St Louis city is small and compact , only 63 square miles. The old city is almost entirely inner city.. That skews the crime stats compared to other large U.S. cities. Detroit is 139 square. miles. Yet, St Louis has popular gentrifying areas with great 19th century architecture. Don't count out St Louis.
@@Adrianahgsefltyib11 I live in San Antonio Texas which has 505 sq miles. Much of the city of San Antonio looks like suburbs. If 20 miles of the higher crime parts of San Antonio were compared with 20 miles of the highest crime areas of St Louis we'd probably not see much difference. Texas law makes it generally easy for a city to annex adjacent unincorporated areas and somewhat expensive for these areas to resist being annexed. North St Louis is losing population and eventually many parts will be redeveloped. Its a shame that so much beautiful architecture was lost during the decline
I've lived in Missouri my whole life and I honestly laughed at this video. West Plains was the only town I agreed with being on the list. Springfield is a great place to live and I feel that the Kansas City side has great towns such as St. Joe, Maryville, Excelsior Springs, Lawson and so many more. The video should of had more focus on small towns.
Have you been to all these cities? If not, what gives you the right to think they shouldn't be on the list? I have lived in Ballwin for over 40 years. It is beautiful, clean and virtually no crime. A place where you can leave your doors unlocked and wake up alive.
Yeah lol, I’ve lived in Kansas City all my life in varying neighborhoods. From shabby, hood like places, to expensive, nice neighborhoods... and not ONCE have I been catcalled, or had my house vandalized or broken into. I’ve felt safe everywhere! I went to public schools, and they were all kept in nice shape, and had good teachers. So Idk why it wasn’t on the list.
I dont know where you got your info from but most of the places you mentioned are not what you said they are...I know, I've lived in Missouri all my life!
So have I. Clayton, Town and Country, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Kirkwood, all wonderful cities with low to no crime, great shopping, great schools, and fantastic real estate/housing. If anything, you probably don’t make enough money to live in those towns. The only ones I’m skeptical of are Bonnie Terre and Columbia. Columbia is a college town and that’s about it, so I wouldn’t want to live there. And the claim that Bonne Terre is diverse? More like hillbilly’s, but whatever.
@@rogermurph101 excuse me, my income level has no bearing on the TRUTH, I love my Show Me State...and I did say most of the places they mentioned, so in order for you to look a lil more intelligent, read and understand a person's comment before you respond and I guarantee it will help...GOD Bless you though!!!
Bonne Terre? Well it is the cheapest like you said lol. What about doing another list but only choosing one town in the st. Louis area and then the rest throughout the state? Oh and I lived in como for quite a while moved there at 18- not for college but for my job and I loved it there! And my best friend moved there- 5 years ago and loves it now that she has a family. The only bad thing is the crime is rising in certain areas really fast 😔 And you forgot one of the best places to live- Hannibal! Actually it could be on both best places to visit and best places to live 😉 .....so much history and tourist things etc. For visitors and living there is pretty great too. ☺ I think the list is ok- with the exception of bonne terre- no one wants to live there lol and the fact that many of the places listed are in the stl area- it would be fun to see a list that has places all over the state and just maybe put stl area- like town and country etc and have it be one place. ☺
I live in Jeff City and we were just voted as the sixth best place in the country for young professionals. We have a very low unemployment rate, low cost of living, a ton of development, and you're 30 minutes from Columbia or you're 30 minutes from the Lake of Ozarks. However, if I had to choose the "best" town to live in Missouri (a relative concept) I would point to Hermann. Hermann has hundreds of things to do, wine country, is the most beautiful town in Missouri, virtually NO crime, low unemployment, affordable housing, great place to start a new business, close to HWY 70 access, safe school, and great place overall to raise a family. The one problem with Hermann is the high cost of utilities.
I moved to Missouri from Illinois, and I love it. We have the best firearm and self-defense laws in the nation. We have all four of the weather seasons. It's a medium to medium-low tax state. As with every state there are some bad areas, but overall it is definitely a great place to live.
USMC Vet I left NW Mo after enlisting in the Corps in 1970. I moved to the retirement list in 1990. I missed the four seasons, the hunting and fishing, Bearcat Football, and friendly neighbors. I did not like the unfriendly taxes and the lack of jobs. Sadly, I couldn't afford to move home. I hope you find a future there. Semper Fi.
Don't forget about Baden! It is a shame. As a kid we used to walk the streets at Bellefontaine Neighbors at night; we'd jump a bus (as young kids) to get to the Northwest Mall or Jamestown, play at the arcades all day and jump the bus back home. I visited BN a year ago for a wedding and I wouldn't dare unlock my car doors. That whole area has become a shit hole.
Wow...no Branson, Cape Girardeau, lake of the Ozarks, hell not even Eureka or Washington? Ste Genevieve? Springfield? Rolla? St James? How about covering the real state and not just St Louis and West County? Btw, if you are out of state, the "mall" in Chesterfield is dead and empty literally
@@juliecopelandbarrows2971 no I mean the Chesterfield mall. If you call the bookstore and Cheesecake Factory alive and vibrant, then you have a different opinion than most. Crestwood has been deserted for years yes, but Chesterfield is in a death spiral. I think you are referring to the outlet mall or the bottoms, not the actual mall. I have pictures on my phone showing exactly what a ghost town the mall is and it was taken on a Saturday night. No Sears, no Spencer's, no bath and body works, no hot topic, no old Navy, no Victoria secret, no Dillard's, no slackers, no Lids, etc. Basically it's the dirt mall from the movie Mallrats now.
@@juliecopelandbarrows2971 perhaps you are talking about West County is Des Peres? The one with the dove? That's about 20 miles from Chesterfield mall if that is where you are referring to and yes I agree it is doing well
Cape is dying on the vine. The people prefer family and lineage so you will never fit in. I have never made a friend here, the people do not welcome outsiders. Jobs are for people who know each other, and there are very few to be had. It is very beautiful tho esp the St Gen area. It's nice if you have money for weekend getaways but you probably won't. This is a State with more minuses than plusses. I would leave and relocate but I'm too poor.
These people are funny they are just telling a whole bunch of lies to get people to move in around st. Louis and other places there's more crying there than anywhere
I assume you meant to say crime and not crying? Well, you’d be wrong. The municipalities mentioned in this video experience virtually no crime. The only reason St. Louis makes that most dangerous city list every year is because the city proper has a population of only 300,000. The metro area, which includes most of the cities in this video, has a population closer to 3,000,000. If the entire St. Louis metro area were included in those rankings, St. Louis wouldn’t be anywhere near the top 50 most dangerous cities. And in the city itself, most of that violent crime is isolated to a handful of blocks.
I was born and raised in St. Louis and I fled it 10 years ago. It's a hell hole. My friend said the crime is spilling out from the North side now and into South County which used to be okay. Clayton and Chesterfield are nice if you can afford it. Most people can't.
I've lived in MO almost all of my life and this video targets out of state urban dwellers. If you want to learn about the rest of the state, talk to a fisherman or a hunter and learn about all the natural resources Missouri has to offer. There is more to Missouri than housing costs and median incomes. As the song says: Hunting and fishing and loving every day!
Absolutely ridiculous - I live there now. Try paying property tax on your cars, etc forever. You don't do that in FL, TX, WY and many other places. Very tired of the Hood mentality too. No a good place.
@@IAmHisBeloved5 I forget the percentage but on a 2014 Ford Escape we paid $500 last year. It goes down each year a bit but its 8.25% on the new car then your paying each year.
Far far Away thank you for responding. Wow! $500 is a lot. And y’all have to pay state taxes as well, right? I’m wondering if the cost of living is even cheaper than somewhere like TX being that you have to pay property taxes on cars and state taxes every year. What else do y’all have to pay property taxes on?
Also, they're really bad with their building codes. A lot of houses are set up to dump their septic waste into the lakes. Also Google Lake of the Ozarks electrocution deaths 🤐
I already had to block some people for talking garbage about this state. In some people's little worlds it is all a dump. But in the real world it's not. St. Louis County has many suburbs. Welston, MO is trouble. High crime. And it is time we clean up the city of St. Louis and it is time for us to clean up Welston. I am going to try to attend a next Transit Oriented Development meeting.

I was born in Columbia Missouri raised in Higginsville Missouri small town but I currently live in Warrensburg Missouri. I don't like some of the places in Missouri but I am proud to live in Missouri. Go Missouri tigers!
I lived in wentzville and I highly recommened that area. Its growing fast but its nice and close to a lot of fun things. But my parents live at lake of the ozarks and the summers are so fun.
Melanie, coming from an actual resident of Missouri. Stay clear of most places on this list. Especially Kirkwood. Around where I grew up. It is infested with gangs and high criminal activity. South saint Louis is the worst place to live. It is ranked (whole city of st. Louis) as the deadliest city in the U.S. 13th deadliest city in the world. Missouri is fine in some areas but I do have to mention the weather. We are in tornado alley and receive harsh storms from Kansas (the sate west from us). If you want a good place to live, I can tell you some places. Listen to the comments.
It depends on what you want. Got kids? Good schools are important. You make lots of money? High home values are important. I just retired in another state and bought land in SE MO, near a little town called Fredericktown. Rocks, St. Francois Mountains, clean rivers, National forests, canoeing, hunting, fishing, hiking, peace and quiet... I am building a house that will be three times the size I could afford here because it’s so much cheaper there. The scenery is fantastic. I prefer small towns. I’m tired to death of crowds. But, that’s me.
As a native Kirkwoodian (and St. Louisan) currently living in San Diego, I am happy and proud to discover that most of these cities were in the consolidated St. Louis metropolitan area.
Bro I live in the southeast part of the state it sucks down here but the crime rate isn’t near as bad as St Louis, and the price of living is pretty cheap

I have been living 50 miles west of st.louis all of my 56 years. That city is filthy and dangerous. The areas mentioned here are nice but if you travel outside the good neighborhoods...duck
Why did they not mention anything about Sedalia LOL, I love living here in central Missouri... We got the State Fair, and lots of history in the downtown too💁♂️
@Chel Marie oh! From what I know, and especially from talking to the black folks - we have some of the nicest black communities and we have more white people problems here than with the black by statistics 😂
@Chel Marie the only racism problems you could have are in the bigger cities like KC and St louis,, because that's where the democratic leaders rule. We love our black people here in the smaller towns like Sedalia
Come live in elsberry Missouri its super small but it's great. Its in the northeast part about a hour away from st.louis. one of the best schools besides the slight drug use.
FYI- there is no Sprouts in Kirkwood, it is Fresh Thyme but that is not the farmers market they are referring to. It is an outdoor venue and not a chain store. Would be nice if they did their research.
You will BASICALLY not get shot in Columbia if you are not involved with gangs, drugs, prostitution, or you don't get caught sleeping with someone else's someone. If you rounded up everyone who got shot in Columbia last year and they didn't know their shooter....all of them could sit together in a booth at Dairy Queen.
Wow seriously misleading! I’ve lived in this state all my life and can not understand where the hell these people got this information. Why did they fail to mention any other region but around St Louis? Epic fail.
I love Missouri I was born and raised here and if you are planing to move here that’s great. Just one thing you have to be prepared for is the weather it is crazy.
I live in Missouri there is this small town called Fulton that I once lived in for a bit and it is the best city probably in the entire midwest. Such a great place.
I live 25 miles south of St. Louis, both grew up in South St. Louis, Bevo area, when it used to be great, to close for me, sick and tired of seeing all the crime on the news anymore, now a police officer is arrested and charged with a felony for shooting a robbery victim who resisted arrest and wanted to fight the officer on the parking lot, so the officer shot her, and now the officer is the criminal, we thought only that shit happened in California, we are moving in 3 weeks, way north, almost to Iowa, and getting away from all the bullshit, we don't leave our 9 mm's out of site anymore.
When I was a kid there was a drive by shooting at the Columbia Chuck E. Cheese and for years I was under the impression that Columbia was just a hotbed of crime and violence, then when I was there as an adult it was very tame lol.
That's because there so many great places to live in Missouri that it's hard to narrow it down to only 10. Most of the small towns would only be attractive to certain people though. My parents lived in the middle of the Ozarks and they loved it-----but a lot of people would not enjoy that lifestyle.
