It shows the darker sides of history and how some of the most noble of men can do some really disturbing things by our modern standards. It also shows how this was viewed as normal once, and how far society has evolved in order to realize it was disgusting and makes me wonder what norms we have today will soon be considered as weird as well. But again, it's all based on taste. I'm just giving my view on this.

House Velaryon, Targeryen, Hightower, Celtigar and Darklyn have silver hair. House Velaryon and Targeryen have both silver hair and purple eyes. So Alyn and Addam having silver hair is not new as even in GOT one of my favorite character from the books but was cut in the show Aerion Waters Lord of the Seas and King of Pirates was a silver haired purple eyed velaryon bastard who Cersie had a crush on if you can call it that and makes him Master of Ships for King Tommen also compares his looks to that of Rhaegar so....

To put it simple, there is no confirmation that Targaryen blood is required to claim a dragon. We only know, that people with at least one Targaryen parent can do it reliably and in relatively safe manner. People without Targaryen blood rarely attempt to tame dragon or even find themselves in opportunity to do so. During the call for dragonseeds, its the first time we see commoners try it and see 2 dragonriders without signs of Targaryen blood to succeed - Nettles and Addam of Hull. Addam claims Seasmoke. His previous rider was also son of Corlys, so there might be some affection from Seasmoke. Nettles claims Sheepstealer, by bringing him sheep every morning and building affection. Last one who consider himself dragonseed and has no signs of Targaryen ancestry is Alyn of Hull and only because he survived meeting Grey Ghost. But realisticaly he is full of shit and was simply saved by his brother and Seasmoke.

In the book it is speculated that they are Laenors children's not Corlys and that is why they can ride the dragons but it's never confirmed.

A couple of theories: Marida of Hull (the boys' mother) is a dragonseed, or Corlys had some 'dragonrider' Targaryens in his blood too. The Velaryons came from Valyria, and they have intermarried with the Targaryens (one of the more popular Velaryon pre-Corlys was Valaena Velaryon, who is the mother of Aegon the Conqueror, Visenya and Rhaenys), so it's not a big surprise if a Velaryon has dragon blood in them. Or if it follows the book, it's Laenor who fathered Addam and Alynn.

They wanted to make it clear to anyone with half a brain cell that Ryenara kids were definitely illegitimate so they made Ryenara fist husband and his family black. Unlike the book where it's far more ambiguous as Ryenara wasn't an idiot and picked a lover who kids could believably pass as her husbands. Making it near imposable to know for sure is any or all the kids where legitimate or illegitimate.

I just don't understand, what's the problem with these characters being black? As someone else mentioned, they wanted to make it clear that Rhaenyra's children are bastards. They also wanted to avoid too many characters with similar looks and potential confusion. I think it was a good choice, it makes the story accessible to more people. Anyone who complains about it seems to have a problem with black people. The objection that this is a European - medieval setting and that there were only a few black people in Europe at that time is getting old, after all we are talking about a fantasy world with zombies, magical swords, witches, prophecies and dragons ridden by people with a fetish for Habsburg-style incest.

I don't know why people are tripping over the race. Although im pissed caused Alyn had silver im not pissed for the race swapping as it helps the bastardy plot. But yall have to understand. Houses Targaryen Velaryon Celtigar Hightower and Darklyn had silver hair. Of these House Velaryon and the Targs had purple eyes. Only House Belaerys and Targ remained as dragon lords but members of the former died 4 were murdered and their dragons killed in Lys and the last,a one Lord Aerion died reclaiming Old Valyria. Thus after the bloody century Aegon took Westoros.

Corlys definitely has some Targaryen blood with how much they intermarried with the Targaryens. Also another possibility is Marilda of Hull herself could be a descendent of a Targaryen. Driftmark is just a stone throw away from Dragonstone and it's not out of the realm of possibility that one of her parents or grandparents or even great grandparents were dragonseed bastard.

I was bummed that the beautiful dark skinned Alayaya from the Song of Ice and Fire was left out of the tv series. Keep white white and black black is all I'm asking. And don't turn heterosexuals into gay characters when they were not that in the books.
