What you name your OmniFocus tasks matters. Vague task names cause overwhelm and confusion. Precise task names help you stay organized and get stuff done. Here's a few tips on writing specific and actionable task names in OmniFocus.

Hello, great OmniFocus content!! I've been watching your OF videos and taking notes here and there about setting my workflow.. I have some key actions that I add at the beginning of the task; Transfer: , Pay: , Renew: or if its a simply task then: Task: I've been using OF for a year now, but I loaded it so heavy in projects and tasks tags that it was overwhelming .... I few weeks ago I started from scratch again, simpler, few projects, basic tags, until I get more used to it. keep up the great work!

I am a sucker for OF tips. I've been using OF since v1, so this video was all review for me. I did pick up one useful idea: Your Forecast perspective is at the bottom just above Review. I've been trying to break free from the tyranny of artificial deadlines. I think moving Forecast will help me break free.

OmniFocus was originally based on Dave Allen’s Getting Things Done and he emphasized the need to have actionable items. You can’t get anything done without knowing specifically the action you need to take. Basic formula: verb + object. Normally, actionable items are one-offs. If it isn’t, then what you have is a project. In which case, you will need to break it down into distinct, one-off actionable items. This isn’t always clear to many folks, unfortunately.

Love your videos - thank you 😊. On the health insurance one, I also tend to add the phone number I need to ring and typically the policy number. When I make the call it means that there is literally nothing to have to search for. Means I can tag it as being able to be done anywhere! 😊

I use this style already but it is always useful in organisation to have good habits refreshed and to see how an expert approaches the subject, in this case particularly the use of sub-tasks. In my style if these tasks are going to still be there tomorrow and are of any length then this will quickly become a project.

Thank you for all these videos! I don’t have a Mac, but use OF on my iPhone and sometimes iPad. It would be helpful if you could mention how to do some of the ‘shortcuts’ on mobile devices instead of just a laptop. Thanks!

Hi Peter - just a general comment for your videos. You say things like hit Ctrl + xxx to do xyz but that doesn’t work on the phone. It took me a long time to understand the buttons that change the task to a project or split it. (Actually still not 100% comfortable) I think in one of the videos there was a command to make a task have sub-tasks and I’m not sure how to do that on the phone. I was also blown away that you can just right-click and copy a project on the Mac. I use Taskpaper and Siri Shortcuts to do that on the phone. Is there an easier way?

Hello Peter, I have been using Omni for long time but due complexity i keep back and forward between Omni and other similar apps. My question here is when should I use date due and to use defer date. Thank you Sir.
