Privatizing education would LOWER not raise teacher pay. Most private schools pay less than public schools. These are highly educated people paid like peasants.

While we need Theology, Art History, Anthropology Majors etc, we don't need them going in 40-100k+ in debt for it. At my in state university you can get a bachelors in Engineering for 40k or art history for 40k. thats a problem.

Thank you for saying that we need those degrees because we do need them the problem is that they cost so much there should be alternative ways to graduate with those degrees get the training and pay very little..... A good example would be theology.... Why not train inside a church and have the highest quality of education inside the church.... Music and fine arts.... Yes you can learn in the streets but there is no way you will learn counter-point, part writing, and music theory in the streets but those schools should be separated from university so that it is less expensive

Yeah what if they allowed the major to cost equivalent to what you would make. For example charge a lot less for credit hours on something that underperforms or require classes to be taken in community college before allowing them to transfer.

Graduating with my bachelors of finance in corporate & investments this semester. Thank God I’m done and zero debt. Took me years to get it done, taking 1-2 classes a semester. I don’t care what anyone says, a college degree is still worth it. I’m getting lots of job offers right out of college including one which I accepted with Amazon for an operations manager. They wouldn’t have even considered me except do the lowly warehouse worker position if I didn’t have college under my belt.

Psychology BSc. in my case led to a lucrative career. However, I was 27 at the time I attended college. I was hired for a job in the field the day I graduated. For those not sure about college - take some time off, discover yourself, and if you do decide to go: *Have a plan, start to finish.*

this is why there needs to be policing of college and universities and their degree programs...when all said and done the student will still owe money for their student loans...or start suing the colleges and universities for Fraud!....Why is there even a degree program for performing arts? especially if you are a traveling musician when in fact you properly already made sacrifices as it is not a typical 9-5 job. Maybe some of these people who hold degrees in the arts can market themselves by starting their own business!

In general, I don't feel bad for public school teachers, especially here in NY. They have pretty good salaries, have excellent benefits and pensions, work 8-1/2 to 9 months (if look at all the holidays, breaks and extended weekends) per year, and can retire mid-50s. If public school teachers want even higher salaries, have them push to get rid so many administrators! Administrative jobs in the last 30 years have exploded; they keep adding new positions/committees. Instead of increasing the number of teachers or the teacher's pay, they add a new school district coordinator of elementary transportation or parent-teacher resource specialist or secondary school media and marketing expert or athletics program fundraiser supervisor. Its insane!
@Jedi12789
@Jedi12789 5 месяцев назад
You gotta remember a few things: 1) NY is not a representation of the rest of the country. Not all states pay that well. 2) most great teachers never move into admin. Normally it’s the worst or those who have political connections.
@anonymous01792
@anonymous01792 4 месяца назад
You also need to remember WHY teachers insist on more pay. As a former elementary education teacher who left because of the low pay. Teachers who stick around a long time are in a couple of situations (assuming they don’t go admin) they have a spouse who is also a teacher even doubling a first year teachers salary in most states is pretty good! They have a spouse with a high paying job so they are truly in it for the teaching and can work with the school districts/students that they are passionate about. Or they got in early (20-30 years ago) so NOW their salary is really comfy. Let me tell you from experience $36,000 is barely enough to survive on your own god forbid you have extra expenses AT ALL. All most teachers want is to not have to work 2 jobs. That’s it.

Salary is not a good way to judge the ROI of becoming a teacher or other public employee. Teachers retire with a fantastic pension. As do public employees. I make over 120k working for the state but the net present value of my pension increases by about 30k per year, meaning my total comp is around 150k. And I work 40 hours per week. With no chance of layoff. If I went back to the private sector I would be working 50-60 hours per week, my total comp would be quite less, and my job security would be lower. The difference is work culture here sucks and it's far less professional or glamorous. But salary does not tell the whole story. My wife is a teacher and the net present value of her pension is worth as much as our house. So she doesn't just make 80k/year working 9 months. Her total comp is way more. Turnover rate in teaching would be lower if they understood this but many do not.

As a music 🎵 teacher you work for the state and after school you open your night studio and make money.... Music school is designed to be educational, even the most virtuoso will always have a job at a university teaching music. Therefore, the real "meat" in music comes from teaching children and some adults that are ready to learn.

I make 31 an hour as a school based therapist in California. Yes it's my choice to not do private practice and make more $, but I'm very passionate about school based work. Agency therapists NEED to make more money. Working professionals with masters degrees shouldn't be making only 11$ more than our high school clients. That's SO OFF KILTER. My fiance and I want a house so badly, so we're planning to leave California in 2 years and moving to Missouri. We'll be able to have our home paid off by 40! Can't wait!💙

It is worth pointing out that 18/19/20 year old's cannot fully comprehend long-term decision-making, like taking out huge sums of money on student loans. This is especially true without life experience to *know* what they want with their lives. After graduating high school there should be mandatory waiting periods before college IMHO. At least a gap year or two.

My personal experience is an Engineering degree does not pay well compared to the stiff curriculum you must pass in college. An entry-level salary might be OK but it levels off quickly at mid-level, and you don't get higher unless you jump to high-level management or VP status.

I would say that all the arts are designed so that those in that discipline will become teachers. Take for example martial arts.... Who is going to pay to watch you fight only in street fighter or mortal kombat. Yet, I know many martial arts schools that make money teaching martial arts.... It is the same for music. The probabilities of becoming a rockstar are close to nil. Even the worlds famous virtuoso musicians are teachers themselves.... So if you are passionate for music 🎵 my suggestion would be become a teacher you get to interact, and influence other humans, you get to see your work of art through them and you create culture in your community as your students perform.... Our cities need culture it is not dying but we need more people appreciating the arts
