@@fernandoavila7066 cities and Counties are two different things , politically West Hollywood and The city of Los Angeles are two different cities but are all inside Los Angeles County . Again this is " politically " speaking. Overall it's the same thing
@@fernandoavila7066 Bel Air and Malibu are not unincorporated cities in Los Angeles county like West Hollywood, Beverly Hills or Santa Monica. Bel Air and Malibu are neighborhoods of Los Angeles and not cities, that’s why they don’t have a city hall!!! Ignorant!!!
I grew up in Las Vegas, which is a very gay city. The popular kids I high school where the flamboyant gay guys that love glitter and Starbucks. Then I moved to North Carolina and discovered that this wasn't exactly the norm. Lol
The Bay Area in general is an attractive destination for LGBT. I myself, moved to the North Bay 5 years ago from Tulare County California and have stayed since. I know other people wanting to leave the more conservative parts of California like Bakersfield and Fresno and move to SF and surrounding cities.
@@totallynotme6720 Southern gays tend to usually end up in South Florida, Atlanta and New Orleans. Those farther North tend to migrate to a Mid Atlantic State. An observation. I've been around.
That’s kinda similar with what happens with many lgbtq Utahns, since most cities and towns are overall pretty intense Mormon, Salt Lake City is very lgbtq and very Democrat. It’s like a little safe blue spot in an ocean of red for us, that’s why I’m planning on moving there as soon as I can. Then once I can I wanna move out of Utah entirely, preferably to a blue state where my vote will matter.
Small correction Nick. That footage about Miami is actually South Beach (which is in Miami Beach) Miami Beach and Miami are two very different places,. Most people confused the two.
Let me tell you something very hilarious when I was young I was a go-go dancer in the cage and I dated this guy he was an ironworker and I do my God was he ever built but we we went with our relationship was really platonic we were buddies that's the kind of relationship we had well anyway they open the club across the street from where I worked and it was called Club Center in Atlanta Georgia that was a transvestite act out of every vowels it was a drag Club drag queen club and I had never seen what a drag queen Club was like and he said excuse me he got up and went to the restroom I thought I said there about 10-15 minutes and I asked the waitress which was it he did she see where the Jill and went that I was suing she said oh yes honey he left was so and so and he left me there in that club was they dragged for a drag queen and I was pretty but after I got over the shock of it I was not in love with him thank God I wasn't because that would have been at the kicker because he was he did he had it all he really did except I just wasn't in love with him that was quite an eye-opener for me especially special at that young age I do believe the lights turned on so I'll be a little bit that's what I started really seeing things through a different lens and I took my rose colored glasses off
But you have to understand and realize I'm the one that kept pushing him to take me over there cuz I was curious to see what was going on and the whole time he was not going to he didn't want to go over there because he knew what it was and I didn't I have to laugh about it I did later
Another outstanding video Mr. Johnson!! I always look forward to your videos when they come out!!I must admit Mappy is one smart individual!! Without Mappy your videos would not be as entertaining as they are!! Great work Mr. Johnson and Mappy, thanks again!! MAPPY RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m born and raised in Washington DC and i can say that the gay population is just as large as it is in San Francisco. I’ve been all over the world multiple times lol. Atlanta and DC should’ve definitely been on here.
Loved the vid. I moved from FL to CO and so far so good. Ppl are very nice here and they literally doesn't give a crap about who you sleep with, which is awesome.
Straight white girl here. Would love to live in a gay city! They have the best taste, lower crime, great architecture, high funding in the arts! Just all around fun'er and clean'r environments!
I lived in SLC. People never believe me when I tell them it is super progressive. And the reason is exactly what you said. Gay people from rural Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada all move there, as well as many artists, musicians and basically anyone who doesn’t fit in where they grew up.
Very very well-done video. You made it interesting by not doing a countdown from 10 to 1 and by including all sorts of interesting related facts. I’m impressed, since I’m usually very critical of you tube videos!
The real percentage is around 10% most likely. I have seen a lot of gay people deep in the closet and their closet adventures make it seem like there are fewer gay people than there actually is. If you count those openly gay AND those who are still not open about it, it comes to around 10%. Then bisexuals can skew the statistics a bit too. It's easier to lead a straight life if you can find sexual attraction in the opposite sex even if you also find a sexual attraction to those of the same sex.
With the amount of women who have told me they are secretly bi and the amount of "straight" men who have secretly asked to give me a bj, I'm pretty sure 10-15% of the population has a medium to strong attraction to the same sex. 🤷♂️
I know that you are only including large cities, over a certain population, however, among small towns, my state takes the cake! If you Wikipedia Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.... there’s an entire paragraph about how gay it is. It’s pretty damn laid back and super fun too. I grew up going there with my family and I still visit there every year. I am straight, but the gay community there keeps everything so nice and the vibes are always so chill and positive. It’s really a nice beach and I know that people don’t normally think of Delaware when someone mentions going to the beach, however Delaware has 14 miles of beautiful, clean beaches and 7 miles of it is an undeveloped & natural protected state park area and the rest is dotted with cute little quaint beach towns with nice boardwalks and shops, restaurants and attractions. It’s super nice. And JUST north of Ocean City, MD (which kinda sucks!).
Maybe do one with towns and smaller cities included, there are many municipalities in those categories that are very high %. Provincetown, MA comes to mind.
I'd like to know exactly where these statistics came from, what questions exactly were asked and what the answer choices were, how the sampling was done, etc. Lists like this are fun, but usually the science is dubious and tends to confirm the bias of whatever group paid for it. From the gay male side of the question, back when I was better looking, my own experience seemed to indicate that the Kinsey percentages of gays and bisexuals were exceeded in reality - which would indicate that, unless there has been a drastic change over the past several decades, the statistics quoted in this video must be based on some very narrow definitions and some very dubious methodology.
Exactly.......how could Kinsey have discovered that the percentage of LGBT in the U.S. were 10% way back in 1948 and now only 4-6%??......Nah! Something’s WAY off.
@@divinagracia8595 Ha-ha. I USED to be handsome, but now... not so much. Growing old has a rather negative effect on one's looks over time, I'm afraid. But thank you, Divina! I hope that you are doing well, beautiful soul! 💚
I didn't interpret this video as a rigorous scientific report, but rather Nick's casual collection of some random "data," which is to say, I agree. PS: I'm just as handsome today as when I was 22. (No, I'm not.)
Great video! Nick, your singing is improving. (I hope my standup routine is.) Now, Karen Mappy: What is she? Metrosexual? LGBTQ-M? (M for "Mappy"?) And all along, I thought her motto was, "My strength is of the strength of ten because my heart is pure."
New Orleans is a "party" town. I've got photos taken during Mardi Gras that I took because I didn't think anybody would believe this was going on in the street and on balconies. LOL. I'm not complaining. It was a blast. I hear Mardi Gras is more "family friendly" now. That's probably why it's dying. That's a shame.
Since I am just catching up on some of your videos, I just watched this once. Since you visit some cities, you should visit Key West during Fantasy Fest (last week in October).
I’m pretty sure the study he’s using is one on out/open gay people. If he use studies that include those who have sex with the same sex but don’t identify as gay, as well as bisexuals, this video would be drastically different, and I would argue far more accurate.
Nick, Mappy, Mrs. Mappy: Love your channel. The last crowd scene in this video was in Boston, Massachusetts. You see architect H. H. Richardson's masterpiece Trinity Church in Copley Square.
Much as I enjoy watching your videos, seems like I always look forward to your singing!🤗What a frustrated singer you are!🤣. But hey, pls don’t despair because for me your singing is like the ‘icing on the cake’! New subscriber here! 🥂🇨🇦
You got that a bit wrong when it comes to the beginning of San Francisco’s lgbt community. It’s started in the 1800’s during the gold rush time; when men from all over the country came to California for the gold rush in 1848 which brought over 300,000 men into the state. Many of the men settled in San Francisco in which it became the start of SF being considered the lgbt 🏳️🌈 capital. There is a general history tour in the Castro District talking about this history of San Francisco.
Hi Nick! I was thinking it would be California? Some of the other States that were mentioned I didn't think they would be that highly in numbers. Thanks for sharing! Very interesting!
That 4.1% figure is actually the most accurate. Various different studies over the last 60 years or so have consistently come up with similar figures. That 4.1% actually represents about 10% of the male population and about 2.5% of the female population. Taking into account that females are about 52% of the population, then gay people as a whole represent about 4-5% of the population. The reason that is feels like there is a bigger percentage of 'gays" than 4.1% is that 10% of MEN ARE gay. TEN PERCENT.. That's a lot.
I'm surprised Washington DC didn't make the list. As far as the overall percentage of gay folks in the population - I'm sticking with the Kinsey figure of 10%. It would make sense that that millennials are identifying at a rate of 8.2%. As the societal climate improves with each successive generation, the numbers should be trending upward until the Kinsey 10% is reached. We'll see.
🌺Aloha everybody😊 I'm from the Hawaiian Islands where it's very safe to be mahu and in aikane-mahu relationships, marriage, and family life and guaranteed the prejudice would be very low to none at all in Hawaiian society. We are all equal and ohana 🌴🌺🌐🌺🌴💕💯
What happened in Denver transpired within the last twenty or thirty years. I started noticing in the 90s that the parade kept getting larger and larger.
I’m pretty sure that last scene of a pride parade going by a church was here in Boston. It looks like the back of Trinity Church on Clarenden St. Am I wrong?
I personally think all humans are inherently mixed with alien dna and we are all alittle gaylien. The more capable of humans tend to be less stable. So it is a weird myriad of hyper hypo and I think it is misunderstood larger spheres if influence in my opinion. I just think everyone needs to be nicer to each other and more aware. Like as long as you aren't hurting anyone who cares who you love etc.
San Francisco is welcoming to all except for anyone who makes less than 100K a year. I live just an hour North of San Francisco and despite having a progressive point of view, I actually hate San Francisco. I don't know why people are willing to spend so much money to live there when that City sucks so bad. It is impossible to park, traffic sucks although not always, the view of the bay is entirely blocked by Towers upon Towers upon Towers. San Francisco has some nice venues to visit, but I would never live there even if I could afford it. Oh yeah and if you do find parking, a lot of places require you to park in expensive parking garage at charges you like $25 a night. Not even in San Jose which is an even larger City do they have parking garages that cost so much. And one other thing I forgot to mention was that the pedestrians in San Francisco completely abused The Pedestrian right-of-way and they are constantly crossing the street when it isn't even their turn to cross and the car's turn to move. It's so fucking messed up
Hey Nick! I have a question about your PSA at the end. Is this a personal story? Another thing: All that music you had was on MTV when it first came to my neighborhood when I was in 8th grade; the first thing I saw on MTV was "Little Red Corvette" and it was at a friend's house because we didn't have that channel (I think MTV came on for those who had Cinemax).
My question is this: Were these cities ranked the gayest or the most full of LGBTQ folks? Because equating gay with trans, for instance, isn't accurate... though if the data was cities with the highest LGBTQ+ folks, then that's all inclusive. I live in Seattle's gayborhood and was glad to see it on the list.
My grandmother (born 1904) stated that the homosexuals ruined the word gay for her- it's how she felt for years- happy, lighthearted and carefree. Then after the 1960's and early 70's she couldn't say I feel gay today because people would think she was on the hunt for a female lover.
Grew up near Cleveland OH and Lakewood on the west side is known for 🏳️🌈. There's a prominent Catholic all boy high school over there that has sadly had its share of "backdoor" jokes and the like.
Grew up in Rocky River next to Lakewood. They always joked, if you found a quarter kick it over to River to pick it up! OmG I just saw Jill's comment lol and that was said in 60's and 70's And who wore white socks in Cleveland?
Recently? Man back in 2005, after Katrina in New Orleans, Fema got us a place for a few months in Atlanta and I've never seen so many gays around town in my life... More than New Orleans! Must be a lot of down low folks in atl.
Miami is not as gay as you think. Just 25 miles north is Ft. Lauderdale (Wilton Manors) which is much more gay. The entire city council of Wilton Manors is gay. We also have one of the highest numbers of same sex households in America. We have 2 gay pride parades each year. We definitely deserve to be on your top 10 list!
just saw your video...very educational and interesting...I live in Canada and i would be curious if there is a similar video here or if you would be interested in doing one...In Canada a cutoff city population would be about 500,000...so there's a few cities of note...Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver...any notes appreciated
