Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re going to be discussing the TOP 10 most POWERFUL magical Beings of the wizarding world.
‘Being’ is one of the three classifications used by the British Ministry of Magic to distinguish the different magical creatures that inhabit the wizarding world (the others being Beast and Spirit).
The term ‘Beings’, at least for the most part, refers to the HUMANOID (or at least, seemingly humanoid) lives of the wizarding world.
And when I say humanoid, I mean possessing typical ‘human’ characteristics- i.e 1 head, a standard number of appendages, 2 eyes etc. Although, I suppose you could argue that possession of these traits being innately ‘humanoid’ stems from a relatively human-centric point of view. There are also a few exceptions to this which you’ll see down below.
Anyway, with that distinction made, I do want to point out that there are still quite a few ‘humanoid’ creatures in the wizarding world beyond just conventional ‘human’ witches and wizards, which is why I think that this will make for a fun list.
This list will be ranked from least to most powerful and I’ll stick to CANON to support my rationale.
Anyway, let’s dive in.

Train up a house elf the same way a witch or wizard is and they jump up the list, i think they are already more powerful then veela.. literally clicked a finger and disarmed a witch Although they aren't seen as smart, after a few generations of training they would be come alot more powerful rather then being held back the same way goblins are Veelas lure wouldn't effect a house elf like it would a human either

The crux there is they by nature have no want to do any of that also what could a Human teach an elf about magic? An elf, an inherently magical being And I think it's suggested they don't even really use the same kind of magic per se. I've always gotten the feeling that for elves it's their will that manifests into magic, it's just that pure and simple for them

House elves are crazy OP. Sadly it makes sense that this magic is wasted on masters, whom kind of rope elves in, and the fact that “domestic” elves often struggle with freedom. Winky spiraled into a depression without a master and Dobby… well, we know what happens to at least some liberated elves. Kinda makes S.P.E.W. makes you want to spew. Good intentions notwithstanding.

I also think that grindewald despite losing to dumbledore is the strongest being period just due to his mastery of dark magic and what made him so powerful was that he was whole unlike Voldemort who split his soul.

I've always imagined magic as a kind of wavelength. The elf range is at the high end of the scale which allows them to do things other magic beings can't. The human range is slightly below the elf range and overlaps slightly (ie: humans and apparate, but not as well as elves). The goblin range is slightly below humans and overlaps slightly (goblins can work magic with metal better than humans, though humans can learn their techniques). The centaur range is the next lowest and their magic manifests as mostly nature-manipulation and heightened awareness. Trolls, giants and various magical animals are at the lowest end of the wavelength and their magic manifests primarily as innate abilities like physical durability. Maybe I'm thinking about this TOO scientifically?

Wouldn’t Elves be the strongest. Lore wise with Elves anywhere stat that they have a far deeper connection to magic and mana as a whole over any other mythical being. Wandless magic wordless magic and a deep connection to magic as a whole ? If they didn’t like being house elves I think they’d be on top Dobby disarmed belletrix without even trying

House-elves don't like being slaves. They have been indoctrinated for centuries to believe that's their rightful place. If they were truly so much more powerful than human wizards they likely wouldn't have been enslaved te begin with.

I would argue that if a house elf ever lost its desire to serve others and became power hungry, it would dwarf all witches and wizards and be nigh unstoppable.

Totally agree. Wizards were very effective at subjugating other beings, including genocidal action against giants. When discussing the propaganda monument in the Ministry of Magic, Harry has a bit of an awakening to this as he did when he realized his father had been a bit of a thug.

Ehhh. Maybe, sure, with a long enough period of time after said Elf effectively "quits" slavery, within which they dedicated themselves to nothing but every little bit of the research and training in magic that I believe they would need to be able to be "nigh unstoppable". Because, as much as I believe that they have incredible latent potential with their magic, I don't think they would be very adept at using it in ways other than they would while in servitude... The whole fact that all of the Hogwarts house elves banded together to create a sort of battalion in the Second Wizarding War sort of proves that. While they were definitely useful contributors, I think you would be very hard pressed to argue that they were some sort of unbeatable force on the battlefield. But again...maybe with training👀🤔

Not sure I buy that. Kreacher was not able to destroy the locket when asked to by Regulus so their power is not all encompassing.

I have a neat little theory for you. There are videos out there that suggest the mirror or Erised, the vail, and the pensive are all precursors to the deathly hallows. I think this is almost right. What if the mirror fits in the vail like a door. The pensive channels the spirit you are looking for, and opens the door. Since J.K likes the rule of 3s this might work. Unless the mirror and the archway together count as a single item . Than their must be a 3rd item. And I think that missing item might be inside of the deluminator. We are told dumbledore invented it but now how . It has the power to connect you with the one you disire(Ron and Hermione in deathly hallows) and it creates a mirror realm where no one can see you. I believe the deluminator has a core just like a wand and that core is part of the set. A doorway, a bowl to focus on what you desire, and a key to open the door. Together they can form the same symble for the deathly hallows. Sound possible?

Leprechauns and banshees come immediately to mind, but it is almost 5:00 AM. Edit; Sphinx, an indomitable creature. Highly dangerous as Fudge told the Muggle Prime Minister. There were Mer-people as well.

did Mr. Graves have the elder wand in fantastic beasts? I noticed he uses alot of magic even without the wand in his hand. almost like he's a jedi using the force lol. anyways Grindelwald transfigured himself that well huh? he already had the elder wand at this point, right? He mustve transfigured the look of his wand then too huh? Are there any videos covering this? I'll search it up shortly. but if not can we get one? thanks. I just watched the first fantastic beasts recently and noticed these details. I know maybe its because the writers/makers of the film didn't want to give away that Graves was really Grindelwald to quickly especially with that being one of the twists at the end. But I wondered if there's any in-universe explanations.

grindewald already had the elder wand, but he was using Mr graves wand as part of the "impersonification", the wand only shows up when he flees on the start of the second movie

@Bad Boys Boogie another argument I could make is why not use the elder wand if you have it? especially for a character like grindelwald. You really think hes just storing it away for later? hell nah hes gunna use it! also strongest wizard or not i like to think that aurors are pretty strong in general. at the end of that movie there are like between 5 and 10 aurors all trying to get him simultaneously and he just shrugs em off and gets like 3or4 with a counter too. thats elder wand power in my opinion!

The elf/goblin power difference is a little confusing. Between the two and raw power I thought elves would be on top. Is there an instance where a goblin used powerful magic?

The fact that they can enchant all their bank vaults to only be openable by the literal hand of a Goblin working for the bank is quite powerful magic. Also, while maybe not as inherently magical, Goblins are more powerful than House Elves because they have a much higher capacity to actually use their magic in an offensive way, having waged war against the humans on multiple occasions. House Elves have never engaged in a war like that.

Good presentation. Bur it raises some questions I've long had. What constitutes power? How is it attained? Can it be increased? How? By study and book learning e.g. Hermione Granger? Or is it something bestowed by accidental birth, in other words is it inherited? Is power achieved by rote memorization of charms and spells, and then practiced like any other learned skill? What role does sheer talent play?

Yeah I would like that too. Many aspects of modern science are like magic - internet, satellites, CT scans, etc. It's sad that wizards don't study mathematics and physics - the knowledge and power they give cannot be understated.

Or when a drone armed to the teeth blows up a gathering of magical folk? Hell, even a sniper with a 'deck of cards' of targets could assassinate from a mile away, not even Voldemort is faster than a bullet.

I actually think house elves are more POWERFUL than witches and wizards they just dont have any ambition to use their power against them. Dobby easily knocked Lucius malfoy to the ground and i think he could just as easily kill him if he really wanted to. house elves weaknes may be their domestication, but human weaknes is greed and thinking we are superior

I think it depends on the wizard, I don't think Dobby stands a chance against the likes of Voldemort or Dumbledore. Malfoy is a mediocre wizard at best, almost got spanked by a bunch of kids in The Order of The Phoenix If it wasn't for Bellatrix

@@j.asmrgaming1228 well If the greatest house elf was more powerful than the greatest wizard, then I fail to understand how elves are enslaved Perosnally I think elves might have more raw magical power than wizards, well one of the main theories of human wizards origin is that a human mixed with elves, so that means they're pretty damn strong, but generally I think what favors wizard is their human intelligence. After all intelligence is as or even more important than magic skill. There's a reason why muggles seem more advanced than wizards even tho they lack magic

I think veelas should've lower on the list or not at all because they basically a subspecies of wizards. Personally my top 5 would've been (and you can disagree with me here) 1. Wizard/witches 2. House elf 3. Goblins 4. Vampires 5. Giants

I know the list only refers to magical beings, but if you do a list of beings in general, the Muggles are taking the top spot. Think about it, there’s no spell in the whole wizarding world that can whipe out cities & countries from the face of the planet, and yet Muggles have the nuclear bomb. Grindelwald himself saw them as a huge threat. They may be powerless, but their inventions can be quite destructive

I'd think that centaurs are 2 or 1. They are vastly smarter faster and stronger. Even with their weaker affinity for magic there smartness and skill in prophecy would allow them to win all battles if they chose. Fortunately centaurs as a whole tend to ignore and stay out of human - wizard interactions or we'd be screwed.

It’s seem Hags, goblins, fairies, Elves,trolls, and Giants also, humanoid beings are different species of humans evolved from giants, angels and humans and the gods too. I have a suspicion, that wizards and other magical beings are descendants of angels, pretty much the source of their magic through their blood. But just with mythology theory!!! Basically, when young wizards are being forced to suppress their magic because of abuse, they develop an Obscurus, which is a giant smoke monster that explodes around the area.

Humanoids are beings that have a silovate similar to humans with the key features being bipedal, typically 4 limbs, one torso, and generally one head. The number of eyes or anything have nothing to nothing to do with being a humanoid. This means that centaurs are not humanoids
