The 10 Most Influential Occult Books Of All Time 

Great list, however I'd make the list extend out to 11 books. The 11th being: Manly P. Hall (The Secret Teachings of All Ages)

Id like a part 2! You’re very knowledgeable of occult, pagan and witchcraft texts so I’d love to hear more about influential books that didn’t make the cut for this video.

It's interesting how some people feel almost apologetic for mention of the Bible. The Bible is extremely mysterious and full of profound, esoteric and hidden knowledge.

I would add: Franz Bardon - Initiation to Hermetics, The Practice of Magical Evocation, The True Key to the Kabbalah Gareth Knight - A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism W. E. Butler - Magic and The Magician, Apprenticed to Magic Melita Denning and Osborne Philips - Planetary Magick, Magical States of Consciousness.

I think it's awesome that you gave Scott Cunningham's book on solitary Wicca the credit it deserves. It was my one of my first introductions to the Occult and I still find myself picking it up every now and then. Blessed be!

A real lightbulb moment for me was hearing Douglas Rushkoff say, "The Bible is more Aleister Crowley than Jerry Falwell."

The books that Rudolph Steiner wrote are pretty amazing also.

I'd include Grant's Typhonian trilogies as well, he was one of the first Western magicians to self-identify as Left-Hand Path and much of the Qliphotic tradition can be traced to him.

I disagree about the Wicca books but not for the reasons you would think. You left out Austin osman spare, that man was a witch, he basically invented chaos magick and solitary practice.

I'd love to see a list of influential books in eastern esotericism. Awesome video btw. Do you think you might be able to add closed captions to your videos? I sometimes have trouble keeping up with your speaking speed and it often helps to have captions to supplement the listening (I'm a native english speaker, just a little slow sometimes.) Yes liber 777 is Crowley’s most pivotal work if you break it down as such(id argue you can’t really separate his works like so as with any magickal/mystical text series they illuminate each other’s value and meaning) it’s literally a hand book on how to verify mystical experience as such and a safety net of sorts.

IMO start with chicken qabalah and the son of chicken qabalah then advance into fortune’s and Crowley’s works on qabalah. Also a good intermediary between those would be what I call regardie’s kaballah “trilogy” the tree of life,garden of pomegranates, the middle pillar.

Personally, I would add 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Robert A. Heinlein. The title "Stranger in a Strange Land" is a direct quotation from the King James Bible (taken from Exodus 2:22). After it was rumored to be associated with Charles Manson, it was removed from school libraries... This is not just a Science Fiction Novel, it is deeply Occultist and full of Spiritual Teachings.

It's really difficult to do such a list on the Occult, as one can be torn between which are the best books on the Tarot, or Astrology or Alchemy or Astral Projection or the Human Aura or Gnosticism or Hermeticism or Neo-Platonicism or the Kabbalah or the Rosicrucians or general Occultism let alone Magick. Crowley stated that he included the most important tables from "777" in "Magick in Theory & Practice".

Also awesome comments about The Bible and Christianity....as a non religious person I still and always have acknowledged it's significance and cool nuances and stuff (the Bible). Always refreshing seeing non Christians embracing The Bible as still a valid go to for study or enrichment.

I just got done the middle pillar and now halfway through the tree of life both by Israel regardie and will be picking up the golden dawn, I have listened to the book of the law many times now and its teachings are still evading me, you convinced me to try liber 777 next but I'm certainly on my way and just found your channel and definitely appreciate you!!

I have a question, all my life I've always recommended Crowley's "Magick in theory and practice" to people getting into Magick or the occult. In the introduction he mentions his other books are very technical so he wrote it to make Magick more accessible for all. But you and others never mention it. Is there something negative about this book I don't know about? Haha. Just curious.

I started with Agrippa and had the wrong idea at time but now I started reading Sword and Serpent.I get it but I rather do LBRP.

Before I watched the video, I really wanted Scott Cunningham's book to be on there but doubted it would. It helped spark a life long interest within me, not to just belief what I was told, but to find out for myself. At the time there was no internet, or if there was, not for the vast majority of people, so if one was a normal Joe so to speak, finding this book in a book shop opened up a world of possibilities and potentially life changing ideas. The Bible needs reading for sure, even if it's just to help to understand the last 2000 years of European history. I would also include the Apocryphon of John on the list, a gnostic book, purely because of the way it turns the eve, tree and garden of Eden narrative on its head, a must read in my opinion. Of course, lists like these are always very personal and, with the exception of a group of titles that are very widespread and therefore unavoidable, others appear there based on preferences and on the personal history of each one. That said, Georgina's list is a very efficient one and includes the most important titles, IMO. I would have included, however, a more modern influence (such as that of Scott Cunningham’s) that accounts for one of the most fertile and innovative branches of modern magic: Liber Null & Psychonaut by Peter J. Carroll, responsible for sparking the modern current known as “chaos magic".

Good choice of books. I find it nice that the Bible is included. But also I would add "The Egyptian book of the dead" because ot it's influence on western occultists, both ancient and modern.

Interested in practical Magick that actually works? Then I frankly recommend any book by the Gallery of Magick. I've been using a variety of rituals/sigil Magick/Words of Power from a variety of these and they have worked the vast majority of the time. Any book that actually gives you Magick that works belongs on an essential occult book list. Foolish Fish recommends 72 Angels of Magick but many of the other books work well too - particular favourites are Sigils of Power and Transformation; Archangels of Magick; and Masterworks of Chaos Magick.

Gosh how could you not include Bardon in the list 😢? A lot of people use is system and a lot of autors put his material in their books (most of the time without giving him credit). So it is very safe to say his books, or at least Initiation into Hermetics, are VERY influencial.

Maybe consider the book of Jubilee as an addition to the book of Enoch. Jubilee reminded me of Enoch and the Torah. It was saved in migration, serendipity and is worthy of celebration. Also useful for understanding and spreading pestilence.

I agree about including the bible. I've read the bible and studied theology. There does seem to be some aspects of the bible that crosses over into the occult and vice versa. As for the Psalms, yes there are different categories of them. The type you referred to are called the imprecatory psalms and they are well known among practitioners of Voodoo and Santeria in particular, but witches are also known to use them as well for cursing and hexing. So don't piss off some old fundamentalist church lady with her hair up in a bun, y'all ("up to heaven, down to hell," SNL), cause she might HEX 'yo butt!' 🤣😂
