I just upgraded to the 16" from the 2019 15" MBP. I prefer the butterfly keyboard. I like the short travel and sound that it has.

Can you do a test editing 4K 10bit and 6k 10bit footage on adobe premiere pro and scrub through the timeline with LUTS on the clips to see if it can handle the footage in the timeline as well as play the footage in the timeline to see if it can play back without any lag at the best play back settings please?

I had the last 17” MacBook Pro and returned it for the 15”. Just a bit too heavy and too bulky. The 16”, which is being introduced years later and probably a good deal lighter, might be a great compromise.

It's almost the same footprint than the 15", as a matter of fact 15" is discontinued now.

The new 16” is actually slightly smaller and lighter then the older 15” retina MacBook pros (from 2012-2015) so while it is bigger and heavier then the previous gen of 15” (2016-2019) I don’t think the differences would be too noticeable.

SO GOOD! Thanks man. Would love to see Premiere Pro tests, 4k footage Sony/GH5 dropped on a timeline and see how it scrubs. 4k multi cam sequence in Premiere? Then export times with Media Encoder using GPU Acceleration (Metal). This is on my 2020 purchase list!

I’m still rocking the 2013 15” MBP. The biggest slowdown for me is waiting for clips to render after I’ve added an effect, or manipulated it in some way. Add effect, wait for it, adjust it, wait for it, adjust it again......🤦🏻‍♂️ I’d love to watch you edit a short timeline to see just how fast you can work with this machine. Mine really isn’t terrible, but I can’t imagine how fast the 16” is for cutting, color grading, etc.

Hi Jonathan. The most impressive thing is that even the base graphics card is more powerful than the vega 20 as I heard. It’s also great that is shipping with 512 gigs of storage standard. It just became a great value to price machine? 😱 I love the videos. Keep up the fantastic work! 💪 A fan from Hungary.

Re the current stats of Apple audio... Yesterday I used an iPhone 11 Pro Max to record image, using Schoeps mikes and a Sound Devices MixPre recorder to record sound. I wanted the 11 Pro Max audio recording for backup and sync reasons, but I’ve got to say that I was impressed. It’s susceptible to strong wind gusts, but fundamentally pretty good. If someone said, “Can I use this to record audio for RU-vid?”, my response would be “Yes, just keep the phone out of strong gusts”. The recorded audio is much better than I would have expected.

for the in depth review it’d be nice to see some Houdini, C4D and Blender exports, some live render performance in After Effects, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.. And performance in Illustrator with huge files. I feel like the macbook “pro” doesn’t look at video editors as the only pros in the world and it’d be pretty refreshing to see some other fields interested in high grade software get a little hint at what they’re buying into.

@New-Vegas-Courier I have a 2015 Pro and I had to do some work on my sisters 2017 Air. I got the thing thinking 'This should be at least up to par with the speed of my Pro...' That thing is DAMN slow in such an UNHOLY way! We both paid the same amount for our laptops too, hers refurbished from Apple and mine second hand on eBay. So happy I've never purchased an Air, they don't represent the quality of Apple's products in the slightest.

The mic is ok. I've got the 16inch and it's ok. The speakers are deeper but the bass is alright, in no way does it feel like there is a sub in there but the sound has a better depth to it than my 2019 15inch mbp. I am pleased though with this new machine and happy to have made the switch to the 16inch.

Did they fix the display cable though, I have the 15"MBP and the display have black lines on the bottom of the screen because of too much heat. I also did some research and it seems that many people with the same model have many problems with their MBP, most people say that it's because of the flex cables, they get torn easily.

I just purchased the macbook pro 16" and got the base model that was available at the store because I was inpatient. I use my macbook pro for professional graphic design. usually spend alot of my time having photoshop illustrator and indesign open, sometimes all at once. Do you think I should have purchased any of the upgrades in gpu or ram, etc. If anything I will head back and return this one and wait for the order

I am currently using a 2016 MBP. I see from your tests that the new MBP tests out significantly better than the 2016. I almost put in an order for the new MBP, but it appears that the newest Gen 10 processor is not in this machine. Does it make sense to wait until the next refresh, maybe mid 2020 where the new processor is likely to appear? I do use Final Cut Pro as an amateur, and could use more power, but hate to buy technology which is already somewhat old. Any thoughts?? I'm thinking this refresh was mainly to get rid of these terrible keyboards and the real refresh will come next year sometime.

My last MBP was a mid 2012 build now looking at the 16" I am loading the unit, but I am torn between 32 GB or 64 GB I edit 4K for RU-vid... But thoughts are what will y needs be in two years from now? If I spending X then why spoil the ship for the sake of a little more. Then I m covered, but many say ill never need it, Can you cover some of these points in your eagerly awaited review Jonathan Cheers Paul

Render times are one thing but FAR more important is how smooth timelines play back when you are trying to edit. Please do some frame rate tests in FCPX and if possible Resolve/Premiere, Media Composer too if you are feeling really adventurous.
