out, my wife has an Amazon Prime account, or you can just subscribe to "FOX News" or "CCCNN" But the antenna and Roku have no monthly payments You have the power! *ALL ROKU GIVE THE SAME VIEWING OPTIONS! So the more expensive units are things like a talking remote or something, the apps are the apps

Even if you have cable, you have to pay extra for those channels...thus making it WAY more expensive...so if you cancel cable and just pay for Disney, hulu, what ever...way cheeper!

True. I have a separate video on cable vs. streaming -- not just about the #1 mistake tip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AwLpKcOwX6Y.html&feature=emb_logo

I am canceling RU-vid TV and going OTA. Do you think I should Hulu (no live) as well?

That’s up to you. They have next day of ABC and FOX still. But more so for the originals. I am using Hulu Basic now and always find new things to watch. Good for you going OTA to save money.

If you're close to a population center you'd be amazed what you can pick up over an antenna connected to a digital TV. Add Netflix, Amazon Prime, and maybe Disney+ and you're way ahead. If you follow a sports team outside your local area this might not work for your particular case (other than watching games at a friend's house or sports bars).

I have Roku and RU-vid Red. All I pay is 12.83 for RU-vid Red and 59.00 for internet. I’m not a TV couch potato and this is all I need.

I feel he's making in my opinion the classic mistake in comparing something like RU-vid TV to traditional cable. Most people that have traditional cable are also getting Netflix, Disney bundle and possibly HBO anyway. So really we are just comparing cable to RU-vid. Subtracting the $100 cost of cable and substituting the $65 RU-vid TV is a savings - apples for apples. I have Verizon and when I canceled the cable portion of it they did not raise my internet rate - that stayed at $50 a month. However, I choose what the $65 RU-vid TV charge was too much when it went up so dropped that, got CBS All Access and a few free TV apps, plus some sports channels that don't charge. I now pay less than a hundred bucks a month including internet for everything I want.

I understand your feedback and appreciate the comment. This video was not meant to be a comparison of streaming vs. cable. It was to point out the #1 mistake people make -- which in my opinion is not stopping and starting subscriptions or shopping around. I have a separate video that you might like better that compares the price of streaming vs. cable: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AwLpKcOwX6Y.html

@@MichaelSaves I do appreciate your explanation. What seems to be confusing is at the 1:25 mark where you state "RU-vid TV plus the other streaming services (Netflix, etc.) total to $106 per month 'versus' $100 for cable." That line is what prompted my initial response. Maybe I'm being too pedantic. Thank you for the video and listing the other options available as well as the new link. I'll check it out.

@@MichaelSaves I had been doing pretty much what you outlined, ony using services I like (sports, new movie/TV releases) as needed and cancelling until until I need them again. Saves a good deal of money and you don't really sacrifice anything. Thank you!

I did drop Cable TV a little while back and at that time was paying 267 dollars a month. Now I just do 3 OD low cost streaming services along with cable internet only. Cost is now around 80-90 dollars. Yes, I did try the trials for RU-vid TV, Sling, and HULU Live and decided that they were too costly at around 60-70 dollars a month for EACH of them. Did not try FUBU TV. Instead invested in OTA antenna for my live free TV. What is nice is there are no contracts for the streaming services, so I can drop them if the OD ones also get too high priced. So I too learned allot over the few years with streaming.

I di the same with DisneyPlus and Amazon Prime. If you pay for the whole year, the service is discounted a bit.
