I've been hitting all the PB shot and stroke highlights on RU-vid this week, and _this_ is the single most underrated shot in my opinion. I finally understand why my random rec group rarely manages to get into a kitchen game. Almost every shot from low in transition sets up another slam from the other side and we ended up bashing more than half the time (the other 30% was late-to-the-ball lob defense, and only 20% was kitchen game). I'm pretty new to the sport, and I was below average in the group (proficient enough for rec play, but not world beaters). I seemed to be working harder than anyone else I observed to land a solid 3rd-shot drop, although my batting average is only about 0.500 at this stage. And it was great when it worked. Suddenly the hulk on the other side with the Flash Gordon wrist action was reduced to sending me back a ball I could properly deal with. Not only is this shot underrated, but his is a superior treatment and extremely easy to understand.

Awesome Jordan! This is something I continually work on...sometimes successful, sometimes not. The problem I have is when playing with bangers or hard-hitters, resetting/volleying a fast ball from mid-court is really challenging! Just the right amount of grip pressure, etc. is needed and it's not always easy to tell how much to use to make a successful shot. My other problem is I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I want to make the "perfect" reset which oftentimes puts so much pressure on me, I totally flub the shot. Thoughts? Other than counseling... LOL
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 года назад
Yes Leslie, this is a shot that needs LOTS of practice. I have to practice this shot in the transition zone every single time that I play. You will find the balance in grip pressure and how much you actually have to “volley” the ball. Don’t be perfect! No one is. Just do your best to get that first ball down and try to reset the next ball. Even the pros make mistakes! Check this out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9xUM_i06uQQ.html

Hi Jordan, I was at a clinic put on by Ben Johns and he emphasized what an important shot this is to learn. One video I would like to see would be for good offensive shot options at the line as well as seeing good defensive techniques when you’re trying to reset the point. I would like to have a broader shot offensive arsenal at the line and know where to aim if the ball is attackable (slightly above the net) but I don’t have an angle to hit down at their feet. Thanks Jordan. Your videos are great.

Yes, of course. Although the balls that are hit at your feet, are most likely going to have to be half-volleyed. This is also a hard shot. Taking the ball out of the air can be much easier !

I assume you’re talking about volleys? There’s nothing wrong with swinging if you are intending to hit a swinging volley. With regular push or punch volleys, you want to have a stable paddle face and firm contact out in front. Check our our volley videos!

That said, here is some "Constructive criticism." You videos are way too long because you repeat things three and four times. Remember, the viewer has the option of backing up the video if they choose to hear it again. Keep up the good work, I consider you my go-to guy when I'm struggling we something in my game.

Some RU-vid consumption platforms and use cases make backing up easy, but others don't. I have a fairly decent Android phone, but I regard it as pretty much unusable for just about anything that requires my giant fingers to peck away at that tiny screen (16 cm on the diagonal, so not small). At the other end of the spectrum my desktop has three monitors and it's super easy to rewind.
