Dirk at number 9, really? Do people forget he's in the top 7 for all time points in the NBA? And John Stockton at 8 is stupid too... He has the most assists and steals in the NBA and is a top 25 all time NBA player and top 5 without a ring... All of your top 5 white players (beside bird) played in the early 50s 60s and 70s back when most of the NBA was white anyways...

I think Jerry West is one of the finest minds in the history of basketball. Not only did he know how to play his era (he knew he had to get to the free throw line rather than just shoot and his stats show an awful lot of free throws because of this) but he also put together the Shaq-Kobe Lakers team that three-peated.

Bill Walton had bad feet his entire career but when he was reasonably healthy, he was one of the best centers to ever play. In the 1977 playoffs he absolutely ran Kareem out of the building four games in a row, then led a Portland team full of nobodies to an NBA title over an absolutely loaded Philadelphia 76ers team. Walton was probably the best high post center ever because of his passing abilities, he made journeymen like Bob Gross look like all stars.

Horrible list. I mean, Steve Nash, Dirk and John stockton at 11,9 and 8? They should easily be higher than that especially stockton. Cousy, dolph schayes and george milan ahead of stockton really? Stockton is easily the second best point guard ever behind magic. He has the most career assist and steals too.

I think Stockton should have been higher than #8, but I might be biased because he is my favorite player. He was a workhorse that showed up to play his best, he trained hard, had clutch, could score when needed, great court vision, great with steals, and kept out of the limelight to focus on family and basketball.

As great as Mark Price and Manu Ginobili have been, there were former MVPs not on this list who would have been better choices: centers Bill Walton and Dave Cowens. Dave DeBusschere and Jerry Lucas, like Walton and Cowens, were listed among the Top 50 Players of All Time during the NBA's 50th anniversary in 1996 and they could have been selected too. Still, it is a great list, and kudos are due for remembering legends of the past such as Mikan, Pettit, Schayes and Cousy. Most of all, thanks for putting John Havlicek at #3. He is probably one of the most underrated all-time greats in NBA history. Those of us old enough to remember seeing him play (even at the tailend of his career) will always put him among the best players of all time, and he could be placed at either the small forward or off guard position.

Left off The Kangaroo Kid, Billy Cunningham. Won a championship as a player and as a coach. Four time first team All star, and a lot more. One of my all time favorites.

I give strong honorable mentions to Billy Cunningham, Dan Issel (easily Top 10 if ABA stats were included), Louie Dampier (same case as Issel regarding ABA stats), Gail Goodrich, and Chris Mullin (all five in the Hall of Fame as well) as well as Tom Chambers, Bill Laimbeer, Jack Sikma, and Pau Gasol (also greatest Spanish player in NBA history). Best white player today is definitely Kevin Love with Domantas Sabonis not far behind.
