@Baramisio They are an at risk breed, when a friend and I walk our’s we do get a lot of looks and questions. They are a comical, affectionate breed with an unusual look. And totally terrier...lol
I did not realize that all of my favorite dogs came from Scotland. I must never go the home of my ancestors because i would come home with a huge pack of dogs!
My family has had Scotties for nearly 50 years, I am on my own 3rd, a wheaten named Phoebe. Very special, very unique animals - difficult to train because they are strong-willed, but intensely loyal and protective of the immediate family. They are not overly demonstrative of love, but show it in subtle ways that let you know of their devotion and affection. My life is immeasurably better for all of them. BTW - As much as they bark, they will silently stalk and kill squirrels, rabbits, mice etc - we had one female Scottie who would play with the mouse (toss it up in the air) AFTER she killed it. Weird & wonderful dogs.
Collies, like most purebreds, have had arrogant people breed the individuality and life out of them for the sake of the show ring. And notice the emphasis here on "cuddly." People don't value working dogs, so they're all bred for docility.
How bout the scottish cat? Mine is like a job isn't cute but is extremely intelligent and plays with slurpee straws and hides plastic eggs. He'll take shifts working our perimeter if I'm sleeping on the sidewalk. He makes people laugh and gets attention then diverts it so no one stares at me sleeping in public. I let him loose in the morning so he can prowl wherever he wants and I meet him again at night to eat and sleep. Hokus pohkis is his name but I call him human torch or cheese fry or Dave or poke. He knows how to help me with my ptsd. Poke is stolen property right now but I most certainly will be getting him back from the woman who stole him and sold him.
Kerry blue terrier Glen of imaal terrier Irish terrier Kerry beagles Irish red setters Irish red and white setters Irish wolfhound Soft coated wheaten terrier Irish water spaniel
They include the bloodhound which is a European breed and leave out the Westie, Dandie Dinmont and Skye Terrier. The mind boggles as to who is making these lists. Most likely cat lovers.
My best is Scottie. Last year I lost my Scottie boy. He was a true Scottie- independent, self confident with brave and tender heart. My choice is a Scottish terrier but in fact I am for all breeds❤❤❤❤
I love the deerhound too but the only thing that is stopping me from getting one is their relatively short lifespan. They are the sweetest dogs that you could ever meet. My cousin has 3 and I walk my border collies with him and his dogs any chance I get.
I can definitely say, as someone who is currently owned by a Scottish Terrier, that the description is spot on. Rufus acts like most things are beneath him. He's such a little curmudgeon. I had a little girl, Maisie, who passed away last year, and I will never be the same. They're both rescues, and they absolutely stole my heart. 🤗💕
@@poltallach LOL. So true. He'll be acting completely ridiculous one second and then sit down, head thrown back, snoot in the air like, "That wasn't me. I'm far too dignified for such nonsense." 😂
The Scottish Deerhound does not exist it is a strain of Irish Wolfhound before the recreation. The recreation is an out cross made from crosses and some breeds that were made from the original wolfhounds. Shame Scotland does not go into its history before Mary Queen of Scotts and did the national rebranding. The entire Scottish Celtic Identity is from Ireland and Irish Celts.
@@RobertFarrelly-w5u The Irish doing what the Irish do best - manufacturing history. The Irish Wolfhound is as Irish as Morris Dancing, mate. Best just to admit it rather than embarrassing yourself.
I had a Cairn Terrier. So independent the cat wanted his attention and the Cairn would just ignore. Plus if I called him to the couch in the evening , he would look at me then leave for the bedroom. Not a lap dog at all. Rode on my motorcycle more than my ex.
Scottish Deerhound and Bloodhound are two of my faves and of course the Golden Retrievers like the one of my pic...grew up with them, they're soooo adorable ❤️🐶🐾
This was so interesting. I learned that the Scots like their dogs to be energetic and busy. I have always loved the Cairn. I fell in love with Toto when I was a kid. lol However, I am not sure the dogs personality would be for me. Mainly because I don't know if I could keep it fenced in. And once loose on our property, I don't know if I could get it back, until it was ready to come back. There are all kinds of critters to hunt here. I am thinking they would not get along with cats either.
@@stevenanthony9332Why do you keep asking everyone how they are today? Would you not leave a comment about a dog seeing as though that is what this video is about? Anyway, how are you today?
We are very good friends with a pack of three Scotties. They are amazing little CHARACTERS!! So endearing and fun, very intelligent, and dogs of strong opinion. ❤️❤️❤️ Very regal love bugs!
I was just wondering if the Bloodhound originated from Belgium or Scotland, because in your previous video “Top Ten Belgian Dogs” you said the Bloodhound is Belgian and in this video you said it is Scottish.
I love collies and have both varieties - 3 smooth and 1 rough (here in the States they are 1 breed/2 varieties. I believe in the UK they are 2 separate breeds). They are intelligent, sweet, kind souls that love to be active and doing things with you as well as just relax with you!
We had a Cairn Terrier named Scout. When she passed away, we were devastated. The only choice for us was, of course, two more Cairn Terriers:Torrie and Roux! We are never bored as they have the qualities mentioned here plus incredibly stubborn.
Had a rough collie as a kid and in 1994 along with my first home, I adopted a rough collie and since 1999 I've had two of this beautiful and fun breed of dogs.
My family has had two rough collies and one cairn terrier. I currently have a rescued rough collie and she is the BEST dog I have ever had. Our cairn terrier was sweet, lovable and loved to run. All are great dogs.
If you ever wondered why the Shetland Collie is small.....well, so are Shetland Sheep (not to mention the ponies) 🙂 Must admit, I never knew the Bloodhound was Scottish 🤔 Not Scottish as such but the well known Yorkshire Terrier was bred from various Scots breeds brought down by Scottish mill workers and was known as Scottish Broken Haired Terrier. Interesting vid though. Thanks for posting.
Did not know golden retriever was originally Scottish. That breed was surprise to be found on this list because that is a popular breed here in the the U.S. But my favorite breed have to be the Carin tarriers because of my chewy. He was an Carin terrier mix and he was my happy golden nugget. If I ever get a dog again I would love to have an Carin Tarriers, Scottie or a pit bull tarriors.
The bloodhound isn't a Scottish breed. They are bred down from the St Hubert's dog, which was a monastery in France or Belgium. Bloodhounds were brought to the UK in 1066 when William the Conqueror brought them. If anything, they are an English breed, as it was there that the breed developed the most. And I say this as someone that thinks that the breed was perfected in the US, lol. The Scottish connection is that they were used on the border between England and Scotland to track stolen cattle.
People who say they want a border collie as they are an active family. What is active? Driving your kids to soccer and music lessons is not active as they can’t join in. I tell people to imagine their day then carve out a minimum of 3 hours of undivided attention for the dog. If you can do that then get a border collie. If not then do yourself a favour and get another breed.
If you're ever thinking of getting a terrier then please consider the border terrier. They are just outstanding pets in every way and you can consider your home rodent free.
Easy choice for me, the Swamp Collie, also know as a Golden Retriever. We have a new 4 month old female pup. House broke in 2 days. Three accidents in the house, our own fault. She ask to go out and we did not let her.
I ❤️ my Sheltie! She is so smart that she often does things I tell her to do for which I haven’t even trained her! She was a rescue dog, but is a purebred. I really got lucky with her!
The origin of the blodhound isn't, but the end result is from Scottland/ England. Saint Hubertus dog is the Bloodhounds origin, from the France/ Belgium area. Related to Bloodhound, is other european scent hounds, and some of the Coonhound breeds.
