Hard pick! I think my personal favorite were your two dungeon stacker videos, not because of how awesome dungeon stackers are, but more because that video taught me to think more modularly. From there I was able to start thinking about two-tier tiles, like shore tiles, which eventually led to my dock tiles. In terms of your best builds? Falling Down holds a special place in my heart, because it perfectly triggered the nostalgia that movie makes me feel. I couldn't argue with any of your list , because every build there was so good!
Your torment build! Both inspirational and uplifting of crossing the challenge called creative block. If I ever get a bigger space set up, I'm definitely going for the method of just throwing stuff together! Thank you for that series and I can't wait to see the plague city.
I loved that little staircase diorama. Follow up: it might be fun to do a "bottom 10", what you least enjoyed to make, or didn't like the final result!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Especially if it was presented constructively (as you tend to do), saying how a piece could have been approached differently with hindsight.
And then redoing them, trying a different approach or keeping the mistakes in mind, maybe using new techniques learnt? Maybe fixing some of them Would give an interesting perspective on progression
@@JohnCallaghanMusic This! People learn a lot from these videos and looking at mistakes and analysing them gives a lot of insight into why this or that doesn't work.
whhhaaaaat!!! where's the squished house from your childhood!!? That was my bet for your number one, you're full of surprises. Awesome list though, tons of these are my favorites from you too. So many amazing achievements, be proud my friend!
Well, almost the same because Anything Nurgle has zero chance to make it to my favorites, but yes, like "Oh yes i loved that one!" repeated over and over, and he could have continued for 20 more and have about the same result :D
My guess is the shack! EDIT: Ok I was wrong - didn't even make the list. Number one was a great choice, I remember really liking the video when I saw it. Perfect narrative quality for a mini diorama. Also I just realized the Torment music reminds me of when Cersei blows up the Great Sept of Baelor
14:45 The word “Art” comes from the Latin “ars” and means “art/craft/skill”. It was originally used to describe jobs that involved some kind of fine hand coordination skills, such as blacksmiths, wood workers, any kind of painter, etc... In Italy, during the Middle Age there was an artistic desolation left from the fall of the Roman empire, but a few centuries later something changed. Carpenters that build furnitures only because people needed them, started to decorate their craft, not because it was functional but because it was esthetically pleasing. Painters did not only depicted sacred scenes on churches walls because people could not read and there was a need of a graphic representation of the bible, they started to study prospective, shapes, light, colors, expression and story telling. That was the Renaissance. To put it simply: Art is when you expand your craft beyond it’s simple task, when you are craving for something more, even if your product already fulfills its role. That said: NEVER DOUBT that you are not making art when building your sceneries/models!
Okay, paused after a minute, I'm gonna go on a limb here and guess that your favorite build is actually the basic dungeon tiles that you did years ago, that kinda launched your channel it feels like. Let's see if I'm right.
Yeah I was thinking the dungeon tiles for Frostgrave or the Tudor houses that had actual plaster walls. I guess it's a case of when you develop your skills to the point where you hate your earlier work.
When I started watching yours and other tabletop gaming youtubers, I had basically given up on most creative outlets, you've really helped me kick that slump and now my mind is going wild with all sorts of ideas, thanks man
My guess pre-watch: That tentacle Lovecratian thing. Based on nothing more than the fulfillment you seemed to get from making it, how proud you were of how it came out, and the fact that it was for a campaign that you and your players were clearly really into! Edit: Well at least it made the list.
I legit guessed the vampire build at the start of the video. I remember watching it and you saying it was one of your favorite builds at the time. Cheers!
I think my favorites are: 1. Hag's Hut (surprised not to see it on the list, but it's really hard to pick 10 out of all those awesome builds) 2. Cyberpunk Diorama (you should certainly make more cyberpunk stuff!) 3. Shipwreck House
Was really refreshing to have this kind of slow, contemplative episode and listen to your thoughts about the projects, kind of a rewind of what you've worked on over the years. Knew that Shipwreck Cottage would make it here! Though expected it to be a little higher on the list 😄 Happy to see Torment around the top, I believe that's a project you needed to make at that right time, so it's totally justified.
You got me. At first I thought it was going to be a surprise fundamental element like your tiles or stackers just because of the usefulness and the likely amount of use they got from your fanbase. But once you started ranking them and I saw how you were grading, I thought it was going to be a diorama piece but not that one. I had forgotten about that one, honestly. And while I admit it was not one I would have picked from your vast repertoire of work, the title was YOUR favorite. So who can argue with that. :) Regardless of us agreeing on your best work or not, one thing is not to be unsaid and that is you have given us a TON of great work and I look forward to more. I have completely remodelled an entire quarter of my house around building myself a makerspace just so I can do some of the things you have shown me. I hope that gives you some idea how influential you have been on your fan base. Thank you. Now get back to work. :)
Jeremy, it took me a while to find it but I did. Episode 15 (yeah, 4+ years ago) you described the City Gate as the most favorite piece you ever did. LOL My how times have changed when that did not even make your top ten today. :)
I actually want to really thank you. I got into crafting a bit this last year and don't think I would have if it wasn't for your channel. I even followed your links and got a lot of the starting stuff you reccommend, and whipped up my own jar of blackend modpodge and blackwash. I started with two action figures actually, the Mcfarlane Primaris figures. I coated one in grime, and dirt, and heavier armour and grew a tree out of his back, and converted him into this old nurgle chaos marine "So blessed, that nurgle planted a seed from his garden in this champions heart" And really, blending in plants, and fungus, and a dead tree INTO a character was just really fun! My second Primaris I am doing a lot cleaner, following some painting guides for miniatures but blown up a lot bigger, and I am painting him as a Lieutenant of the fourth company in the Exorcists chapter. Both of them are almost finished, and just waiting for the spring when its warm enough to clear coat them with the spray I got, and assemble them. I haven't been this creative since high school almost a decade ago, and I've really missed it. So thank you so much for inspiring me, helping me get a feel for how to do things, and being an inspiration. Once my work is done, I'll send in some pics to your channels facebook!
Dude, Jeremy, don't question the art of what you make. People watch you do what you do. The items are art and the making videos is its own art. Be proud of your work, you've earned it.
I guessed correctly for the vampire (and I swear I didn't cheat). Why ? Because it is small and yet, tells you a story. It's like a small window, to a bigger, much bigger story. It may not be the most impressive piece, technically, especially compared to the others, but it is the one I remembered the most. It's the kind of build that makes me asking "what's happening next ?".
Whenever I feel like I'm "cheating" but not being 100% from-scratch on any project, in any medium, I try to remember this quote: "I thought using loops was cheating, so I programmed my own using samples. I then thought using samples was cheating, so I recorded real drums. I then thought that programming it was cheating, so I learned to play drums for real. I then thought using bought drums was cheating, so I learned to make my own. I then thought using premade skins was cheating, so I killed a goat and skinned it. I then thought that that was cheating too, so I grew my own goat from a baby goat. I also think that is cheating, but I’m not sure where to go from here. I haven’t made any music lately, what with the goat farming and all." So stop goat farming and start making.
My favorite would be the hag's hut. I used your idea to build a Hagrid's hut for my train layout. My guess for your favorite is the shipwreck hut on your right, only cause I can't remember your other builds. Hey, I'm an old geezer , what can I say?
Man, either the staircase or the shipwreck house. I use the staircase method to build a lot of towers, since it's a great way to make spirally shapes without making a billion bricks, and the shipwreck house... it's just awesome. Also, I've never met anyone but a Canadian who refers to things as being "neat".
I haven’t RPG gamed in over 30 years, but watching your videos has gotten my into terrain building. It’s great to wake up or get home from work and be excited to work on that next project. Looking back on something you created and it makes you happy... that’s the pay off, that’s what it’s all about. Thank you!
Hii! I don't know if you're ever going to read this. But I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video and I literally gasped because of the art you create! I wasn't familiar with you, but I'll be definitely be looking for more videos from you!
Nope definitely didn’t guess that one, I thought Torment would be #1. I think a video where you put out ALL of your pieces would be super cool to see.... you may need someone’s driveway to get it all out, lol😝
"I look at it and it makes me smile" - such an awesome response to your own work and many of us have the same I'm sure... thanks for the videos throughout the channel history - looking froward what ever may come next :)
I'm not sure that I agree with you. Yes, it often is that way but sometimes you need to build a piece out of necessity that is just a bit of grind so that you can get to something fun again and especially for creators like Jeremy where their income literally relies on something new you can get into that funk of "ugh, what do I do now?".
I will be a little sad if that awesome shipwreck cottage doesn't make the list... EDIT: BOOM! There it is 😅 Totally agree on your creative/art comments. it's so worth it, every time.
My favorite build of my own, is my big Miniature 1:12 house,I used over 13 years to make it, and I’m still putting details into it now and then, so I’m not sure it will ever be all done. I loved the video of you making the vampyer on the stairs, well I love all your dioramas. Thank you for all your awesome videos. Eventhoug I’m building an making things in 1:12 scale, you do have a lot of cool tecknickes, that I can use in my builds, so I love your videos, as they do inspire me
It was your "The Mandalorian" build that actually got me motivated enough to start in this hobby, and actually subscribe to this channel, which is the first RU-vid channel I ever subscribed to.. It got me to make a similar diorama, but at a larger scale for my Star Wars Black Series 6 inch figures. So I was very glad to see it pop up in this countdown, and thank you for re-igniting my imagination.
Modular terrain tiles. The thing that got you started down this amazing and generous adventure. Thank you for all of your favorites and everything that ended up filler, in the bin, or what is to come!
my favorite build from you has to be "The Shack", those kinds of old abandoned farm buildings are all over the place where i live, and seeing them gives me a strange sense of "home", you managed to perfectly captured their look and feel in that build.
The “Hell-scape,” made without planning, that turned into that... awesome, deamon, Hell. That’s my guess! Torment! Ahhh, there it is! My favorite project is (perpetually and tragically) my “next” project.
After watching all your videos and pausing this one to not cheat, I would have to say your miniature Vampire diorama around the top bc of how animated and happy you were when you created it, how it came together and how amazing it was completely done.
I'm glad you included the wizard's tower. I'm just finishing up two levels of it, and planning at least one more before introducing it to our game. Thanks for the really great design! And that shipwreck cottaged...I think your Patreon supporter was reading Dickens, because it reminds me of Peggotty's house, though hers was described as if it was just beached, not sunk on end. Still, Barkis is willin'. Great build!
I was able to guess a few but to be honest I forgot, to my shame, several of your amazing builds! I really like your content, it's instant watch for me when it shows up on my feed and I really look forward to what you come up with next :) I must say however, builds like your favorite, the vampire, do inspire me more than the scatter terrain, like the one with the angel or the swamp you did recently, since the diorama pieces seem to require some more thought and effort behind them. With that said! I would like you to continue to do EXACTLY what you WANT and are DOING because it is amazing content. Do not fall into the trap of trying to please the masses, too many channels have fallen into that trap and then the content, in the end, just becomes... meh! Too mainstream. Do your thing. It's great, and we love it :)
Lovely video, I definitely wouldn’t have guessed the Vampire Diorama, but it certainly makes a lot of sense. I loved its simplicity when you first released the video and was inspired by how much story could be conveyed with a smaller build. Capturing the story in a diorama is always a lovely challenge. I just finished making a Kill Bill diorama, forced me to try new techniques and incorporate elements I’ve never used when crafting. Diorama making is such a great way to build new skills in our hobby.
I didn't call the vampire, however I can't think of a project of yours that I like more. The colours are just unreal enough to be spooky without being cartoony, the black boarders really confine the space in an artistically uncomfortable way and the model itself stands menacingly in the middle. It is an excellent build and I agree with your choice. You ask what're our favourites of our own builds, well not to plug my own videos in your comments section or anything.... buuuut my favourite build of mine in the last year is my s.t.a.l.k.e.r. diorama. It encompassed a number of design specifications that I achieved all of, I built it at a time when I was quite depressed (There's a reason there's no voice in that video:( ) and so struggling through it step by step gave me something to focus on technically and artistically, it was small enough that each step was no effort but big enough that each step meant deliberately doing something for it. Once it was done I liked it so much that instead of putting it on my model shelf where I had intended for it to go, I put it on the shelf under my TV, which is visible in all my videos since.
Always remember that critics don't get to make value judgements about art (or anything else) on your behalf. Thats, like, their opinion, man. Don't allow others to stifle your creativity.
Kudos brother! They look great! I never saw the vampire piece before, looks great. I've been building terrain for decades & I still learn a lot on this channel. Keep up the good work!
great choices of your top 10. recently I have gone through all my terrain, scatter and dioramas - I literally had to declutter some stuff and I threw out or donated the better stuff to a gaming group. The faves I kept though and they are the most versatile. A ship - Has basic layout and I can change the figure head and layout when I want. A tower building complex - I can make one big building/ several small buildings or some different half size buildings. I can mix and match all of it making it different every-time. some of it is round others are square. My swing bridge - not versatile but it is great to look at and is impressive every-time I put it on the table. Rest of it is all reusable scatter terrain that I can use in any situation
To be perfectly honest I don’t think you’ve done a bad build. I love all of your builds and you have been a massive inspiration to me. My personal favourite build has been my Bloodbowl stadium 😃👍🏼
It's always interesting that how differently the maker judges or sees the creations from the observers. The maker's point of view is very personal, and it was great to hear these thoughts. And at least one of my favorites, the shipwreck cottage made it on to the list! :D
just found this video, so dunno if you see old comments.. in case you do… did that amazing piece ever made it to the game? great portal looking, monster from EH coming out.. terrific. hope it did. :) curious if you were to rank your favorite simplest terrains, what would they be? maybe a video for the future ;) LOL
Dude!!!!! 100000% what you do is art. Sculpting, painting, crafting...... Story telling is an art form also.... Don't sell yourself short man. Always so good.
torment it has to be tornment. ..... spoiler ... AHHHHHHHH !!! SO FRKN CLOSE !!!! second place and also didnt think that I would recognise more of them but I have been here for 9 of the 10 builds !!!
Number 2 very cohesive, great use of models that one might feel like should be painted in 'more colors' but turns out, a set of terrain with that many interesting details brings alot to a table, and in a reasonable amount of time.
Howdy boss! I'd give my left n.....ike if you'd do an episode on (SUGGESTION) Trim on Adeptus Mechanicus clothing etc.. if you've already covered it, my apologizes😉 Great channel! Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
My favourites are 1.Torment (all of it) 2.Vampire diorama 3.Hags hut 4.Tiger monk as it would have been with the water 5.Shipwreck hut 6.Cyberpunk diorama 7.Mandalorian diorama 8.Falling Down diorama 9.Modular stacking Mage tower 10.Mausoleum Generally I'm more drawn to the terrain and buildings over the minis, as that is where my crafting interests lie...but that might change!
Alright, just started the video and making my guesses: On the list (no particular order): Zombie Diorama Mandalorian Diorama Hag's Hut The Shack Tomb of The Frozen King Dungeon Stackers (this could be #1 honestly) Falling Down Diorama The Dumpsters (I know long shot) Sathog the Flesh Spawn And Jeremy's #1 Favorite build: The Torment Hell Build This one is recent, was very interesting, seemed like a lot of fun to make, and had a hell (😉) of a lot of love put into it. His Honorable Mentions: Samurai Model (that would've made the list if the base survived) The $1 House (maybe more for the quality and importance of the video) Time to see how close I was... Spoilers/Edit: SO MAD I didn't guess the vampire. I remember how proud Jeremy was of it, but I really thought the zombie diorama would have surpassed it. While I was pretty far off, all these builds are absolutely awesome. As for my favorite - its definitely the Mandalorian diorama. It showed me that I could make a diorama.
Alrighty, well my guess for #1 would immediately be that gothic cathedral, but you were very excited about your recent hell pieces............ Perhaps the Mandolorian diorama... Too many to guess................ Maybe the gaming table..... I'm gonna go with... The cathedral why not lol Edit: wow I haven't been keeping up with BMC over the past year, I have been more busy than I realized. There were 5-6 pieces that I've never seen before now.
The Mando/child video was my first of yours...quickly followed by the modular mage castle. LOVED THEM both and have now seen most of your others. Thank you for the inspiration. I’m going to make the modular mage tower for my youngest’s many GNOMES to sit on...
'Scuse me, sir, but would you mind recommending your PERFECT diorama-building channel? You're the only terrain crafter I subscribe to on YT, and I'd like to expand that by one. I'm looking for less D&D and more generic landscapes/scenes. Don't worry, I'm not leaving BMC!
My guess is that sick gallows build! Ight I better go watch the video now 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 I've watched the video and I was WAYYYY OFF! All your builds are fantastic! Especially the torment project! And that vampire scene is a worthy pick for top spot!
Hello from Edmonton,AB! I thought for sure the "Torment Build" or the "Death Guard Army" were going to be number one. I'll admit, I don't think I have actually seen the "Vampire Build" yet. My wife and I will have to give it a view later. Keep up the awesome work! P.S, I would love to see a "Hobbit Hole" build from you. Just an idea. 😊
Most of my "best guesses" were on the list but I didn't guess the vampire! My top guess was the Shipwreck house because you mentioned in the video how challenging the shape was. I don't do in person TTRPG sessions, though I've been inspired by watching you to really up my Roll20 map game. However! I plan to make a taller version of your Wizard's tower for my husband's Tzeentch board. We'll probably do 4 layers an a conical roof so he can battle friends all the way up the spire! That does seem like a great baby step into more custom Age of Sigmar/40k terrain for us. Keep up the amazing work!
Well...3 outta 10 is enough to put me within the top of the batting order...and I am guilty for ignorance of the vampire vignette. They are all well seeded and received. Great stuff!!! Cheers 🥂🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
Dude I guessed it! Fuck ya. I just went with MY favorite peice from you! It’s the vampire peice. It’s beautiful man. I personally love vampires and ,idk,it’s a miniature peice for a miniature and it’s just awsome.
Im currently @ 0:28 in the video...I'd go with the wild card and say your #1 favorite build is your wonderful daughter, but that's cheating a bit. By coolest I'll go Fisherman's Shack. By most useful I'll go dungeon pillars.
"Ars Longa, Vita Brevis".... The art is huge, the life short.... I really like your terrain. It would make a great setting for a Warhammer Warcry campaign.
enjoyed watching all these builds over the years. this channel is the one that really made me want to start a channel of my own. looking forward to many more great videos.
Dungeon tiles?!?!? Something that changed the gaming experience for anybody who plays "d&d", I think must be in your top3! Honestly your biggest impact on rhe gaming world! Super content, keep up the great work! Love and good health tot you and your dear ones!
The modular mage tower is ideal for ZOOM D&D with its basically unlimited levels. I am going to build this and together with the DMG's stage, which I have already built I will be good to go. But I am so looking forward to meeting live again. I have a new gaming table that is still sitting waiting to be completed and the chairs still boxed up. We just aren't ready to chance the COVID risk no matter how small it may be, And the table i s way too heavy for my husband and I to flip around on our own. ZOOM is okay but it would never be my choice without this COVID thing. On a side note, my husband and Igo back for shot #2 in 3 weeks :-)
My guess for favorite is the Falling Down (diorama? display piece?) project. I just think it looked like something you really enjoyed making. And before I watch the rest of the video... A couple of other Top Tens that might be fun. Top Ten most fun builds (not necessarily the best? Is that too narrow or niche?) Top Ten growth builds (where you had to teach yourself something to complete it.) Top Ten lemons-to-lemonade (builds that didn't go as planned.) And now to finish the video...
Great, great work, all of them. You have some serious skills. Thank you. My favourite builds of yours, are the Skull Stones - they look astonishing, and your 'Big Zombie Diorama'.
That was a great relaxing video to watch- and it was really cool to see some of my absolute favourites show up in your top ten. Number 1 is probably one of my favourite projects of yours- close behind would be the zombie diorama and the graveyard mausoleum because I actually built my own humble version of that spooky building and I'm quite proud of it. Keep up the great work, dude! Also great Carl Sagan quote ;)
