Dude I wanted to never listen or watch this guy's videos again after that waste of life that was the first 5 mins... geezus h christ that was brutal...
I relate to this guy. Back in the 80's...I wasn't the "5 star" guy...but I had offers to smaller schools. My heart just wasn't in it. I didn't LOVE, LOVE football that much. I wanted to be a STUDENT. Join a fraternity and have that "college experience" that athletes don't fully get. I don't regret my decision a bit. My "heart" wasn't in the game. I had bigger fish to fry.
@@scottbaron121 I have had multiple friends decline offers to play D3 or JUCO basketball, football, wrestling, etc to just focus on school and life. Can’t hate them but couldn’t be me
Why not? When u play in the NFL u have to play in the cold. So why not get ready for it? Why just play in the heat? But yet all Alabama QBs suck anyway. They only had 2 good ones. Joe Nathan, and the dude from Miami dolphins.. everyone else pretty much sucked!!
@@Ken-fg7br Just for it to get taken in State and federal taxes 😂 there’s a reason players are happy to go to the south when they go pro. And you recover better from injuries in a warmer climate.
This is not meant to be shade in any way; he seems like the kind of guy with solid, wealthy parents and probably didn't need an NFL payday to do just fine in life. Seems like he made the right decisions he could at the time and has turned out to be a solid dude. You love to see it.
Being a rich pro football player is not the pinnacle of success! The dude happened to play football and be good at it! He also happened to be a great husband, father, and grill master! People need to stop projecting what they think a successful life is! He looks happy, his family looks happy, and he looks to be successful with his business! The rest of yall who hate on him can kick rocks
Yes, my brother is friend's with him and his family. He doesn't own a barbeque business, but works at a barbeque restaurant. Other than that, great video!
When he committed to Notre Dame, he was 4th, but when he decommitted and committed to Bama, he became number one without any improvements. shitty rankings
Bama fan here and a big Blake Barnett supporter. I was so disappointed when he didn't win the starting job at Bama. Lane Kiffin was a great OC but he always favored the running QBs and not the pocket passers. As for Saban, I would point out that he had great relationships with other offensive players such as Hurts, Tua, Mac Jones, D Henry, etc, so I think that's not a fair statement. But Barnett is winning at life because he has a gorgeous wife and family, and he's got a good career. I'm glad he's doing well. The NFL may be flashy but it comes with a price, so I don't blame anyone for not having the desire to play in the NFL.
You can say what you want, but Barnett was just making excuses. He came from money, and when it was shown that he was clearly overrated from the rankings, he moved on 3 separate times before an injury said, "im done." Dude never had any real love for football and you can see that.
He had options. A lot of guys feel like their only option is football, thus they put 110% into it. A lot of the best athletes (there are exceptions) come from poor opportunities. He wasn't worried about facing poverty if he didn't make it. The decisions he made in recruiting and college career weren't very well guided either
Matt, I have been following you for sometime now. First thanks for this video! I always wondered what happened to Bama starting QB who was ahead of Jalen Hunts. As I recalled that year Bama Offensive Line was not good. Blake was suppose to be a stud but without blockers he looked suspect! If Jalen Hurts first read wasn't open he would just run. Without a QB spy that threw off the defense and made Jalen looked like a stud. With Blakes injury he did what was best for him and his family. Once again thanks for everything you do. ROLL TIDE!
Dude made excuses, quit immediately when he wasn't the starter, and quit football altogether after one injury. He never really cared about it much. He came from money, so none of this bothers him.
Pulling up the stats for that USC game was very disingenuous. He recorded pretty all those yards and the TD in garbage time in the fourth against backups.
Maybe bring a superstar nfl qb is not what he wanted! Did you ever think of that? Some people are no willing to sell their souls and morals just to be a rich professional athlete
Dude I was at that USC game when Hurts came in and stamped his legacy at Bama! When Barnett transferred it was a shock and disappointment but like you said two sides to every story! Props to him for making his next move his best move after football! Blake Barnett keep grinding bro! Roll Tide!
Barnett has that "Zach Wilson" look about him. Jalen Hurts replaced Barnett back then and now Hurts earns $51 million per season. It just wasn't in the cards for Barnett.
Great video of the real story on Blake. I know the feeling of disconnect with a new coach. Had no idea the full reason on why he transferred midseason. Us Bama grads/fans think our school is the end all-be all, but sometimes it’s just not a good fit. Not for everyone. I enjoy your videos and sense of humor. You bash people but usually cut them slack in the end to stay objective. Roll Tide. PS. You should definitely try to get Agiye Hall on the show. Hope he’s gotten his act together and has a good year.
The reason Jalen Hurts stayed for the whole season was so he didn't get his schoolwork interrupted. Student first, athlete second. Worked out pretty well for him.
Half these hs clips are of Blake Barnett from Erie Hs in colorado, bro committed to kstate. All the orange helmets and black and white jerseys are erie
I remember that season opener against USC. You nailed it Barnett didn’t play “terrible”. just the offense moved so much more fluid with Jalen hurts. His dual threat ability was just too much for defenses to handle.
@@howtogetawaywithgaming2146 just to say he’s been busy making videos. We all know what road to glory will bring. We don’t care about white Randy’s destiny
Being a life long USC fan and my dad being acquaintances with the guy; Labe Kiffin WAS a Deadbeat Alcoholic coach who didn't care about his players and caused scenes in bars ALL THE TIME. Ive heard good things from him being at Ole Miss
Defensive coordinators are the best transition to QB development. You want to know how to beat defenses? Get with a genius on defense.. learn every look and get better.
I thought it was ridiculous that he was rated as a 5 star with those throwing mechanics. I said he would never be the starting QB for Alabama and I was almost right. He was the starter for one game.
That's how recruiting works. Ever notice how if Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia even looks a players way he jumps 1 or 2 stars in the rankings. As soon as they do, every other program is putting them on the radar. And that is part of the reason some kids with skills and potential will slip through the cracks and then end up at directional state U leading an upset of a major program.
Didn't he go to Purdue & transfer to an average on offense LSU team. I believe he was a late round draft choice & a career backup. Weak arm QB that could not run.
Why does it seem like Arizona State is always the school a guy either comes from or goes to. It’s like the school for 5 star rejects or 2 stars who turn into 5 stars later on
I would have to say that Matt wasn't in the club, so he wouldn't be signing a Faustian bargain. They need club members to do their rituals. Life is darker then we know about. Good for him because he wouldn't have to sacrifice any of his family, friends or pets. Plus he wouldn't be dying by the numbers.
Matt, why do so many quarterbacks transfer to and from Arizona State? We need to look at why they get these guys and can’t groom them to the next level🤔
Decommitted is the weakest word ever even though it has become common. Failure to honor a commitment is called default, exposing a lack of integrity. Changing your mind is fine and good, but you do all that before you make a commitment or else you just lied. Sometimes you have to suck it up buttercup.
He didn't want to play at Notre Dame because of the cold, what was he going to do in the NFL? And he's complaining about not having a great relationship with Saban--he was a freshman, he hadn't proven anything. Sounds like he's just soft and entitled and didn't really love football enough to compete.
I feel bad for this kid. His parents should have tried to push into a program that would have benefited his skill set more than a prestige of a name of a school. Just imagine if you would have went to North Dakota State like Josh Allen or Trey young he'd be in the league right now
It would be funny to see a college athlete refuse to play in the NFL because they have already made a lot of money already and don't want to risk any (more) brain injuries. Maybe that will convince people not to give these students so much money.
@@UnknownSource08 I meant they could use the money to give other people non-sports scholarships and make it easier to get into a good college. Now go and hide behind your trust found while complaining about smart kids going for free because the schools have more money to pay for their stuff now.
