I really don’t get why so many people put crap on prado’s, they’re a very capable vehicle off road - like any for that matter - in the right hands and when you know your limits and capabilities. I have a few mates with prado’s and they go everywhere 👍👍
Oh mannnn..... I loveeee your Prado Harry..... I couldn't get enough of seeing it at the Perth 4wd Show..... so much so, that I had to bring the wife and son to see it on the Sunday too!!! LOL :) Cheers, Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
Thank everyday for what you have love all the vids the new beast is wicked get some cooking going lol. Buried my mum this week from brain cancer been big week watching your videos calms me to know there are still good people out there just living life.
The Prado looks great - thanks for sharing the build, I found it very interesting and informative. Enjoy what you have created - everyone deserves a little luxury on their way to work! :D. Congrats!
The toyo RT's are the only tyre I'll ever buy. They're the perfect blend between highway and off road without compromise that you would even notice. Have been in mud, snow, sand, gravel etc everything and they're flawless. Best part is they're quiet as anything too.. I'm at about 30,000kms on my set and still heaps of tread left.
I’ve done 135K on Hankook DynaPro ATs and still have 20K left at least! Great tyre, run them on a 200 series towing 3.5T boat. 95% bitumen work. Can’t rave enough about them.
Now that is how to set up a Prado! I own a 2008 120 series TD and couldn't have picked a better rig. The only standard issue was the weight of the spare on the rear door. The vibrations over the years flattened the seal and she leaked. Nothing a new seal didn't fix though but I put a Kamar rear bar with spare and Jerry holders for water to take the weight off the door. As far as Tyre's go, I would suggest the Mickey Thompson ATZ's. An aggressive All terrain that are slightly noisier than most all terrains after they wear a bit but are nothing compared to Muddies on the Black top and they wear and perform well and in my experience don't develop micro cracks in the rubber over time. Well worth the money! Love the build Harry! I do like the Awning, no poles, awesome. I am looking into it. Cheers Mate
Maxxis RAZR is a great tyre and a little noisy at times, but the puncture resistance is exceptional and when it comes to traction in mud it wont let you down.
Can you share why you used the EGON DC Hub and not the RedVision TVMS? Considering you have a Redvision display and Redvision Inverter. (EDIT) - I just got to that point in the VID - you just like switches.
A pleasure to watch mate. I can see those new Prado's going out the door now. Should have made a deal. Maybe Toyota can come back at you with free service and extended warranty.
Love the new rig mate, not a fan of wagons but you have a bloody good setup, you are a genuine down to earth bloke and mate... don't sell yourself short, loads of people will want to see more of this style from you, sure, you're no Rhonda and Torben or Sam Eyles, but I am telling you, people will love what ever you produce, because of the way you can talk without over editing and don't over think things, dramatize or try to sell us anything. Keep up the good work Harry, and Fred and hope your spinal injury is healing well. So sorry, had to edit, I mix you up with Alex from Intents for some reason. OOPS.
Great video mate, another well documented clip. Just one thing though, if you want to keep this vehicle running good as planned, you’ve got to stop whacking it back into drive from reverse while you’re still going backwards, ( when you backed back in the suspension place car park ) good way to kill that auto mate 😄😉👍 Thanks for sharing another great clip. .....
Mate, love it! Looks brilliant and very glad you decided to share the build, though I admit I'm bias as a modified Prado owner myself. Great work, cheers.
... yo Harold, those three lettered brands are triple word scores for most YT’bers. Cash in hand is better than a bush, or however the saying goes... Not my choice of car or kit personally, but nonetheless, we are tuned in, notified and have even smashed the end of a bell just for you. 🕺🏼
I think you made the right call with MT tyres, I run a Pirelli MT 285/70R17 on my 120 Prado with a +6 offset. I find the extra road noise reassuring because it reminds you that you have some decent rubber under you.
I like the three letter brand. It's a bit pricey but if something breaks you can stop at the next one and get it fixed. And they sell quality stuff mostly from Australian engineers.
Had my Nittos on for 25k and zero noise, 'upgraded' to the Maxxis and could hear them on the first day, I'm hoping they're not all hype as I loved my Nittos.
Can't agree more that cross over between comfort and off road ability is the hardest choice there just isn't the perfect vehicle out there. If I had the money I'd probably buy the same prado and chop it extra cab 6.5 ft tray coil suspension diff locks starting to sound right.
That’s a great question about M/t and all terrains if you want to use muddies use them in the mud the problem is if you have to travel along way to use them in the mud on the bitumen they get compromised they start to heal and toe make then noisy and Hard this is not a good thing with all terrains you will go everywhere muddies can go with a Winch and a set of Max tracks
You don’t need to compete with others. There is a segment that wants to see cooking and 4x4 builds, so you won’t be competing with Ronny or ASPW. There are plenty of views to go around mate. We are insatiable
Looks good. Be nice if the dc hub had midi and mega fuses not just blades. I always see the bm30 as a waste on setups with lithium. It’s such a slow charge rate you don’t get one of the best benefits of lithium being the quick recharge.
Considering that you had done a 100k on mud your tyres looked clean. Im running them having done 15k with them im worried about their wear, but happy with their grip and sound
Prado is an awesome all rounder 4WD dose everything good. Is it a Land Cruiser? i think it's more then worthy of the badge. It is GOAT of every mid size wagon and crossover 4WD
That's a beautiful build. Regarding RT vs MT: Its about compromise. RT is a slightly better AT but gives you less assurance than an MT offroad. The MT is louder on the road, and can also eat a bit more fuel, but it is far more predictable offroad where it truly matters.
and to answer your question Harry .. looks like you've build the truck to meet your exact needs , Mud tyres are always a compromise , but when you need them .. you need them
Love to hear your long term report of the adjustable shocks as I’m considering adjustables for my 4wd but unsure of brand. Had been running Dobinsons coils for years without any issues but unsure about their shocks...
Love the set up Harry, have a 2018 GXL myself. have the Kaon water tank (and a lot of other products, they are superb - the four runner table is amazing people comment on it all the time, not cheap but it gets used nearly every day) and looking at plumbing it into the back . how did they get the water hose into the back (im assumign the pump in in the back not underneath) cheers
This build is insane harry! How hard has it been to scale down your cooking equipment? You had a lot of stuff packed into brick. Are you still towing the army trailer for big camps?
Love the vehicle brilliant setups, personally wouldn’t have picked the 285s, but rather stuck with 265’s in a 265/70/17 and good all terrain BFG ko2 or TOYO OPEN COUNTRY at2
Can recommend the yoko muddies (for next time), quietest mud tyre i have ever run. I'm also keen to hear how the RAZRs go wear wise as I'm on the fence on those or the yokos next time based mostly on price vs noise and wear.
Question to electrician ( the one in the movie ) I use bluetti ac200 for all those things you use in overland vehicle plus delonghi magnifica cofffe machine :) lol so why go for all that triple expenses and build such battery management while you have device which you can take on and off for other projects if need. My bluettii have solar power connected plus charging from main battery and it run all the lights, devices etc and if I need is matter only unplug connections and take it with me where is no power and still I can run 220-240v devices if I need. Only what stay in car is fuse box and connectors for solar and from fuse box to bluettii.
you do a lot off road driving so mud's will do the job it is always a tiwst between AT/ M AT yes you get more miles out of them on sand you wil be ok i think you have to look at it ok how much i drive off road and how much on the black top Muds make more noise that is the down side in your case you do alot off road you make the right choice,, you could do it with AT love the build top job 😎
